Enjoyed this. Hopefully, when the gardens get a bit more established again the new plots won't be so severe.

Your views reflect my own thoughts about the new houses. Although I quite like their modern appearance, I can’t come to terms with the flat roofs. I enjoyed the video, which at times reminded me of videos made by John Betjeman

I don’t know who to blame. The architect or the owner. You were spot on likening this and the other similar one I feel, with an office building. As for the architect/owner, I’ve got my thoughts. They certainly made a statement but not a good one in my book.

Interesting musings, I enjoyed the video. I've had the same thoughts about modern airliners and (possibly to a lesser extent) modern cars; now that everything is designed with computers for optimal efficiency and profit margins, they all tend to look the much same, just with different badges. The planes and cars of old seemed to have far more character...

    Greetings from Maine
Hope you and your family are doing well. Haven't posted in a few months. My husband of 30 years passed away last September. Lung cancer. Just starting to recover and trying to be more social.
Well, I live near Houlton and will be viewing the total eclipse today. So many people.....😮

It's nice to hear your thoughts and opinions about new developments. I live in Gorleston as you know Ian , and the thing i like most is its lack of change . If i ever moved away for a period of time and then returned to find space invader flat tops all around and a beach full of shops and various entertainment enterprises all along the lower prom it would be heartbreaking. Gorleston is a place where people can come and then return to find it just the way they remember. Regarding the new homes , you took the words out of my mouth regarding number 50 , it certainly does look like it belongs on a industrial estate as an oil company office 😅 . Im sure theres another one gone up equally as office like at number 45 . I must say the ones towards the end of the video with the pitched roofs i don't mind , infact i feel they are very smart and more in keeping with the other older houses . A pleasure as always watching your video Ian B . And im so pleased you document these changes, as once something has gone it will truly be forgotten without such documentation.

You've got the British resistance to change outlook. Remember once this area was farmland and people would have stated that alp these ugly houses have been built on it. I do agree however, some of these replacements are very ugly and just big square functional boxes with little form.

The new modern property's will look stupid in 50 years the originals will look beautiful in 50 or 100 years still

I am a great admirer of our british countryside and traditional villages dotted across the country. But 'both' unfortunately and fortunately, the coastline (also open country plots) will always be a prime land for new 'modern' architecture.
People's lifestyles have changed over the years and an example of this would be the perspective of interior and exterior. Victorian homes are in high demand at a high cost. People want the exterior design elements of the original building but not the interior - because it has no purpose in 'most' families modern day living and needs. There are also those who want thier exteriors to mirror that of their interior design and architecture.
I remember growing up in Blackheath which is covered in grand traditional designed homes, and in between these homes is the former Cadbury family home. 'Ultra modern', angular, black slate and black one-way glass, (with a grand double circular stairway leading upto the entrance - a 'modern nod to its neighbouring dwellings staircases).
I remember has a young boy of 6/7 passing it on the way to the village shops, and standing back thinking how crazy and dominating it looked. But now 55 years on I realise that it's famous architect was a visionist of what was to come, and now looking at it, personally I think it has earned its 'rightful' place alongside the georgian mansions.
And no doubt in anther 55/100 years time, it too will be neighboured by 'even more' modern designed homes, making look 'old and traditional' by those who pass it.
Although I do agree with you regarding some of the 'badly' designed modern homes in your video that externally look like office buildings etc. But then i could also say this about what I personally see has bad modern architecture of their time , that being the ghastly art deco buildings that are found scattered along the UK coastlines.
The art of modern house architecture is ensuring they look like homes and not offices or prefabricated blocks on top of eachother.
PS: The Raleigh Chopper bike was also on my list!.

Its horrid. It looks like a social club from the 1970s. I prefer the other older houses.
