Caps should be very interesting.... Dunno what moves if any would be made. Although given how the recent moves have been made I have faith in management
I don’t think Toffoli gets moved. With his wife being from the area, it sounded like he wanted to come to SJ to settle down awhile. He’d have to waive his no trade clause. With Eklund playing on a line lately with Macklin, I think Granlund is definitely more likely to get moved
Granlund will stay. Grier gave an interview recently talking about how Granlund is now mentoring Smith and Celebrini. Without Couture, Granlund stays until the kids grow up. Though definitely Toffoli stays
I’d love to see Gourde return to Tampa. They have a desperate need for scoring depth and grit in their middle six, and Gourde would fit perfectly. The Bolts often struggle getting to the puck first on the dump-and-chase, and Yanni was terrific at these puck battles. Would be an awesome move
@@garrw I was thinking the same thing but I also think they should go for another top 6 defenseman, I have faith in their top four when they’re healthy but that third pairing isn’t going to work
@ 100% agree with you, Lilleberg is great at the physical side of the game but being paired with Perbix isn’t working. A solid bottom pair D-man and a reliable backup goalie could put Tampa Bay over the top again
This trade with Colorado and Carolina should be a wake up call to Toronto , if marner isn't signed he needs to be traded , to a lesser extent Vancouver with boesser
I legit was thinking why not offer Marner for Petterson, you can either try giving Marner a chance to play center or make another trade for a center but you get a monster return
Serh Jones is a pretty solid right shot D man who can flourish on a good team, which he hasn't seen lately. The cap is going up, and his cap hit isn't as startling as it was a few years ago, and will get less so with time. Add that the Hawks could retain salary, depending on what they get back for him, and a deal is possible, IMO.
He's overpaid, so he'd need to go to a team that is attractive to him that has a LOT of cap space. I think Utah makes sense. Borderline playoff contender with low taxes.
Washington, on top of being #1 in the league right now, has an absolutely fantastic pipeline of young players coming up. They categorically should not be active at the trade deadline. Somehow, against all odds, this team seems to have a new contending window just starting to open up again (did it ever close really?) and they need to double down on developing what they have rather than trading away young prospects. Some might not know, but the worst trade made in the last 20 years was when the Capitals gave away Philip Forsberg as a rookie to Nashville for MARTIN ERAT, an attempt to buy a gunslinger for the third line to help a cup run. It failed miserably and Erat went bye-bye a few months later for nothing. Yes that 's right, Forsberg should have played for Washington right when the core of the team (Ovechkin, Backstrom, Kuznetsov, Carlson, Oshie, Wilson) were coming into their own. Just one more weapon ... could have pushed them to another Cup or two. TLDR: Learn from history Washington and DON'T TRADE.
It wouldn't hurt to trade a wild card guy though Zac Funk (a 20-year old who dominated the W last season, but wasn't on anyone's radars previously), Alex Alexeyev, Andrew Mangiapane and a conditional 2nd round pick (1st if Caps make SCF) to Vancouver for Brock Boeser
Almost that core: Oshie hadn't been acquired yet. You could argue (but not defend) the Erat-Forsberg trade led to the circumstances in which Oshie came to Washington. I also think you left Orlov out of that core list.
Washington should move on depreciated assets like they have done all year. move a thrid round pick for kuzmenko with a 50% retention from the flames and you might be able to plug him into the third line and upgrade your bottom six over sunny milano and verana.
I’d be surprised if Toffoli gets moved. He has a no trade clause, and part of the allure to go to SJ was his wife is from the area (Monterey). Would expect, Ceci, potentially ferarro. And maybe granny.
