My first time flying on a Boeing 757 WAS on Icelandair's 300 with the tail number TF-FIX from London Heathrow to Keflavik back in 2008. Funny enough, the second ever video I uploaded on my channel 16 years ago was from aboard that very aircraft. Happy to have captured moments on that Flying Pencil. Gonna miss them.
The 757 holds a special place in my heart. I so miss flying them regularly. So sad to see them go, and with Boeing in such a mess, I don't think we'll ever see another such airplane "star" again in my lifetime.
I flew with Iceland Air a couple of times from YYZ to AMS. With that carrier I had the first experience of flying over the Atlantic with a narrow body aircraft. I have become a fan. I like the smaller aircraft from both the pre and post flight experience. With check-in, boarding, exiting the plane, getting through customs and then getting luggage. All of those steps are just less busy than in the days when most cross Atlantic flights were big wide body jets like the 747's. 3-3 seating also feels less busy than the larger number of seats together in the middle of the big wide body jets. I was bumped to Saga. When Saga first came out, the Lie-Flat seats were only just starting to get deployed widely. Iceland Air's significantly lower cost than business class with legacy carriers made it competitive. Today is feels more like a really good premium economy. Far more comfortable than coach for long hall. When flying YYZ -> KEF - AMS, the flights are never longer than 6 hours so the comfort of a good premium economy is just fine. It would be lacking a bit comfort if flying from DEN or SEA. Over all I've had really good experiences with my flights. The crew both on the plane and those on the ground have been exceptionally friendly. I wish them well with their growth and I'm sure the new aircraft will be nicer than the old 757's. They were great planes for their day... but the world moves forward.
My first two trips to Iceland were on the 757-300 and my third was on a Max8. Glad I got to fly the 757 again after a gap of 38 years, (first flight was on a BA 757 in 1984 including a CAT3 landing at Heathrow). Will miss the old bird, always a good plane to fly on.
Of all of Boeings jets the 757 is my favorite truly a great passenger friendly jet. Until one of my pals was involved in an auto accident, he piloted the 757 round trip from JFK Heathrow.
I've flown Icelandair six times in total and I've flown on both of their 757-300s! I flew TF-FIX KEF-JFK on February 16, 2016, and I flew TF-ISX on OSL-KEF in late May 2019.
I am sad to see any 757 going out of service hopefully they will be repurposed and continue flying Beautiful birds My favorite aircraft the 757 all variants
I've done a few trans-Atlantic flights, and my favorite was on this aircraft. Can't specifically say why, but it was a very comfortable ride.......was quite memorable.
I help build this airplane during my stint as a structures Manufacturing Engineer for Boeing in the 90's. It was a period of changing technology in which the airplane's frames, stringers, and skins assembly transitioned from being located and joined by huge amounts of large tooling to much more simply and accurately being mated up by common pilot holes (determinate assembly). Boeing did everything to attempt to drive down the cost of manufacturing this airplane, but was not successful, in contrast to their more successful 737. So when sales started to dry up, it was the end of the road. And the end of my particular job. But what a good looking airplane it was, even in pencil form.
The 757 jets have had alot of years of service and a very dependable jet !! Its ashame it's the end of a age of a beautiful aircraft !! They are a very much used and age is against them !! Cost of fuel and repair is not cheap !! Remember this Jet for all of it's good and dependable aircraft the time is right to retire and move on to a newer Aircraft before disaster strikes due to age and alot of use remember all the good about this Jet !!!
Well im a 757 fan and it just destroys my aviation mind.. what it used to be from awesomeness to then sadness like the 757 will be gone in the future :,( (Somewhat)
One of the most important airplanes in my small country history Unfortunately, the current ownership’s personnel policy is so reprehensible that I only fly Icelandair is absolutely no other option is available. Plus they are seriously overpriced.
Whether I’m still alive or I’m might be dead someday, I’ll couldn’t experience these planes (especially to the one of my favorite planes; the 757 series) due to the fast pacing world. 😢
Certainly interesting to look at, but not very comfortable.... Few will miss the 753 in active service. I've flown a couple of long-ish sectors in it, and boy was it crowded and noisy!
The more modern, longer range more efficient versions of narrow bodies such as the A321 LR and XLR, and the 737 MAX are taking over its niche. So it was inevitable.
@@malvinuku7878 look at why the 787-8 failed . Japan airlines and others bought a ton of them to replace 767s , but after the 767s were replaced , no one bought any new 788s. Smaller NG a330s are also a possibility but so far it’s been small 787s
@@MrSchwabentierThe biggest issue with the 737 was that they kept the same airframe over and over, a low, old airframe, which they had to figure out how to put bigger engines on . Boeing could have easily made changes to the 757-200, including adding more efficient engines without ever needing MCAS due to the higher clearance height . An NG version of the 752 would be able to compete with the a320 neo (probably the 321). If they never discontinued the 757, they would have been much better off making a max version of its airframe.
@ a ng version of the 757 would be a A321 competitor but also only for the longer routes. But it wouldn’t stand a chance against the A320neo because it’s too big and heavy. There is a reason 737 and 757 existed at the same time. And while I agree that a reengined 757 would have been a good idea it doesn’t change the need for the 737 MAX. Except maybe the MAX-10.
@@MrSchwabentier Your correct. The 737MAX would still probably be made. And the issues? those are probably more because Boeing acquired McDonnel Douglas and all their cheap practices than because Boeing made the max at all .
The new 737 Max-8 that Icelandair operates are trash, cramped cabin and uncomfortable seats. The 757s were the sportscars of the sky, sad to see them gone
the B757-300 could do with a new lease of life . . . as a large cabin business jet for the charter market . . . Iceland Air should be retiring some of it's B757-200 fleet not the B757-300 . . . besides the B757-200 are even older than the B757-300 . . .
Boeing dropped developing A321XLR competitor, now that they realized what a mistake that was - even if they were to start now, it would not be done before mid-2030s, at which point they might as well aim at 9000km+ range in a narrowbody. Many existing\former users of 757 are buying XLRs now, those who never had them like Wizz air are buying XLRs anyway to open new routes not accessible on a traditional A320\321.
Operational Cost are one thing, but you also have to factor in capital costs for the purchase of the aircraft. Depending on your situation it might be cheaper to keep using what you have
That’s incredibly sad - We will remember you 757-300!! 😢😢🙌🙌
😔
They should be converted into freighters or Combis. Not scrapped. I’ll scrap the scrappers if they scrap them
The 757 is weirdly one of my most flown aircraft. So sad to see them disappearing

