Thank you for showing how to do work the Hanks of yarn into cakes. It seems so obvious now from watching your video. I tried to do this and got my yarn so knotted up it took me 7 hours and several snipping of the yarn to sort it out. Thank you! You are the best!
if anyone wants to skip the ad for whatever reason (due to rewatching or whatever) timestamp is about 4:25 to get straight to it. But if you do wanna see what yarn she got in the subscription boxes go ahead and watch from the start.
I have the same wool winder as you too, i have just got 4 large skeins and wondered what i have to do with them and you have helped as to how to deal with them, thank you very much. take care Kim👍👍👍
I found watching that yarn cake come together sooooooooo relaxing for some reason (and what a pretty colour too!). Thank you for this video, and just have to mention you look completely gorgeous too - love your dress! xx
Thank you for this video, I’m buying sock yarns and learning to knit socks, just bought my first swift and winder and panicked at the skein knots. Feel so much happier now 😊🧶🧶
Great tutorial. It’s always nice to see someone do this. I have a ball winder and an Amish swift and have yet to use them. I think I needed a push. Thanks Sarah-Jayne!
My first time this evening trying to make a ball of yarn out of one of these hanks of yarn or whatever. I cut the little ties. Then set it on the sofa holding one looped end over my arm, while trying to wind a ball. It took me and hour and a half, I think. I ended up with several small balls that I cut the ends off as they got caught in the rest of it. Later on I got the idea that I should make a small ball then weave it through the maze of yarn. I got better at it as I went on. So, I tied all the little balls together and made one large ball. So, much for having any time to crochet this evening. I'll try putting it over a chair back on the next one.
Jem McDowell delicate fibres (some mohairs, silks, alpaca ect) also can not withstand to the constant strain on the strands when wound in a ball (it can damage the inner fibres). That’s also why it is better just to wind up your cake just before starting your project, and not leaving it in a cake for many years to come 😉
Hi hun, thank you for showing us how to do this, I really appreciate it as I’m wanting to venture into socks, and the skeins look very daunting. Would a sock tutorial be a possibility? Hope you are all ok. Take care, lots of love. Xxx
At 55 years young I am a beginner at the art of crochet. I've seen these skeins of yarn and wondered what they are for. My question is: since I have arthritis is there another motorized method other than kitchen appliances? I'm having a blast crocheting and making projects!!
Hi Jean their are numerous gadgets on the market for doing this so I think it may be of help if you look on line to see which one would suit you best 🙂
I never knew you needed to do this so thank you for sharing this video. I’ve got some skeins coming for an order I just placed and this has saved me making a mess of them!!! If you don’t have a yarn winder is there something else you could use? Xx
Barbara West May have to be a chair as I only have a compliant dog but he won’t stay still 😆. Have looked at other videos which show an electric hand whisk so might try that
Yep, I have found that cats are seldom compliant for this task, either. Good luck with the electric whisk. I tend to get into trouble even with a hand-turned winder like the one in the video. I am in awe of her ability to carry on with relatively few interruptions.
A swift is a device for holding the open skein to be wound. You can use it with a yarn winder like the one in the video, or wind the yarn by hand from the swift. It opens sort of like an umbrella, and is sometimes called an umbrella swift. It can change diameter to fit the open skein and hold it securely.
Thank you for the video. I’m hoping you start sock knitting so you can learn me😂.. I have learnt crocheting through you and have come so far with it so thank you for all your videos😊😊
Karen Biron...best to leave yarn as a skein if you aren't going to use it right away...i was taught that winding yarn into a ball and leaving it can cause the yarn to stretch
I've had a big hot mess twice now. I even bought myself a yarn Umbrella and yarn Winder.... And.. I guess the yarn was tangled somewhere... And it pulled the yarn off of the umbrella.... So this was hot mess #2.
What if you don't really have either a folded over end or rather can't tell which is which because your baby neice got a hold of it and just started pulling on everything... ^.^;;
Omg I'm almost halfway through the video and she hasn't even started the tutorial! Edit: almost 5 minutes into a 7.5 minute video and she finally starts!
Ordered a knitcrate box after watching this video. It didn’t arrive and knit crate didn’t respond to the three emails I sent them. It’s been 11 weeks. I would be more understanding if knit crate had responded and given a reasonable explanation. I’m now waiting for my bank’s scamming department to investigate them and get my money back, which could take upto 60 days! I’m really disappointed as it’s the first time I’d ordered something that had been recommended by a social media influencer.
THANK YOU VERY MUCH.VERY NICE, HELP FULL. I WOULD LIKE TO ORDER YARN, WHICH IS AWSOME, NICE. WHERE CAN I ORDER.ADDRES OR FONE NUMBER? PLEASE . THANK YOU
Great news I love making socks!! You have to look on the site of Haalu.de she is wonderful with yarn and knitting socks Loveley greatings from Holland xx
Wish you would have just got to the ball making, instead of promoting this company. I had this subscription and it takes you up to 2 months to get your box

