It is strange to hear someone talk about the Lightning back when they were still one-time cup winners, not a two-a-row cup and a three-in-a-row finalist team.
That season was hyped before it started especially here in Finland because Teemu Selänne went to Avs with Paul Kariya. Everybody thought that they would finally win the Cup together but that didn't happen. Then suddenly this was the fairytale season of Miikka Kiprusoff and boy was it fun to watch! He was the reason why Flames went to the Finals.
Shout out to the late Bill Davidson, owner of the Detroit Pistons and the Tampa Bay Lightning who has the rare distinction of being a professional sports owner winning two championships, with the Lightning and Pistons, the same year (2004). Upcoming... another Detroiter, Peter Karmanos will soon make it a three-fer for Detroit-based owners of NHL hockey teams for the 21st Century winning the Stanley Cup (Red Wings-Illitch, Lightning-Davidson, and Hurricanes-Karmanos).
Hey. I really like your videos. I have just a couple of corrections - Iginla also won the Richard and the Flyers beat the Leafs in 6 games in the second round.
I’m pretty sure this is the year St. Louis scored 94 points to win that Art Ross and Kovalchuk and Nash had 41 each when they won the Richard. Scoring had become abysmal and the lockout, while aggravating did fix some of that.
Wow, I didn't remember that Chicago was so close (read so awfully bad) to a top 2 pick in that season. Just imagine if the Hawks had one of Ovechkin/Malkin (instead of Cam Barker!)... they could've been an actual modern day dynasty.
its actually doable ... the thing that people are worried about around here is he might head to the KHL after his contract ends so he can play in the Olympics
Ahh 04, the year Kariya and Selanne signed insanely low contracts to play with the Avalanche. You should make a video explaining the signings and why it didn’t go well. I mean, really...the first line was Sakic Kariya and Selanne. The 2nd line was Forsberg with Tanguay and Hejduk.
You went over it, and there was "No definitive angle." Yeah, and in Buffalo a few years before Gary Bettman didn't want everyone laughing at him so he was practically throwing the Stanley Cup at Derian Hatcher in a desperate attempt to get off the ice as fast as possible. Brett Hull's toe was in the Crease, but everyone was mindful of Don Cherry saying "This rule is going to screw someone out of a Stanley Cup." But there was no review, something that is the responsibility of the league led by Bettman. Martin Gelinas scored the winning goal against three division winners in the playoffs, and it was his shot that was "stopped?" That would have been a record that would have stood, four series clinching goals in the playoffs over a division winner. But there was no review, and that's a responsibility of the league led by Bettman. You might have gone over it, but the League didn't.
Ah yes, the 2004 season. While my L.A. Kings were setting records for man-games lost to injury (540-something) the Lightning racked up 26 and won the Cup. TWENTY-SIX friggin' man-games lost. That's one guy out 26 games, or two guys out 13 games or whatever, but it graphically illustrates how keeping your top roster healthy is key to winning. One night at Colorado, Ian Laperriere was skating with the puck and slapped it into the Avs' zone, but hit it cockeyed and the puck flew up into the Kings' bench and clocked Ziggy Palffy in the face just below his shield. Fractured cheekbone and a mild concussion. Out 12 games. And he was sitting on the bench! Only the Kings. Hey Shannon, how about a video relating injuries to success during the season? We know about guys that play hurt through the playoffs, but what about the regular season?
Lecavalier's #'s weren't big in that series but Vinny commanded alot of attention. Like him fighting through 3 guys in game 7 to pass to Fedetenko for a goal.
How much do you think the Bertuzzi-Moore incident and the Senators-Flyers brawl (both in March 2004) led to the 2004-05 Lockout? Do you think those incidents made both sides realize some major changes in the CBA, officiating, suspensions, etc. were necessary?
What a dark season as penguin fan!!. Still got Mario but the teams best leading scorer is Swedish Dick....:)(Regular season). Tells you a lot about that penguin roster!. As a aftermath the 2001-2006 period was dark period for me as penguin fan!. Mario retired and etc etc. The only thing that is enjoyble for this period is a Draft years for penguins!. That a another story!;).
