All you have to do is leave the plant outdoors in the fall so it's exposed to temperatures between 45 & 55 F. It will begin setting buds at which you point you can bring it indoors in a cool bright spot and you're done. No need for all that box stuff.
Not enough darkness here to put it outside and our falls can include frost very early on. I would also have to repot when I brought it in to get rid of insects and I would still have to continue to give it darkness inside we can get frost in August. Thanks for the idea though maybe someone else here will read your comment and want to give it a try and report back on how it worked for them.
The cactus tend to bloom spontaneously throughout the year but it’s a few blooms here and there by giving them totally darkness you can get a ton of blooms and enjoy a nice show of colour and it’s so easy to cover them with a box rather then move them to a closet or something.
My Christmas cactus has been blooming from early December! But my Easter cactus hasnt bloomed since my daughter gave it to me years ago!! Trying to learn how to make the stubborn Easter cactus bloom again.
Have you tried giving it 16 hours of darkness? You could put a box over it till it forms buds and try that. Cut it off water also water it sparingly and no fertilizer.
Hi Jacqueline, my largest plant dropped blooms and segments big time this year. I have never repotted it. When is a good time to repot? Thanks for the great information in this video.
Hi Terria you can repot anytime it may need new soil and be lacking nutrients if it hasn’t had a climate or temp change. Plus if you pull it out of ur current pot you will see what is going on. When run into issues I like to remove the plant and exam the roots. Hope this helps let me know what you find out.
Hi Bonnie how’s it going? Boy has it gotten cold here and worst is she’s -33c at night coming on weekend. It is snowing today so we are making up for that brown Christmas.
It's been snowing but not that cold. 2C right now at 6:45 pm. We had a snow storm this morning but everything is melting but will get more snow later. I ordered a few things from my Veseys Bulbs yesterday.@@creatingmygarden
@richbishop7896 your temperatures sound much better then here. I haven’t ordered anything from veseys bulbs just seeds from them so far but will probably take an evening to go through their catalogue again. So many tempting plants love their plants and service.

Thank you so, so much for this. I will be giving this method a go for next Christmas 🎄
Yes I think it’s the easiest way. I know for me I don’t want to be moving the plants all the time to bring them into bloom.

Oh my goodness, it takes so long to prepare for blooms. I don't know if my cactus will ever be able to bloom with my memory.
Hi Mindy yes it definitely takes time. Gotta have them in a place where we remember and I will probably set a daily alarm. Otherwise I will forget.

I don't really have an area to grow from seed.@@creatingmygarden
@richbishop7896 what are you planting from veseys any favorites?
