I wish they gave Japan a second leader. They have one of the most versatile Civ abilities, but it's their leader that heavily favors Culture gameplay. Give them a production-focused leader - they'll be as good as Germans. Give them a Science-focused leader - and they'll catch up with Korea. Give them a war-focused leader - and they'll get to Domination Victory while doing every other Victory at the same time. Really, why France, a purely Culture Civ, gets three different leaders, while Japan has to sit with this one guy?
Japan is probably one of the best Civs to get Dance of the Aurora/Desert Folklore, the reason being that these bonuses *stack* with the district adjacency bonus. This makes it super effective as you both are getting a +2 adjacency bonus and not wasting an otherwise useless (early game at least) tile. Take a small desert, surround it with three or four cities, place all your districts inside, fields outside, and you're golden.
@@baumi8805 Each District gets a +0.5 (+1 for Japan) bonus for each adjacent district. But if you build a district on the tundra, the tile remains tundra, meaning that Dance of the Aurora still works, so the tile as a whole gives +1.5 to adjacent Holy Sites, +2 for Japan.
For diplomatic victory I think all civs that can easily gain alliance with city state are favorite for that type of victory.. Imo Portugal, Georgia, Greece etc
There would be a decent pool to pull from. Oda Nobunaga. Tokagawa Ieyasu. Date Masamune. Heck, Toyotomi Hideyoshi actually did attempt domination via Korea and China.
I like Japan as it is the most versatile one with multiple options. Germany is boxed in to domination or scientific. Jayavarman to religious or cultural. But Japan can literally do anything
Khmer + Voidsingers are insane! i just won a deity culture victory around turn 170. 450 science without even building one campus. Edit: i had the monoply mode on, wich of course increased the victory speed
@@TheCivLifeR I guess its because i sent you a link. Here's my deleted comment: Hi, TheCivLifeR. I've got the huge topic, and if you know about it could you share to your fans? In civ 6, there is production discount in building districts in case you have opened little amount of districs and already build some. For example, you've opened campus and holy site, and in case you want the production discount you build 2 campuses and pre build holy site (or kind of). If you can help to clarify this system it'd be awesome. I've got the link to .png file, but UA-cam delete this comment again. I can send it to another social place like discord
Civ”I put Japan on the bottom of the review list and got a ton of flack and now I know the truth” lifer lol

Japan is one of those cis who I think is getting a new leader if they make a new new frontier pass
Because eurocentric developers. And racism towards Asians.
@@papafoundry5537 So Hojo is the only Asian civ including dlc?
Well, good news then. New japanese leader next year!

This review has given me the confidence to take my game up a level from a King to Emperor. Big deal as I'm lazy, and like easy wins.
Japan is my favorite civ for the versatility :)
they are really good at that!

What do you mean with stack with the adjacency bonus?

pretty much an all around king
What about Rome?
Rome is wide boi, who gets a bajillion cities to do with as they please.
@@isphus Japan and Germany can be wide too.. But each of their cities are so productive that Rome can't match them.
And Peter is wider than wide Putin
Love what you're doing man. Laughed when you lost your archer at 3:59. Liking the cool accent! Where are you from?
appreciate it! Im canadian
0:16 im shock that u finally build harbor 😂
great stuff thanks for the vid. i think hojo was a shogun though not the emperor. not positive but its easier to post than to look things up
not even a shogun, just a regent "shikken"
Started messing with the Khmer. Loving the river buffs.

Yeah I've been playing for 2 days and have been rushing science instead of culture lol
well done...all that good stuff
Thank you kindly
Really useful cheers
Glad it helped
I dare you to win a Dom victory as Canada.
After the first or the second kill, everyone is going to denounce you
Good video but how Persia leave a game because you didn't concure all cities?
How close does each city need to be for Meiji restoration?
btw how do you skip the leader animations when they for example declare a war?
esc key
Fun fact:
Tokyo is kyoto spelled backwards
Nice meme

Stop locking your windows dude
