Aluminum wheels have stress points that give them their strength, allowing them to look like actual spider webs and support an entire car just fine.
Steel has a high strength-weight ratio, meaning it has no need for these stress points.
Carbon fiber wheels are made possible through magic.
Yeah I guess steel has a high weight/strength ratio but you know what has an even higher ratio? Aluminum

@@monhi64 Only under certain conditions. And it depends on the grades of steel and aluminum you’re comparing. Steel has a higher sheer strength and is more malleable than aluminum, which tends to fracture when stressed. Steel also has a higher tensile and compressive strength, which is why you don't see aluminum bolts or armor very much. When it comes to car wheels, stress points are created in the spokes of an aluminum wheel to create internal tension and give it strength. Something steel rims don't need.
