second level was tricky. The ostrich part I gave me the most trouble. The monkey part was just a bit of trial and error to work out which ones you needed to trigger
same, everytime i would rent this game at the store, i would convince myself that it wasnt so bad....and then die all weekend in the monkey sections to ultimately return the game and feel like i wasted my whole weekend for nothing lol...good times! And just to add salt to the wound, there were some previews of the gameplay at the beginning if you don't touch the controller for a while, and you would see that you can grow old and attack, so of course as a kid u wanted to reach that point but nope! It was just mpossible.
I would be so fascinated to have somebody who's never seen or heard of the lion king sit down, play this game through, and then have them explain their understanding of the story.
I had way more difficulty with Toy Story for the SNES than this. Don't get me wrong this game is ballbustingly difficult, but I can still pick it up after a few years and casually beat it. Took me years to beat Toy Story, I beat this over the course of a summer. Wish I had a way of recording me playing it. I'm not as good at this guy but I'm pretty good at it
@@Telcontar86 Toy Story is more about patience. If you take your time, most levels aren't too hard. The ones that will really destroy you are the RC and auto scrolling ones.
@@benjamincrew1949 I agree, although I'd add determination to that patience. The only reason I eventually beat it was because I sat down and said to myself that no other 2D platformer has beaten me long term but this so I'm beating it now LOL. @@Telcontar86 Yes, I actually just commented not too long ago that escaping from Scud is absolutely the most difficult section in the game. It's all memorization because there's no way to react in time to the things coming at you.

As I’ve gotten older I’ve realized that I’m one of a small number of people who actually beat this game as a kid. It took me a very, very, VERY long time. But I was able to beat it without cheats. Only once though. I’ll have to try it again some day.
Asmongold's reaction to this brought me here. You absolutely crushed this game. Side note, but, I think both the visuals and soundtrack have aged really well. Not just for a movie tie-in, but for any video game in general.
@@mekverseedits How did you learn the monkey part? Once I figured that out after years of playing on and off, the game was pretty easy yeah. But it was hundreds of attempts at the monkeys before I got it
I can't beat the log jump in Hakuna Matata. After more than 2 decades, this is the first time i'm seeing then orangutan boss. You can't see that even when you input the BARRY cheat.
I played this on the PC with my lil' bro in the early 90s. I had no idea this game was so short, took me a while to beat it! I remeber some parts were beyond frustrating, like the one where you jump on logs travelling on watterfall, to this day, the logs are left impressed in my mind. Still the game looked gorgeous and I get a nostalgic feeling watching you play.
Instant nostalgia! I used love running home from the bus and playing this game as a kid. By my estimate, it’s been about 26 years since the last time I played. Watching this video brings back instant memories of my childhood. Amazing! PS - never made it to pride rock but I was a lot closer to beating the game than I thought
Proud to say that i have beaten this game as an 8 year old back in the day. Gamer kids these days wouldn't understand the struggle and the work you need to put in to beat these kinds of games back then.
I've always loved this game! Took me a long time to beat it, but I could only do it in about half an hour. I didn't know you could skip the hell stage.
I remember playing this game constantly on my DOS when I was around 10 years old. Beat it several times then but it was so difficult and only possible after writing down combinations first. That was 19 years ago!
for so many years i couldn't beat level 2 and the younger simba death scene used to scare the shit out of me so I never beat it, then last year I kept trying and I made it all the way to the "be prepared" level with older simba, and then I couldn't beat that. this is such an infuriating but fun game. everytime you get to another level then die and have to redo *everything* it feels like a part of you dies lmao
Funny how the 2nd stage is much harder than the rest of the stages. Great design choice. I know it took me a few rentals back in the day to get past it.
There was a gap at the end of the lava level that I could never pass... I always died there, so close to the end. In this video the player just skipped it, seemed like a hack or a shortcut. Impressive.. I beat this when I was a teen and the Gameboy version. I never knew about the platform skipping or that you could just keep Simba far left on the stampede. I love the fact you just skipped through most of the lava stage.. which was the hardest part of the game for me
I remember telling my friends i could heat this game and they didn't believe me. So one of them came over with an emulator on a dreamcast disc and proceeded to show them the bonus stages, powerups, and health upgrades. This game was made "impossible" by design. When this game was released, video game and movie rentals were at an all time high.