Jets need to go all in Hellebuyck is 30,Scheifele 31,Morrissey 29,Connor 28,Lowry 30. You have to give all you can picks/prospects to give them a chance to win before age out. I don't really want UFA unless its cheap no point giving up top prospects/picks unless signed 2-3yrs. Wpg isn't prime destination and I think we won't be resigning Ehlers 6m,Pionk 6m,Iafallo 4.1m, Appleton 2.2m + how much cap is going up and players might demand this summer. Signed guys I'd like but just names may or may not happen. Barzal,Kadri,Bertuzzi,Zacha,Sanheim/Ristolainen,Cozens/Byram,Parayko,Pulock,Bjorkstrand,Dach,Strome,Teravainen,Murphy,Martinez. Jets media/reporters have them in on Ristolainen,Dumoulin and they arnt sure if should target a 2C or try Lowry and obtain a Winger. But Chevaldayoff has said few days ago plans on going all in. Depends how big of a name only untouchable prospects Chibrikov/Salmonsson.* can't see Yager since just aquired him for Mcgroarty. Lambert,Lucius,Heinola,Picks 1st/2nd,Freijs,Stanley,Barlow could be assets. And projected Cap space by deadline isn't an issue like other top teams.
Im intrigued what NJ does. And i lowkey wanna go after gourde. Same with palat, cup winners on a young team. They can produce, provide that experience.
Minny also probably considers this year an experience building year. No real stress to push considering next year they are gonna have more money to work with than they've seen in forever. If they make moves, I'd expect they make some preparation adds if there's someone available that they'd really like to lock down, or just some maintenance ones to make sure they don't fall out of a playoff spot.
Marner will not wave his full NMC for them...plus it makes no sence for them to throw big assests at this point...they are still year or two away from true contention...as fa sure Columbus should at least make a try.Farabee is the one that i could see Columbus going for with trade scenario.
Blackhawk fan here. The Seth Jones situation is interesting. 9.5 Million is tough to move with so many teams at or near the cap. And do the Hawks want to deal him with a young D core when the team says he is a good influence on the kids. There is a segment of the fan base that wants him gone, it is similar to Nurse in Edmonton where every time Jones makes a mistake, they scream from the rooftops. Interestingly, many "NHL insiders" say other teams are reaching out to Chicago about Jones. If that is true, they are doing the math and see a path, then the question is, do they offer enough to get Kyle to pull the trigger? Due to the complexity of the deal, I say it is about a 20-25 percent chance of happening.
I suspect Chicago leaked that to create trade interest. GMs are asking each other what players cost all the time as due diligence or getting a general gauge on the market, so it's really meaningless for a team to check in on another player. Jones' contract is a killer, can't see anyone taking it on.
That segment of the fan base is very loud, and very vocal. (The Nurse situation is a good comparison.) His rough stretch after coming back from a broken foot didn't help the situation, either. I'm sure Davidson is listening to the offers, but I don't get the impression that he's as eager to trade Jones as much as the haters would like him to be. That's unless he gets a spectacular return, and Jones is willing to waive his full NMC, I don't see him going anywhere, either. Which I'm quite fine with me. If he was as bad as his detractors make him out to be, why would anyone be interested in trading for him?
I struggle to see Jones going anywhere anytime soon. No indication he's the player he was or that he ever will be again. Some say he never was. And that's not the type of player one acquires with that type of contract. But hey, my team's latest idiot GM did exactly that as his first move of any significance, so it happens even in this post-Milbury era.
What are your thoughts on the teams in the atlantic that are all fighting for a playoff Spot but are only out of a spot by 1 or 2 points (Ottawa, MTL, and NYR)? I know they arent technically in a spot which was the criteria for this video, but giving that they flip flop back and forth they're certainly worth a mention.
yeah same thing I thought with Seth Jones That is an expensive contract for a meh player. How much salary retention goes into that trade if it happens?
nashville is said to be treating orielly like he has a nmc so i dont likely see him going, maybe a gus nyquist trade but i dont see orielly leaving the preds anytime soon.
I'll be interested to see what the Preds do at the deadline. I'd throw Gustav Nyquist in there too Shannon. Trotz has said he wants a roster player. I think we need defense/center and unless some contender comes along and Trotz is blown away I just don't picture us making 3 number 1 picks. I'd really like him to target Dylan Cozens from Buffalo (but Buffalo has so many first rounders--kind of begs the question if that couldn't potentially be a draft decision and we could include some other sweetners).