I remember seeing Icelandair’s 757-300 in Zurich some times. You will be missed 😢
B-757
She is arguably the best aircraft ever built by Boeing
She was powerful, very stable, and solid
Loved by pilots, and cabin attendants
I will never understand why Boeing stopped making them. I bet they regret the decision now that all the airlines are replacing it with the A321.
I flew the -200 version this summer and it was a lovely ride. Much nicer than the Max-flight I had to endure before the 757-flight.

Adieu, Icelandair’s 757-300s. May your 757-200 sister ships, A321XLR and 737 MAX successors continue your legacy for decades to come.
may 757 200 sister ships and 737 max 10 continue the legacy.....
Yes it is a beautiful plane. Wish Boeing would come up with a new 758-200/300
but it would be inneficcient
Yep I always thought the B757 was a great looking aircraft.....there's just something about its overall proportions that seem perfect!
How so?@@ABDULLAH-789-h2d
Devastating. Still one of the greatest flights I ever embarked on

I got to fly on the "flag" 757 twice. It'll always have a special place in my heart.
Sad to see another retired type.

These aircraft, should have been used until its bitter end; speaking of that, bring back the Queen of the Skies (Boeing 747) too.

sad to see the 757-300 retire for icelandair. i do wonder what they will do to them though

I flew on a Delta 753 this summer. It had been years since the last time I was on one, and there's a good chance that could be the last.
This was a supeise to me, i never got to see an IcelandAir 757-300, especially in any special liveries
Thank goodness i got to fly their 757-300 last month twice. Delta should buy them.
Not worth having different engines, BUTTTTT come on United, Pick em up cheap.

Or why not Air Transport International or Northern Pacific Airlines