I realize Im quite randomly asking but do anyone know a good site to watch newly released movies online?
@Arturo Colton Flixportal
@Kenneth Emmanuel thanks, I went there and it seems to work :) I appreciate it!!
@Arturo Colton no problem :)
I know!! the same thing happened to me and I said I ll never buy yarn like that again because I was do discouraged.

This is so cool I’ve gone and bought one. I always struggle to rewind yarn and it’s so difficult to use. Thank you for this

Why do yarn companies sell skeins instead of prewound cakes? I've never understood this!
Jem McDowell because this is usually how they are dyed. Especially hand dyed ones x
Bella Coco thank you for replying, I always wondered why this was :)
Caron now sells cakes.

The main reason is because it’s so much cheaper for them!

Very helpful. Thank you for sharing. Enjoy your channel so much. ❤️
You're very welcome 🙂
Thank you, I needed to know what to do with my collection of skeins 🧶🌷🧣
You are very welcome :)
😲 wow, that’s so cool 😎 little machine to own. Thanks Bella. By the way Bella in Spanish means beautiful.
I did this today except my hubby held his arms out so I didn’t need a chair. Worked up fast,
🤣🤣🤣🤣. I hope he got a really good dinner after that! Stella
I would love to get a membership to a box. But I haven't found one that doesn't offer wool. I'm allergic to wool.

I have those same yarns. Would love to see you do the cowl pattern as it has me a bit baffled.
Thank you for the tutorial.. I really need this
Bella, good presentation. However these Hanks can be tricky. I've had a nightmare with them, so I will go real slow next time.
I have this and it’s life changing!!!

I remember my mum getting these when I was a child. I had to sit with it on my arms while she wound it in to a ball
Sandra Leyland Me too! Great memories!
Your videos are awesome! Thank you!
I never knew you needed to do this so thank you for sharing this video. I’ve got some skeins coming for an order I just placed and this has saved me making a mess of them!!! If you don’t have a yarn winder is there something else you could use? Xx
A compliant small child, partner, spouse, etc., or a straight chair back can hold the skein while you wind by hand.
Barbara West May have to be a chair as I only have a compliant dog but he won’t stay still 😆. Have looked at other videos which show an electric hand whisk so might try that

Binky D'Eath I think I may invest in one as I wound a small skein last night by hand and nearly cried haha.
Thank you for the video. I’m hoping you start sock knitting so you can learn me😂.. I have learnt crocheting through you and have come so far with it so thank you for all your videos😊😊

When you start working with the yarn, do you pull from the outside end or the inside?
u n ur vdeos are soooo sweeeeet. luv u bellaa 🙏🙏😘😘😘😘
Very helpful. Thank you.
Is a skein of yarn equivalent to 300g ball
Very useful, thank you 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
If I have skeins that I am saving for projects down the road do you recommend leaving them as is or winding them into a ball?
Karen Biron...best to leave yarn as a skein if you aren't going to use it right away...i was taught that winding yarn into a ball and leaving it can cause the yarn to stretch
A sock knitting tutorial would be awesome!
Thanks for showing how to use a yarn winder but how about for people who still wind by hand? Any tips? And not (lol) buy a yarn winder.
Lydia Bouza there are some videos on how to do it by hand using paper towel rolls and stuff
Erica Ruth. Thanks Erica👍
that yarn looks like mint chocolate chip ice cream tbh
I’ve always been curious about skeins! thanks for teaching about this!
Knit crate do not sell to the uk do they?
Hi

Misleading title. This video is for hanks of yarn and not skeins
very good

4:23 To skip the intro
What about doing a new crochet video 9n how to crochet a market bag?

Loveley greatings from Holland xx
I thought this video was going to be about pattern ideas of what you can do with a skein of yarn. very disappointed :( in the title of this
Wish you would have just got to the ball making, instead of promoting this company. I had this subscription and it takes you up to 2 months to get your box
why there has to be 4.5 minutes of nonsense about something else before getting to the topic of the video?! such a waste of time
I need this in cotton yarn for my items 🌹