Granlund's play post in season trade is not good, otherwise I could easily see him getting moved. Toffoli is not going anywhere. One of the reasons he signed a 4 year contract with the Sharks was his in-laws live nearby and he was tired of moving frequently.
Tom Fitzgerald's hands are mostly tied with NJ anyway. Most of his higher dollar contracts all have trade protection until next year. I don't see any major moves for NJ until next season.
A lot of the big names have full ntc as well. Ryan oreilly is 1 of fhe 1s with 0 protection, i think hes a lock to be moved. Id like him in minney but i dont think we should make a move this yr
My goodness, take all our draft picks for 2025 and his full contract and I'll take a fourth-liner in return. That's hyperbole, but he has been even worse than the predictable disaster I foresaw.
I don't think Colorado goes all in. Necas is not a replacement for Rantanen. I'm going out on a limb and saying they're going to be more passive this deadline and wait for Landeskog to be fully ready before they make any true pushes. They still have to sign Makar too, so that will likely be their big focus. They could prove me wrong and go after some big names, but I just don't see them necessarily going all-in this season.
I agree it's not an all-in trade for them now, they just couldn't risk their future by signing Mikko at a really high cap hit. So they won't make any risky trade deadline moves either, but surely look to do something if they feel they need to.
Agreed. I dont think they wanted to lose mikko but to get back assets was a plus. Plus necas is a solid player. But now their main focus is locking up makar
I really like the deal for Colorado. I think Necas has more room to grow--something with him and Carolina always seemed off. Add another solid player and it's pretty good for a rental whose numbers are at least somewhat inflated from who he plays with and likely the best in the past.
I'm not a fan of the CBJ but I have to say yes! Nobody expected them to be here after the tragic loss earlier this year. But they have rallied around those "ehem" comments, they should do a smart keeping an eye on the future trade for the team and improve while going into the dance give their some players some valuable xp as they lose this year
that's in the previous video. One thing THG probably should do is insert the in-video or end-of-video links to drive traffic to existing & related vids on his channel, otherwise an interested viewer would really have no idea those other videos exist
I hope the Stars trade for Nick Robertson. Janson and Nick would both love that. Nick might be that RW for Jason that the Stars have been trying to find some chemistry with all season. RW on the top line has been an ongoing experiment to try t o see who fits with Robo and Roope, and now Robo and Wyatt Johnston.
With Chicago trading Hall, they can retain 6.5 of Jones' 9.5 million dollar contract if needed. So, a team could get Seth Jones for 3 million for the next like 5 years. His contract is a lot easier to move now, and if teams have been calling, I expect a trade to happen on the deadline.
Thanks for the video! Great info, details, and insights! Seth Jones moving anywhere is unlikely. He's good for Chicago but his contract makes him tough to trade without eating much of it and I think the Blackhawks would rather keep him for his Defense and leadership than trade him.
Taffoli has a full no trade and his wife is from Monterrey ca just set up an nhl wife’s podcast he’s not going to wave that no trade plus he’s over paid after next year that 3rd & 4th were a huge over pay
Yeah, Caps most certainly should be sitting on their laurels this trade deadline unless they can shed some of their players that are going to end up bumped off the roster. When Milano comes back, he'll likely do a conditioning stint in Hershey, and then who does he replace? Raddysh? You can't take Frank away because he's the best player on that line. Eller may not get lots of scoring looks but he also doesn't allow many chances to the opposition, so you want him for that two way game. Then if you keep Milano, where does Leonard slot in? Am I crazy? Find out on the next episode of Dragon Ball Z.
Darnell nurse has had a good season? I’d have to disagree. Especially considering his cap hit. One of the five most overpaid/overrated D-Men in the entire league.
SJ dosent move Toffoli, has 3 more years, brought in to teach the young guys how to live in the NhL, plus his wife is happy here being from the bay and they have been moving around a lot the last few years. I think Ceci is the likely candidate for those looking to add blue line depth with playoff experience.
