  • I gained weight back after weight loss. 🤦‍♀️ After going plant-based, I lost 70 pounds. For many reasons discussed in this video, I gained weight back after losing it. I regained about 25 pounds and I’m sharing the mistakes I made, and my recommendations of what NOT to do if you are trying to lose weight. I also share my tips and what I did to turn things around and get back to focusing on my health and weight loss again.
I now have lost those 25 pounds and more, but it took time to get back on track, regain my health, lose the weight, and feel great! I’m now maintaining a healthy weight, and a healthy plant-based lifestyle!
Regaining weight after weight loss sucks, but if you regain some weight, that’s OK! Life happens. We have many competing priorities and unexpected things happen and get in the way. If you’re at a healthy weight, consider being ok with the weight gain and letting it go. If you’re trying to get to a healthy weight, remember that you have the power to make positive changes in your life. It’s all about making choices and setting yourself up to reach your goals. Weight loss is a process and a journey. It’s not always easy, but it’s possible. If I can do it, you can too! Do the best you can, and be kind to yourself. As always, DO WHAT WORKS FOR YOU to have healthy, happy, sustainable weight loss! 🌱 ❤️

Resilience, a positive attitude, being content with our achievements so far and for every day we are alive and with our loved ones. We are stronger than we might think when we are feeling down. Being positive and cheerful can be a habit and can be acquired, it soon becomes second nature, we can turn temporary failure into something we can learn from

Totally relate to you on having to focus on your own health. Sometimes I feel like "oh I could show people how easy it is to be vegan by having a beyond burger at the bbq". But at the end of the day, I know that incorporating processed foods like that is not aligned with my value of health. So homemade black bean burgers it is 😜 Always interesting to hear more about your journey Meg!

It's all about making choices that we can feel good about! I'll occasionally choose a processed product, but it took me a while to figure out how to make those choices on occasion and get right back to WFPB afterwards! Thanks for sharing your experience! I'm glad you can relate to my focus on health. 👍😊 Now I want a black bean burger! 😂

I really appreciate your decision to not skip this part of your story. I like your spirit and I'm sure getting it out there will be a help to others. We always want our weight loss to be a linear process and it rarely is. ❤️

Thank you! I considered jumping to the 'losing the last 10 pounds video', but I thought it was important to share this part of my story as well. I always try to keep it real and share my journey as fully as possible. I thought it may be helpful to share, and may be encouraging to others who have dealt with regaining weight after weight loss. ❤️

I think most of us can totally relate. 10 years ago after seeing "Forks Over Knives" I did what all my doctor's failed to do with their low carb diets, pills and procedures... I reversed diabetes, fibromyalgia, chronic depression, severe IBS, RA, and ABC-XYZ!!! lol It sure felt that way, I had so many issues! I also went on to lose 150 pounds over the next two years. I'd love to say I kept it off, but unfortunately it crept back as I became too cocky, unfocused and avoided our "friend" the scale. And as my weight crept back up, so did my blood sugar, blood pressure, pain levels, etc. By the time I finally stopped the denial I had gained back almost 50 lbs. I've lost 20 of it again this year, but it's so slow going at 70! Trying not to get discouraged and stay positive... and it's always good to know you're not alone, so thanks for the pep talk!

Wow! Thanks so much for sharing your experience, Char! It's incredible that you were able to resolve so many health issues. Old habits die hard, and it's easy to slip back into old patterns. I'm so happy to hear that you're back on track to reclaim your health and lose the weight! Keep going, you've got this! 🙌❤️

I am going through that problem right now. I lost all the extra weight I had but I have been consuming vegan treats I shouldn't be preparing, let alone eating. They're not store bought but homemade. Still fattening and unhealthy. I have gained a little bit of weight back and I am freaking out. Today I bought a ton of veggies and I am trying to get back on track. Also I've noticed that by eating badly my mood changes, I get depressed and out of energy. You're so right. Gratitude is an important thing. I should be grateful that I have learnt how to feed myself and stay away from illnesses and obesity. Lots of people I know do not have this notion clear and are eating even way unhealthier than me and I can't help them because they think my way of eating is not right. I am grateful for people like you, who make videos that are totally relatable and helpful. Thank you.

