I'm from Pasadena and it's full of wild parrots here , there are red crowned parrots , yellow crowned parrots, mitred conures and cherry headed conures . In spring they are all over , their flocks contain hundreds sometimes thousands
Aww...he even took to your son so fast! Used to seeing parrots look terrified when handled by kids but your boy has all the confidence he needed to stay content!
Very cool. Like I mentioned in the comments Senor Verde does great except at dawn & dusk or if we have a lot of company over. Then he is in his garage cage for awhile - he doesn't mind at all. He has a great personality & loves to be petted. Right now he is destroying one of his many toys... I buy them on Amazon since they don't last long. My wife doesn't really like him and when I told her he might live for 40 years she just gave me that look ;)
Yup, told the same thing to my wife. Fast forward 25 years, he did pass at 50+ yrs old. A royal pian but he was very happy. Senior Verde looks very happy and has his his flock.
Thank you for your wonderful video! I also have the same parrot. My family has had him for 3 generations now, his name is Pico. lol. Much Love from HAWAII!
I also have a Mexican red headed amazon. She loves watching the video of Your bird. I live in the Antelope Valley. I think they would enjoy having a play date.
I knew I recognized those houses. I live in the A.V as well and have an eclectus and a conure. A Mexican redhead may be in my near future. A parrot playdate would be awesome!
From what I researched they slowly moved up from South America where they are known as the Green Cheek Amazon Parrot. They have been in Mexico for quite some time hence the new name - Red Headed Mexican Parrot. They came to Southern California in noticeable numbers at least in my area about ten years ago. The weather is perfect for them and they have very little if no predators here. They ain't going back ;) They are an amazing sight and sound for sure.
Omgg I had one of these parrots and her name was Rico. I miss her so much. Got her when I was 6 and had her until I was 21 and she was 15 when I got her. Unfortunately, she got out of the front door that was accidentally left open by my neighbor and I never saw her again. I despised my neighbor for the remaining time living there. he did all of the same sounds and dances as this one. If I didn't know any better I would think this was her. I looked up this video to show my fiance what kind of parrot I had. I wonder if all Red Heads make these noises and such. She'd move her head dancing. Say hello when people walked in. Meow like a cat when she wanted attention. And she did this hilarious weird dance thing when I ran the vacuum. And so much more. The vacuum dance used to crack me up. Miss her so much 😢
Yes, he was on the ground hiding by some bricks. He still can't fly - one wing looks pretty messed up still right where the flying feathers go and this is a year later so maybe it is a permanent type of injury. Yeah it is awesome here - Parrots, Peacocks, Deer, Coyotes & Bears. Been to Florida twice and it is a nice flat state with some very large bugs everywhere ;)
That is all my original footage. Pasadena and San Marino California has been invaded by these parrots over the years. Senor Verde was once part of the flocks seen in this video ;0
Your video and seeing Senior Verde was a great influence on our decision to purchase a Mexican Red Head. She is doing great and comes home in a few weeks. Thanks
Flocks of parrots? That does it, I'm putting my house up for sale and moving there. That sounds like paradise! Sounds like your family and Senor Verde make a perfect match. I wonder how that parrot population came to be in that area? That is way cool.
That's not fair you got a free Red Headed Mexican Amazon Parrot, and I would have to pay for one. Lucky you. I need to live in Cali. Ojalá You lucky bird you. Lolz y Salaam
I have a question we recently helped one of these parrots out since it was in my front yard we managed to put it in a cage, but anytime I try and pet it, the parrot tries to bite me. Will the bird grow friendly towards me or stay aggressive??
Hard to say. I am the only one that is able to hold and pet it. My son can occasional pet it if the bird is in the right mood. My wife even after 9 years cannot hold the bird nor pet it without it trying to bite her...
@@SPL i rescued my parrot about 5months ago and i cant get her to get out of her cage. I xan grab her without biting me and she likes to be held, but when she is in her cage she soesnt like to cone out. How old was yours when you got him?