Washington’s been my favourite to win the cup since late November. They have that perfect combination of young guys and veterans working together and executing it extremely well.
Dallas yes, so that they don't have as much capital in future years when the Wild should peak. Wild no, next year perhaps, realistically they are 2-3 years from peaking into the 2nd round. The number one goal for the Wild needs to be resigning Kaprizov this summer.
Colorado was playing their best hockey in a long time after picking up Blackwood. Now trading away Rantenan will turn out to be the turning point for the WORSE. I don't think they realize what a huge factor he's been for them. But they'll find out fast! Mark this date on the calandar. Already 0-1 without him. i predict they go into the toilet along with Vancouver.
Stephenson , Gourde , Tanev and Burky all 100% on the block , all of them could fetch a decent price , we all know Stephenson is a fantastic player , simply isn’t fitting in , we saw it with Vegas
Thanks for the breakdown! I need some advice: I have a SafePal wallet with USDT, and I have the seed phrase. (mistake turkey blossom warfare blade until bachelor fall squeeze today flee guitar). How should I go about transferring them to Binance?
PLEASE don’t trade Yanni, Ron Francis! I will literally be going through the 5 stages of grief if we lose him. Plus I have 2 Yanni sweaters, what will I wear to games?
How about Seth Jones back to Columbus? I know his numbers look bad since going to Chicago but I believe he is still a good player if you put him on a team that isn't the worst in the league, and Columbus can certainly use a guy who'll give you 25 minutes a night on the blue line. They have the cap space and you shouldn't have to give up much (if anything) to get him since you're taking that contract off Chicago's hands, which is worth more than any player.
Kraken fan here. I'd hate to see Yanni go, but I'd hate to see Tanev go even more, so if one of them has to, I hope you're right. Tanev to me is a heart-and-soul player who adds a dimension to the team that doesn't always show up in stats. We've had so many games these last 2 years where it looked like he was the only guy on the ice who cared. I'd be heartbroken to see him in a different sweater.
@@joer7240 Oh, don't get me wrong - I don't want to lose Yanni, either. We wouldn't just be losing our Pepper Pot, we'd be losing Emma. She's Buoy's bestie & she needs to stick around to be available when Piper Shaw retires.
I can see why Chicago moved out Taylor Hall, who I thought was a strange choice to mentor Bedard. Outside of the sports media needing a name to kick around during broadcasts, it's not realistic that Seth Jones gets traded with 3 more years and a big cap hit into his 30s, while the Blackhawks are also trying to play less embarrassing hockey in front of their fans. At this point, Chicago would be smarter to trade for a good veteran mentor with three more years on his contract that can either play with Bedard or add some depth, to to offset doing such a terrible job of doing so last off-season.

But they have rallied around those "ehem" comments, they should do a smart keeping an eye on the future trade for the team and improve while going into the dance give their some players some valuable xp as they lose this year
Nelson? Peterson? Miller?
that's in the previous video. One thing THG probably should do is insert the in-video or end-of-video links to drive traffic to existing & related vids on his channel, otherwise an interested viewer would really have no idea those other videos exist
Unless there's a bargain for a right shot scorer the Kings will only make minor moves.
Gourde back to TB would make the fans very happy
With Chicago trading Hall, they can retain 6.5 of Jones' 9.5 million dollar contract if needed. So, a team could get Seth Jones for 3 million for the next like 5 years. His contract is a lot easier to move now, and if teams have been calling, I expect a trade to happen on the deadline.
FYI, you can only retain 50% max.
@@nerinamak3298that's when u bring in a 3rd team to retain the other 25%
Should the Leafs trade Rielly for Ristolainen?
Thanks for the video! Great info, details, and insights! Seth Jones moving anywhere is unlikely. He's good for Chicago but his contract makes him tough to trade without eating much of it and I think the Blackhawks would rather keep him for his Defense and leadership than trade him.