To keep my weight steady- I need to eat raw for breakfast and lunch and a portion controlled cooked veg/starch/grain dinner. For a sweet treat, one small vegan cookie (or half a large cookie) is all I get. Exercise is a MUST on a nearly daily basis. I measure 2 ounces dry pasta (3 ounces is a treat) plus beans and cooked veg is my go to dinner. My resting heart rate is 50 so I’m assuming my metabolism is very slow. I also need to watch bakery bread and plant butter as that is a luxury and a favorite of mine at family dinners and celebratory events. My close relatives have also struggled with weight issues and I gained 50 pounds easily with each of my pregnancies. As of now I’m 5’9 and weigh 142 lbs. It is a lifetime commitment to keep my weight from going up. But luckily eating this way….I’m not hungry or craving things. I feel very settled and at peace eating this way. I also have large uterine fibroids that make my abdomen feel very large and heavy at times.

It feels like for me it seems to come down to knowing yourself and knowing your kryptonite. My willpower for "moderation" only lasts so long. I've heard Chris Wark say; 99% is hard, 100% is easy. So for my non negotiables, I try to stick to avoiding the temptation altogether to avoid " the slippery slope"-lol. It can be a bummer at times, moderation is usually yummy-lol-but usually I'm glad I stuck to 100%.

Another fantastic video! *high five* I'm the type of person who gets a kick out of being counter-culture and this has served me well when I need to assert my dietary choices. Sometimes people think my food is weird and I find that amusing rather than offensive. You strike me as someone who is also comfortable marching to beat of your own drum.

Thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed the video! When I first went plant-based, social gatherings made me somewhat uncomfortable. Really relate to your video, and like the self caring way you talk about your health journey, and the fact that it clearly has helped you to empathize with others is encouraging. The amazing thing for me has been the lack of constant cravings for junk food. After the first week or two eating wfpb the cravings went away, and the food tasted very good and I just felt full, such a surprise, never realized that was possible. Am definitely not perfect but the lack of those nagging cravings keeps me coming back to wfpb. Really enjoyed hearing your story.

THANK YOU for this video!! It parallels my story. I am in the process of losing the weight I regained. Luckily I was able to put the breaks on before gaining it all back...pain is a good motivator!
Re gratitude: One story I tell myself to help me feel better about my “failure” and struggles to lose the regained weight is that one day I may be more relatable if I try to help others feel better through a WFPB lifestyle...to be able to say I’m vulnerable to these pitfalls, was wallowing in despair and slowly crawled out, again. I’m grateful for this so it helps me understand others and their struggles. I think if I was successful the first time, then maybe I wouldn’t be able to help anyone who backslid.
The “pleasure trap” has been helpful. Funny, I already knew about it from listening to Drs. Goldhamer and Lisle and Chec AJ, but I still slid into it...and I have addictive behavior...SO HARD to get out of. But I’m grateful to be able to understand others’ struggles with it, too.
Your video shows you understand, too, and that we aren’t alone and didn’t fail...that it’s part of the process sometimes for some of us and that there’s hope 💚🌱💚

Hi Meg, thanks for your video and for sharing your experience. I too have asthma, that is allergic asthma from hay fever and very acute at the moment. I find it very distressing. I take medication against it, but there are days when I am very weak, like yesterday, I only had two meals and ate a banana in between. I have to prepare the meals very quickly, because I am a mother of three children 7, 5 and 2 years old and a wife. My family does not eat like me, so I still have to cook separately. Even though it is sometimes very stressful I am very grateful and glad I changed to this diet, I have not only lost weight but also feel much better than 73 days ago before I started.❤

I really appreciated your video today. I really want to get my weight back into my control again, it’s feeling like my weight is controlling me. I’ve been transitioning into a vegan lifestyle and I’m new to the plant based high nutrient density way of eating. Processed vegan food wasn’t working with me.
I think journaling my food and movement is a great idea.
Am I sabotaging myself adding sweetener into my coffee ☕️???

Meg you really rock this hair style! I suffer from severe hair loss (androgenic allopecia) and wear a wig because of that. If you were me you would just shave your head right? And skip the wig burdon. Which it is, because it’s uncomfortable, and painful. The clips pull my brittle hair. ☹️

    • @PlantFitMeg
      @PlantFitMeg  2 роки тому +2

Thank you, Angeline! I'm sorry to hear that you suffer from severe hair loss and have discomfort and pain with your wigs. I'm not sure whether I would shave it off or wear wigs if I was experiencing hair loss. 🤔 Losing your hair and choosing to chop it off are such different experiences. I only had a small taste of that when I lost my hair to chemo, and it was unexpected and very upsetting. During that time, I went back and forth between wearing wigs, walking around bald, or wearing head scarves and hats. It was kind of fun to shock people from day to day. It's such a personal decision, so whether you want to wear wigs or rock a no-hair look, do what will make you happy! ❤️
