Your explanation was very cool and easy to understand... I watched some of your tutorial videos. Really extraordinary. You will straight to stick to the pointt. Simple language, easy to understand. Observed no hurry in your explanation. Me as a beginner to learn Davinci resolve, your tutorials are helped me a lot. Thanks for your time.
try cst on first node with log to davinci wide gamut and cst in last node with davinci wide gamut to rec709 then grade between them...and always put ur Look after ur rec709 convert...this will let u work on 20 dynamic range
You've helped me so much with this Kasia! I have a video that I use an excellent LUT with for nature, but it doesn't get skin tones just right. This way, I can get them right. Thank you SO much dear! ❤

Thanks for the very helpful video! Can I recommend a related video topic for the future? I’m struggling with refining qualifiers. Unlike most examples on UA-cam, when I try to key a selection, it selects much more of the frame than I desire. And no matter how much I manipulate the qualifier values, I can never seem to narrow the selection the way I want it. If all I had were head shots (like your example clip) I see where that is straightforward. But in my shots, the background is more complex, and thus difficult to qualify my selection for skin tones. I’m certain I’m not the only person having this issue as a beginner. Thanks, and keep those great videos coming!
Hey Gary! Thanks so much for your comment! Yes, qualifier is sometimes imperfect - J think you might benefit from joining my course where you can learn HDR tools to tweak your clips better: colorgradinginsights.thinkific.com/pages/master-color-grading-davinci-resolve
@@colorgradinginsights I have already joined your course, and have completed the first four modules. BTW, it seems as though if someone joins your course using their Apple logon, it uses the name “Apple U” instead of their real name. At least that is what happened to me. I haven’t tried changing it. But, so far so good with the course, which is why I was providing feedback with my experiences so far. It’s very well organized, with great footage to practice on. I’ll try changing the name in the account I created when I joined the course. UPDATE: I was able to go into my profile on the course platform and successfully change my name, and fill in other portions of my profile.
thanks for the video... If your using a non-colour managed timeline and CST's (which you probably would do), where do you then place the Skin node? - if you grade before the output CST and use the highlight tool, your Vectorscope will only measure a desaturated unbalanced image!
At @1:30 in the video is an area where newbies are often confused, because for a given camera model it is often not at all clear what settings to use for the "Input Color Space". For example, for my Fujifilm X-T2 camera I have no idea what Input Color Space to use - and searching on the internet gives many conflicting opinions. How would you advise?
I would really recommend you to invest in my course: colorgradinginsights.thinkific.com/pages/master-color-grading-davinci-resolve where I am explaining color management very thoroughly! But also answering your question I would use Rec2020 and Gamma should be F-Log
i wanna do color correcting to wonder years the classic show how can i do that when its mutiple scene changes for each episode is it a quick way to do these settings
It’s just a general rule - you don’t have to stick to it! It’s just to make things easier - there’s no indicator in the Software for this! I would suggest to rely on what you see mostly!
Well, it is very well for those who has experience with davinci resolve, but for those who just learning. you skip important explanation about building the nodes. You just started with 7 nodes already setup.
Thanks! Another question. what should fall under Adjustment and Looks node. and if i want to adjust some colors (like a color of a shirt etc) using the color warper, should i do this in the adjustments node? Also if I want to add a lut, do i create a new node after the cst node?
Yes or you can create a separate node for every small adjustment. And the LUT should be applied at the very end after the cst node but then on the cst node you have to change the gamma to come on film log. I’ll make a tutorial how to apply LUTs this week!
Good video! It would have been good to see you build the node tree in the video for beginners. But can you explain why you put CST at the end but it was the first thing you did?
Thanks for the suggestion, will definitely consider, the CST should always be at the end, as this way we keep the whole dynamic range and I did it first as it basically converts the log clip into Rec 709
@@colorgradinginsights This makes sense, but if I add CST at the end, any previous nodes will remain untouched by the transformation. Or are there any settings in DR to make CST appear in all previous nodes too? Thank you!
@@stanislavpokorny2954 The idea is to make changes in the biggest color space possible, and then convert to Rec709 at the end. By putting the CST at the end, it shows what the Rec709 output will be, but takes advantage of the larger color space "underneath" to make all the changes. If she put the CST at the beginning, she'd essentially be working in the smaller, less-forgiving Rec709 color space. Hope that helps!
Heyyy. I hope this isn't an annoying question but with the adjustment node, is that a regular serial node with a parallel node underneath or a different node? I was trying your method and when I went to change the color in the adjustment layer it still messed with the skin tone layer. Please let me know. Thanks!

Great to hear!
it doesn't work quiet as well if you are using adjustment clips to color grade/correct
I just found you today while searching UA-cam for 'Vectorscope' content. Excellent video. New subscription from me. Thanks your time and effort.

Kasia, thank u for your value video, I really like that u change temperature with offset! and thnx for explanation on layer parraler node!
Love your tutorials please how do I create the layer node is it just the mixer later node
Hey! I cover it in my course: colorgradinginsights.thinkific.com/courses/masteringcolorgrading
What happens when you have say 3 parallel nodes. The top is priority, but how do the other 2 parallel nodes interact?
wow, explained it so good. finally. subbed!

Why are you doing CST as the last node. I always thought it should be the first node on top of which we correct and grade! Please advise.
Doing what you suggest is destructive. Working under the node is non destructive.

Most of them are in the Studio version I’m afraid!

No, it doesn’t have to be an adjustment node, it all depends on your node structure. Are you sure you’re using the layer nodes not the parrarel nodes?