@@MarkCMG what contract could Chicago take back that could make a trade happen?
@@THEGDB I don't see it happening. I like Jones and am fine with him being the institutional memory of the team.
I have a hard time believing that Shanahan would let Marner go. That's one of the big reasons why Dubas was let go. His contract will be huge.
Leafs need to go full out this year. Prospects dont mean anything if your core is getting older
Pens made Codi Ceci appealing again...
Canucks going full firesale
Demko on the block
Nick Robertson abd picks for gourde
Toffoli has a no movement clause and he signed with the Sharks last year because his wife is from norther cali
Not adding Ottawa 😡
Im feeling Jones is going with retention. But I cant think straight after the Rantanen trade.
Vegas invented ALL IN.
All in including LTIR cap
Nah that was Tampa. Worked for Vegas too. Also no state tax.
NHL existed long before LV.
Devils going all in make no sense Rn. They just need to do some small medium moves like getting depth scoring and size and physicality.
Dallas yes, so that they don't have as much capital in future years when the Wild should peak. Wild no, next year perhaps, realistically they are 2-3 years from peaking into the 2nd round. The number one goal for the Wild needs to be resigning Kaprizov this summer.
Toffoli and Sharks agreed to commit to each other, he won’t get moved. His wife is from the Bay Area.
I think Tanev gets traded back to the Jets
Colorado was playing their best hockey in a long time after picking up Blackwood. Now trading away Rantenan will turn out to be the turning point for the WORSE. I don't think they realize what a huge factor he's been for them. But they'll find out fast! Mark this date on the calandar. Already 0-1 without him. i predict they go into the toilet along with Vancouver.
Marner is next. He will waive for a team like LA.
I hope we trade Tanev, I think there are young guys who can take his spot.
I’m from Toronto n this club is afraid of moving on from players . Reilly Tavares marner should all be traded
I still want Crosby in Colorado despite your earlier video. 😁
As a Kraken fan I hope he gets traded. Hes clogging the bottom 6 s Kartye isnt getting ice time
Stephenson , Gourde , Tanev and Burky all 100% on the block , all of them could fetch a decent price , we all know Stephenson is a fantastic player , simply isn’t fitting in , we saw it with Vegas
Stephenson isn't moving with the contract he has.
Im going to be sad when Robertson moves on, but at this point there's no way he wins the spot in the top 6. McMann and Knies are playing too well
Tanev isn't going anywhere
I hope my Ducks trade Gibson to Edmonton, and they win the Cup. Gibby deserves that win, and he isn't getting it with the Ducks (unfortunately)
LET'S GO RED WINGS!
Thanks for the breakdown! I need some advice: I have a SafePal wallet with USDT, and I have the seed phrase. (mistake turkey blossom warfare blade until bachelor fall squeeze today flee guitar). How should I go about transferring them to Binance?
Playing better? A decent team won't give up three goals in last three minutes of a game against division rival
It happens.
PLEASE don’t trade Yanni, Ron Francis! I will literally be going through the 5 stages of grief if we lose him.
Plus I have 2 Yanni sweaters, what will I wear to games?
Toffoli ain't going anywhere.
Seattle needs to trade them and even mccan tbh
GKG
at this point anyone is available lmao
Granlund might actually fetch a 1st round pick plus some other throw-in asset...
As a Kraken fan with 2 Gourde jerseys, I really hope he stays.
He and Turbo are more than their stats.
@@joer7240 Oh, don't get me wrong - I don't want to lose Yanni, either. We wouldn't just be losing our Pepper Pot, we'd be losing Emma. She's Buoy's bestie & she needs to stick around to be available when Piper Shaw retires.
Sharks could move Ceci ,Ruda, Ferraro Sterm and or Winnburg his contract is only 2 yrs @ 2 mil and a good middle six guy
Not sure where you're getting you're numbers but they're way off. Wennberg's contract is 2 years at 5 mil, not 2 mil.
Lmao of course ottawas right there and you glaze over them..
