@@ROBinJVILLE it is actually not true. I for example killed ornstein and smough solo and still went on with his story. But in Ds 2 summoning is necessary if you want to progress with quests.
I remember Solaire being under powered. I think he just needed more HP but he is like video games greatest distracting companion for bosses so that is always useful than trying to go alone. He made Gwyn so easy for me, so worth making sure he never went hollow during all the other boss fights
In early Dark Souls prior to patch 1.5 or 1.05 I can't remember without looking up... Lightning was much more potent and especially on a few bosses you could bring Solaire on. So though not at all the best npc summon statistically. He was practically as broken to how this skit was. Say against the Gargoyles which he still highly effective after miracle/lightning nerfs. He solo with practical one shot per Gargoyle on direct lightning attack. Gaping Dragon would still give him trouble from recollection, but if not immediately KO by being devoured he could kill it himself. I don't believe after the patch he can do so given his damage output reduced and Gaping still able to just eat him or just DPS his health to zero. If you can say be it on PC or a physical disc on a 360 console play pure vanilla. You see the joke in killing certain bosses like nothing. Mind in my view anyone struggling on Gargoyle's after learning mechanics still, well I suspect they either got carried to beat the game or never did... Given they are pretty dang easy outside of going pure blind to being a simple mid boss in later areas who just block places. Apologies for long reply i can lose myself easy. He is indeed a good support to beat Gwyn if can't get parrying down on him. Heck my first playthrough way back I didn't try attempting to parry Gwyn as my mind wouldn't let me think the final boss was that simple😅. Love how the game would make me overthink or not think of obvious things due in part to what I faced prior in the game.
He's really useful for Gwyn because he's one of the most aggressive bosses ever and not much cover to heal unless you find a rock lol. I no what you mean though about trying to parry him. It looks hard to parry him but if you can't parry basic enemies then it's easy enough. I actually got inspired by a video clip on UA-cam of a guy partying him on jump attack and I actually did that on my first try lol. I wish could have gotten some more iron tarkus though. He's op in my mind for a straight heavy damage summon in the first game
@@thewierdo5366 Iron Tarkus was awesome and sadly a one hit wonder. I do find it funny and sad that this bad ass who usually solo the Iron Golem is found dead from falling in the ramparts 😅... I think he was to powerful to be left alive and the devs knew it🤣.
If we had Tarkus for most bosses instead of Solaire I think it would be way too easy lol. You can kinda assume that he's makes a return in the second game though. He supposed to be the scorpion summon while another scorpion woman is a boss. I like how the lore can really be that deep at times
@@thewierdo5366 Share same name and both bad ass. He was likely the reincarnation of Iron Tarkus. Sadly again only can use him from recollection to kill his former wife who fell to madness. Yes I believe those two where married or from his words mates. I recall both coming to being due to a mad sorcerer or something. It's why they both are so unique compared to the rest in the same area. I remember as long he lives which frankly he can kill the boss by himself. He has extra dialogue. I could be misremembering, but he has different dialogue depending how the battle goes. A slight difference if I recall he does the majority damage or not and his on damage taken. Also again been years, but I believe you can give him a item she drops. He rewards you something in kind. maybe the boss was weak to lighting.
I like how you adhere to our primitive desires and let Ben do the Rowan in the end. That or Rowan just infects everyone with wanting to be shirtless after a while xD
Solaire is the best npc ever, period, no questions asked.
When i read the title, i read "When Solitaire ruins Dark Souls"
Classic feeling we all know. Solitaire ruining Dark Souls
Me too, I'm thinking when they are about to kill the boss monster the solitaire game will pop up and they got 1 shot and die.
"WHATS GOOD MY SUN BRO!, YOU UP FOR SOME J. J. JOLLY COOPERATION!"
AHHHHHH YEAH!! 👋
AH, must be Dark Souls 2, before they nerf'd that spell.
DS1 lightning bolts were and are still just as a strong. They kind of had to nerf DS2’s as it was too broken.
Solaire wasn't in Dark Souls 2 though. Just his sword.
Oh come now Ben, cheer up. You didn't die even once. For a souls skit, that's practically unheard of.
1:58 - "Haha! What a story, Mark!
That was a pretty weak praise pose in the beginning. 😂
Can't raise my arms that high in that costume!

Personally I'd take that as a "If you think he was OP he's not, you're just so weak that you haven't hit the level of things to come yet." warning. Which after I'd probably cry
Watching these has me playing the games again.
I'm in love with these Souls videos!
Me doing group projects at my University:
that's why I always do it solo. More frustration = more feeling of achievement
But we have to summon solitaire 3 times for his story to progress, if u care about that stuff.
Also if feeling evil or completionist, he had a very ring on his person if decide to kill him...
Talking about this makes me want to replay the entire series now😅.
one of these episodes should feature a glass cannon mage 1 hp looks on the verge of just kicking the bucket at any second
Solaire is the Garrus Vakarian of Dark Souls.
Never had Solaire own a boss for me, but did have him run in and die horribly fast quite a few times.
Just my son into dark souls and now hes experience is the exact same as Ben’s haha
