He grew up and matured... and so did his music. It changed with him. You can appreciate his old stuff, just like I do, but don't lose respect for him just because he doesn't rock out anymore like he did when he was 17. People change. It's a part of life. Get used to it because nothing stays the same forever.
Yes sir. We all change. As we mature, so does everything else. It would be kinda boring and uninteresting if we stayed the same, even if we were the best thing ever, like silver chair and so many others.
@@RedMissou And? That's great that those bands were happy to keep playing the same genre of music for decades on end. Doesn't mean everyone has to. Amazingly, some people do move on in their lives. I'm not even a huge fan of his post-chair stuff. But whining about what has been long gone is a waste of everyones time.
Amazing 90’s band! I think their music contributed heavily with the evolution of Grunge, Alternative and Progressive. My all time favorites that still make me goosebumps: Pretty much all of Frogstomp, Slave, Anthem for the year 2000, This jewel “No Association”, Cemetry, Learn to Hate, Spawn Again and Untitled from Godzilla!!!
All of Silverchair's records are great, and Young Modern is certainly no exception. It's a masterpiece, altho at the moment I favor "Freak Show" since it's got a little bit of everything. I recently learned it sounds best turned up loud on a cold day driving in a car really fast.
@jonoshaw1980 Agreed. Diorama is phenomenal album. I've been listening it almost every day past 6 years! I know, that's kinda sick but i'm obsessed with that master piece.
@SuperMegabar You're quite wrong. Daniel is his own producer. He produces everything from half of Freak Show all the way to their recent hiatus. Albeit he wrote all of that material anyway. The fact of the matter is, the music evolved right along with him. :)
Probably something like "Woah, the coke that those Fun Lovin Criminals just gave me is a little too heavy" :D He says something like that during some other songs
that's what i've been screaming. i love songs like this, but they're nothing compared to songs like Tuna in the Brine, Across the Night, Emotion Sickness, etc...
@SuperMegabar Yup :) It's all a matter of opinion. btw, when you say raw, I know what context you're speaking of. However, one thing I've learned about Silverchair during the Young Modern era is that the band didn't record track by track. They played live in the studio. Therefore it was raw. So I guess what you mean is the style just isn't your thing, and that's cool. Everyone is entitled to their opinions about things.

I know it's been almost a decade since your asking but he's saying "What a fool. I can't move." he's putting a "yeah" or "ya" after "move". I personally absolutely fucking love that last 15/20 seconds of "BUUUUUURRRNN" screamed at the end of this song.. So you can imagine my disappointment that he'd replaced it with a quick "go" in this particular performance lol
I love both bands but I have to agree with you on this one. This one is just damn rough and badass, and that's saying something because my own summer is pretty kickass itself.
Will someone please tell me which album this song is off of? I have Neon Ballroom, Frogstomp, Diorama... so I'm guessing this is from Freak Show? Also, which album is "The Door" off of?
well it's all about your taste, i guess. i like the new stuff for my own reasons and yes YM is fruity.. but i like fruity music lol. some people just aren't down with it and that's fine. but people can't deny that musically it's well composed etc, so i get annoyed when they say 'it's crap' instead of 'i dont like it'. nirvana isnt the same thing.. that's a big what-if. can't exactly speak for them. but with other bands.. it does happen. oh well. the past was better in a lot of ways.
smokymountaingirl Betsy yeah i noticed that too. I read that during this tour of performances Daniel was probably at his worst health wise. Still in the throes of anorexia. Being treated for depression -he was also recently diagnosed with reactive widespread reactive arthritis. It was extremely painful. He was heavily medicated so he could finish the tour. That explains the obvious lilt in his performance. He’s physically battered from his medical issues. I particularly noticed his movements are stiff and he’s not doing his signature full throttle head banging. After this tour the band took some brief R&R and went back in the studio to record Diorama. Daniel himself said he was able to function well enough to complete the album and was happy with it- but soon after the arthritis struck him severely and was unable to promote and tour behind the record. He was quite devastated about that along with Ben & Chris who were nothing but understanding and supportive. It’s still a great performance.

silberstuhl just ask Def Leppard. They have been together since their teens as well. Still going.....
Yes sir. We all change. As we mature, so does everything else. It would be kinda boring and uninteresting if we stayed the same, even if we were the best thing ever, like silver chair and so many others.

This version sucks
0:54 I love how the song's so damn heavy that Daniel and Chris move in unison for a moment; almost like they can't even help it.
I saw the video, and came down looking for this very comment!
Wonderful band! Heavy song
The pure grit in his voice is everything 🔥🙌
The timing on this song crazy it’s just so good and heavy as hell ❤
best silverchair song ever.
From like 2000-2003 after he got healthy again, this man was so fucking fine
im a dude i can this dude is fineee
This singer is totaly dedicated, a warrior, honest and direct. He merits his cookies and the vitamins.

Silverchair had some new metal shit going on as well around this time 🤘
They are almost the only band that sound better live then CD.
Tool does too. 🎯
I like the dissonant notes.
If you're not banging your head with Daniel and Chris at 0:54 then I don't know what's wrong with you, but you need Jesus or something.
ha well said. a decade and a half ! and i'm so excited for the new album.. you never know what the expect from these guys, they're amazing =)
wah i like this version alot!
Is the crowd dead or something?
Truly wish DJ wouldve channeled this angst if only for artistic reasons...bc MY GOD old Chair and his live performances are unmatched greatness
one of their best songs imo
Awesome song. I didn't remember this one.

I agree.
LOL
me too
why doesn't he do this in the actual song??
I love his moves at the beginning. How he opens his mouth and stuff....
I'd like to know what he said at 0:30

I suppose something not that friendly. Seems like he's a little off the hook during that concert. Even though that show is awesome.
@@peterheinzelmann3335 why would you assume that?

has anybody ever figured out what he was saying when he was always talking to himself? crazy daniel. and just as talented ; )