That was the game 6 Roenick OT goal after Sami Kapanen got crushed by Darcy Tucker. One of the loudest hits I've ever heard, and one of the most memorable goals I've seen.
J Marx I agree - that was one of the wildest OTs I have ever seen. In fact, the winner of that series was destined to lose to TB in mind due to the toll of that series (while the Lightning cruises to the conference final)
I feel that Roman Cechmanek got too much slack for his (short) NHL career. His save% in four seasons was .921, .921, .925 and .906 (.919 career save%). In the postseason it was .891, .936 and .909 (.909 career save%). I personally think him, Giguere, Turco or even Belfour should've gotten the Vezina in 2003, but of course Martin Brodeur got it despite a much lower save% than all four of them (one of quite a few weird and questionable Vezina wins for him, he was 12th in save% that year).
They say lightning doesn't strike in the same place. All jokes aside they'll win the cup this season if not they still have a while until they need to unload guys to keep the youngsters.
This is the year when I grew to absolutely hate Mike Ribeiro. Thankfully his flop, which still pisses me off to this day, had no bearing on the series. Unfortunately, Raycroft's crap goaltending and Thornton deciding to become as soft as Charmin did. Not that I think they would have been able to beat the Lightning, because they were ridiculously good. It is just so unbelievable how this team, with the talent that it had couldn't seal the deal.
One thing I will say, to play devil's advocate for Bertuzzi, is that Moore put a target on his back with his dirty hit to Markus Naslund, which gave him a serious concussion. That said, the reaction by Bertuzzi was inexcusable and completely avoidable. It is a shame that a guy who was a solid power forward, at least in my opinion, decided to permanently stain his reputation and career by doing what he did to Moore.
I feel for Calgary fans, that game six was a farce. However, mistakes happen in any league just pure crap it occures during playoffs let alone finals. As for fans calling out teams crap, ie Toronto not winning since 67, for some it all about championship s vs seasonal and playoff performance. To each his own. Yes the leafs had a miserable 80,s and 2004 to 2015. Yet they are the second best team all time in NHL history behind the Habs.
The "Steve Moore" incident led to Todd Bertuzzi's wife being talked about by the media, which was news to his mistress. Who dumped him soon after finding out.
It is strange to hear someone talk about the Lightning back when they were still one-time cup winners, not a two-a-row cup and a three-in-a-row finalist team.
I came across this channel this week and I’ve binge watched about 50 videos. This channel is incredible.
Justin Day I'm always almost jealous of people just discovering this channel. It's a fun time. It gets even better though. Welcome!
that was me when i first found it lol, i watched old stuff too that was irrelevant and was just like, “ohh i remember this.” 😂
That season was hyped before it started especially here in Finland because Teemu Selänne went to Avs with Paul Kariya. Everybody thought that they would finally win the Cup together but that didn't happen. Then suddenly this was the fairytale season of Miikka Kiprusoff and boy was it fun to watch! He was the reason why Flames went to the Finals.
Surprised he didn't mentioned Selänne and Kariya going to COL.
It's easy to forget just how damn good Brad Richards was back then, especially this particular season and in the playoffs.
7 GWG, playoff record.
Fedetenko baby
cant wait to see tomorrows video where the flyers go undefeated
Dacheeko - Smarter Investing you mean they go winless 😂
Best team ever.... it was like you could't see them on the ice.
I won my hockey pool that year.
82 ties, no wonder they brought in the shootout in 06
Iginla also won the richard that year
Yes, he also had 41 goals.
Most goals both regular and playoff.
“GAME 7 MARTIN ST. LOUIS, WE ARE GOING BACK TO TAMPA BAY!!!”
Jagr underachieving led to the Caps getting Ovechkin, good for Caps fans.
Surprised you didn’t talk about the Dany Heatley crash which happened on September 29, 2003.