@@Salv5683 Not sure about the age. I just leave the cage door open from 9 am until evening. I make sure to close it when I go out. He comes out when he wants to. I also keep him covered all night with a thin sheet on top of the cage. I put the cage in the corner in the kitchen - the room we are in most since they are very social - although they tend to bond with only one person. No one can hold him but me. Strange but they like people but prefer just one. So again, he comes out whenever he feels like it.
@@SPL i can leave the cage open all day and she wont move. How long till yiu got yours to talk? What does he eat, mine only likes seeds and sometimes apples.
I love it with you on the bici. Muy chido Señor, Mashallah y el se queda con vos, arriba mí México y mis Méjicanos. 🇲🇽 jaí jaí jaí y Allahu Akbar habibi
I was heading to pasadena coty xollege one morning around 6:30 am and i saw one get hit by a car :( i would of rescued it but i had to get to my 7am class :(
That bird is living the life. Mashallah y lol happy to see he's better of con ustedes. Do you have an idea of its possible age? Maybe a Vet can make an educated approximation? Hmmm. Lovely Perico. Subhan'Allah
Technically he is not tame. I am the only one who can handle him -he tries to bite everyone else. But it was a lot of work to tame him for safe handling by me. He is good now. 👍
I don't really know if this Parrot is a male or female. A Veterinarian can do a test for that but never had it done. There is a 50% chance he is Senor Verde! 😜
Was he hard to train? I have a baby one and I don't know any history on her. She has her moments where she seems to really like me and other times I'm not too sure. I know that's normal bird behavior but any tips would help. Thanks
lovecoco2 It took about a year for my son to be able to pet him (not really sure on the sex). My wife still can't touch him. He will try to bite everyone else so no one tries to hold or pet him. He is perfectly fine with me now but the first 6 months he did bite me hard on occasion (drawing blood) , now he never does. In fact now he calls for me to pet him. So yes and no. I don't think this species is people friendly but your bird should bond to you over time.
This species migrated to Central America and then Mexico and is now found in Southern California. They are really cool birds especially when they are in large flocks numbering in the hundreds.
Awesome, thank you so much for putting that up, what a funny little guy! Were the wild ones in this video in your area or was that national geographic footage? Love the bird on the handlebars. Very cool!
I wish exotic birds would migrate to Texas, but there are too many Raptor Birds here, Owls, Hawks, Turkey Vultures, and migrating predators like Eagles, Hawks and Condors...
Funny, driving around with my Nephew training him in Pasadena and just saw a flock of about 20 parrots. I mentioned that there are no predators here for them - and everyone leaves food out for them so they aren't going anywhere soon. Saw two Blue Jays this morning also. I guess "Don't Mess With Texas" is a truism ;).
A little late in posting but they are native to the Rio Grande Valley. Brownsville is full of them! They are completely adapted to the environment except their numbers are lower due to two reasons: many people cut hollow palm trees which these birds nest in and, sadly, the second one is earth's greatest predator: man. Many people try to steal hatchlings to sell in the black pet trade.

Sorry to hear that -very sad.

What a cutie :) I have had my little Red Head for about 38 years. I never lock her up unless we go get her wings and nails clipped. She is a true pet.

Could you post more videos of him?
He makes a few cameos in some of my other videos - but maybe i need a new video also.
I like the way he goes 'Helloooooo'.
Love it!!
Hi it must had been a baby to be able to tame the parrot since adults are very aggressive when wild

Awesome! These are the coolest birds! 👊

Yes. He is doing very well. I take him to my Church on occasion and the kids just love him. He is a fine pet.
How did u rescued? I can’t find a place here in Pasadena or anywhere else i can adopt one, i live in chino hills ca
Not sure where you can adopt one. Check your local bird stores.
Awesome 👌

The music is a little too loud. I for one would rather listen to the parrot.
Fixed it for you. Thanks for the input. I had moved the music to the beginning earlier this year due to a UA-cam glitch.