I would add one trade. Nov. 14, 2003: San Jose traded Miikka Kiprusoff to Calgary for 2nd round pick 2005 (Marc-Edouard Vlasic)
Nabby was already starter. Sharks had to trade Kipper or Toskala or lose one of them on waivers. I think Vlasic have been a good return.
You taking tomorrow off? Discussing the lockout? Or just skipping ahead to post-lockout?
hope he discusses the lockout it would be a rather interesting watch/listen
The last player of the WHA retires after 25 years in the NHL...
I remember thinking sure Tampa might make it to the conference finals but I doubt they win the Stanley Cup. Little did I know what a geek I was.
I still have this thumbnail picture hanging up in my bedroom at my parents house....⚡️ lets add another
It was a miserable season. Snyder died, the Bertuzzi incident, Danton getting arrested. Then there's the impending lockout.
Hey. I really like your videos. I have just a couple of corrections - Iginla also won the Richard and the Flyers beat the Leafs in 6 games in the second round.
If Stevie Y hadn't taken that puck in the eye in Game 5, I think the Wings would have at least gotten past Calgary...
That basically ended his career too...
Iginla also tied for Richard
I’m pretty sure this is the year St. Louis scored 94 points to win that Art Ross and Kovalchuk and Nash had 41 each when they won the Richard. Scoring had become abysmal and the lockout, while aggravating did fix some of that.
Yes. Iginla also had 41G.
But also it becomes worse after the lockout when Jamie Benn won with 87P.
That’s a terrific point
Well, you know what they say. Lightning only strikes once.
NoVa that’s so cheeky
Wow, I didn't remember that Chicago was so close (read so awfully bad) to a top 2 pick in that season. Just imagine if the Hawks had one of Ovechkin/Malkin (instead of Cam Barker!)... they could've been an actual modern day dynasty.
Shannon Iggy tied for the Rocket Richard too!
Ovi is only 287 goals away from Gretzky
its actually doable ... the thing that people are worried about around here is he might head to the KHL after his contract ends so he can play in the Olympics
Chris B good thing the NHL wants to go to the next Olympics
"only"
Damn I thought it was more than that, I wanna see him do it
Ahh 04, the year Kariya and Selanne signed insanely low contracts to play with the Avalanche. You should make a video explaining the signings and why it didn’t go well. I mean, really...the first line was Sakic Kariya and Selanne. The 2nd line was Forsberg with Tanguay and Hejduk.
Roy retired. They would have at least made the finals with him in net
I desperately wish we could put all ads in the beginning. Having them randomly pop up in the middle of videos is so jarring
You went over it, and there was
"No definitive angle."

can't forget Dave Andreychuk getting a Cup after 21 years ... one more than Ray Bourque I believe
Chris B it was his 22 season, just like Raymond. But he came back and played half 05-06 season, so 23...
Bruins blowing the 3-1 lead to the Habs really sucked.
Ruslan Fedorenko’s first Stanley cup!
The morale final was TBL-PHI. 😉

I actually have a signed puck by Rick Dipietro from the tampa-isles series.
Let’s go Tampa! Callin’ it now: Stanley cup final Tampa vs Winnipeg
Lecavalier's #'s weren't big in that series but Vinny commanded alot of attention. Like him fighting through 3 guys in game 7 to pass to Fedetenko for a goal.
This was the Stanley Cup team that got me interested in NHL, never been a bolts fan tho.
Calgary went 2-2 in each of the four rounds. In all four rounds they won game five. They were two and two in game six, and one and one in game seven.
Brooks Laich turned out to be decent!
10:36 “The second-seeded San Jose Sharks beat the seventh-seed St. Louis Blues” I want this in a tongue-twister book.
What about the caps trades to Boston gonchar and nylander?
As an Avs fan, I accept your apology.
Hey laich had some pretty good season
On this day we will all walk together in history!!
Oooo and a do a vid of you think would have won the cup in the lockout season
Philly comes, "Oh, too close, wayyyy too many times!" ;(
How much do you think the Bertuzzi-Moore incident and the Senators-Flyers brawl (both in March 2004) led to the 2004-05 Lockout? Do you think those incidents made both sides realize some major changes in the CBA, officiating, suspensions, etc. were necessary?
How would fighting have impacted whether there was going to be a salary cap?
Iginla also won the Ted Lindsay that year
O and i want to see a vid on the blackhawks and if they were a dynasty or not
Loss still hurts for the Calgary Flames. Came too close in game 6.
How many games does domi get?
What a dark season as penguin fan!!. Still got Mario but the teams best leading scorer is Swedish Dick....:)(Regular season). Tells you a lot about that penguin roster!. Why is there 4 numbers for season results.. 40-15-15-12 instead of 40-30-12???
Gabriel Talbot W-L-OTL-T
Bertuzzi's goals were way down because the NHL cracked down on his push off move that the Canucks used to do on the PP
Leafs lost in 6 that season.
That was the game 6 Roenick OT goal after Sami Kapanen got crushed by Darcy Tucker. One of the loudest hits I've ever heard, and one of the most memorable goals I've seen.
J Marx
I agree - that was one of the wildest OTs I have ever seen. In fact, the winner of that series was destined to lose to TB in mind due to the toll of that series (while the Lightning cruises to the conference final)

Under the current playoffs format and Divisions:
COL vs NSH
DAL vs STL
SJ vs EDM
VAN vs CGY
DET vs OTT
TB vs BOS
PHI vs TOR
NJ vs BRK
Nick Leblanc why do you keep calling the New York Islanders, Brooklyn Islanders.. also why do they seem to play NJ a lot
Jessie Gandhi because they play in Brooklyn and because division format
Nick Leblanc but they are still called the New York Islanders, their name doesn’t change because they play in Brooklyn
Jessie Gandhi it’s a joke
i thought iggy won rocket Richard this season
Yeah, he tied with Kovy and Nash. The yearbook listed it incorrectly.
If Mark Bell doesn’t score a weak OT goal against Detroit, the Hawks get Malkin and history is changed forever.
I'd say the Hawks did okay
The 03-04 washington capitals can be summed up by ""you let your star players go and now your fuckin garbage"" (Urinatingtree)
They say lightning doesn't strike in the same place. All jokes aside they'll win the cup this season if not they still have a while until they need to unload guys to keep the youngsters.
Yup, Toronto doesn't suck in the playoffs since 1967.
THEY JUST DON'T PLAY IN THE FINALS SINCE 1967!!!
This is the year when I grew to absolutely hate Mike Ribeiro. Thankfully his flop, which still pisses me off to this day, had no bearing on the series. No-show-Joe zero points in 7 games.
Your Kucherov like, #86.
The Capitals probably think they won the trade since they didn't have to pay any of his salary any longer. $11 million per year wasted for 2 seasons.
Tampa Bay becoming only the second team below the Mason-Dixon Line to win the cup.
So i guess the next video is just gonna be you staring at the camera and saying nothing with a blank whiteboard behind you for 10 minutes
Tampa Bay "They kinda look like a team possessed."
Yeah, possessed of players who lose no man games to injuries.
😊
Avs this year are a big what if for me. On paper they should have steamrolled the league.
Do a vid on mario

GM Geroge McPhee.....Pretty good at the draft table.....atrocious at the trade table
It was in change my mind. Calgary got robbed
Don't you have the burden of proof? Asking for someone to show you proof when there's plenty of proof floating around already is ridiculous
ua-cam.com/video/qLav481BVEA/v-deo.html ...your stupid ass is still going to deny it.
HYP3DSNIP3R stfu
Don't be salty buddy. There is a burden of proof on you.
Calgary had a big shot. But nope. Its Calgary. What can u expect
Go back to doing news too
Very very very cheesy video title
The "Steve Moore" incident led to Todd Bertuzzi's wife being talked about by the media, which was news to his mistress. Who dumped him soon after finding out.
Cue the crybaby Calgary fans ....It didn't fully go over the line.
You're the only person who brought it up lol.
Vega M You obviously didn't read all of the comments.
Sorry that i missed 1/68 comments which had no crying in it anyway.
