Jesus Christ Teaches How to Live the Higher Law | 3 Nephi 12-14

- Jesus Christ continues His teachings during His visitation to people of Ancient America. Jesus’ words reflect the Sermon on the Mount and the Beatitudes as found in the Gospel of Matthew 5 - 7.
The twelve disciples called by Jesus to minister are seated before the people as the Lord teaches His gospel. Jesus is shown walking among the multitude, emphasizing His doctrine.
3 Nephi 12: 3 - 16
3 Yea, blessed are the poor in spirit who come unto me, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
4 And again, blessed are all they that mourn, for they shall be comforted.
5 And blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth.
6 And blessed are all they who do hunger and thirst after righteousness, for they shall be filled with the Holy Ghost.
7 And blessed are the merciful, for they shall obtain mercy.
8 And blessed are all the pure in heart, for they shall see God.
9 And blessed are all the peacemakers, for they shall be called the children of God.
10 And blessed are all they who are persecuted for my name’s sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
11 And blessed are ye when men shall revile you and persecute, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake;
12 For ye shall have great joy and be exceedingly glad, for great shall be your reward in heaven; for so persecuted they the prophets who were before you.
13 Verily, verily, I say unto you, I give unto you to be the salt of the earth; but if the salt shall lose its savor wherewith shall the earth be salted? The salt shall be thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out and to be trodden under foot of men.
14 Verily, verily, I say unto you, I give unto you to be the light of this people. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hid.
15 Behold, do men light a candle and put it under a bushel? Nay, but on a candlestick, and it giveth light to all that are in the house;
16 Therefore let your light so shine before this people, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father who is in heaven.
3 Nephi 13: 1 - 13
1 Verily, verily, I say that I would that ye should do alms unto the poor; but take heed that ye do not your alms before men to be seen of them; otherwise ye have no reward of your Father who is in heaven.
2 Therefore, when ye shall do your alms do not sound a trumpet before you, as will hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may have glory of men. Verily I say unto you, they have their reward.
3 But when thou doest alms let not thy left hand know what thy right hand doeth;
4 That thine alms may be in secret; and thy Father who seeth in secret, himself shall reward thee openly.
5 And when thou prayest thou shalt not do as the hypocrites, for they love to pray, standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, they have their reward.
6 But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father who is in secret; and thy Father, who seeth in secret, shall reward thee openly.
7 But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen, for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking.
8 Be not ye therefore like unto them, for your Father knoweth what things ye have need of before ye ask him.
9 After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.
10 Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
11 And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.
12 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
13 For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.
3 Nephi 14: 1 - 8
1 And now it came to pass that when Jesus had spoken these words he turned again to the multitude, and did open his mouth unto them again, saying: Verily, verily, I say unto you, Judge not, that ye be not judged.
2 For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged; and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again.
3 And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother’s eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye?
4 Or how wilt thou say to thy brother: Let me pull the mote out of thine eye-and behold, a beam is in thine own eye?
5 Thou hypocrite, first cast the beam out of thine own eye; and then shalt thou see clearly to cast the mote out of thy brother’s eye.
6 Give not that which is holy unto the dogs, neither cast ye your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet, and turn again and rend you.
7 Ask, and it shall be given unto you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you.
8 For every one that asketh, receiveth; and he that seeketh, findeth; and to him that knocketh, it shall be opened.

This Jesus portrays love and radiates warmth!
Whenever I am not feeling well, or I am starting to feel anxiety, I like to read scriptures to feel grounded and relaxed. When I don’t know what to read these are the chapters I go to. The direct words of the Savior truly are a balm to the soul. Eternally grateful for them.
I cried and I'm not ashamed. These words I love them, I agree, the spirit was upon me when Jesus begun to talk.
I take solace in knowing that Christ teaches us today through his prophet the same things he taught to the people of Israel and the people in the Americas. He is the same yesterday, today, and forever.
So beautiful the book of Mormon is so powerful

I love the imagery of Jesus pointing out the buildings with that last analogy-I never thought about how those people had just had such a momentous experience with seeing how important a strong foundation is when storms come.

I know!! The too perfect white teeth, his voice, and overly groomed hair and brows were distracting at first for me but then I felt the spirit and began crying so I couldn't see him anyway. I'm looking forward to the rest of the videos.

I also loved the part where the Savior knelt down into dirt and when he stood up there wasn’t a speck of dirt on his robe.
My personal connection to Jesus Christ grew from this video. I felt the Holy Ghost witness of Jesus Christ's love for me.

well, those that were there did. They lived in peace, love, and righteousness for several generations for 200 years. It must have made a pretty powerful impact to pass on that level of christlike love. It's too bad they eventually had wickedness sink in here and there, and then take over.
These people followed. It was only when they decided to be proud of their riches and learning that they failed.

Well to be even more accurate they were both Euro Israelitish tribes, not Asiatic mongrel DNA tribes.
If it is like some of the other videos, it may have been filmed in Hawaii, so most of those people probably were taken from the Polynesian Cultural Center to participate. That is just a guess on my part.
Well we need to remember that the Nephites and Lamanites were one and the same, blood wise. They were all one big unhappy family. The dark vs light doesn’t mean skin color. It means good vs evil at this time. Kleon Scousen makes this very clear, through his studies of the old and ancients of the mid eastern peoples of that time. The color of their skins is a metaphor. In addition, the Nephites were the righteous who followed The Lord, and kept his commandments. While the Lamanites were the ones who rebelled against God. It was a political thing, at the time, not a skin color thing.
The description of the Nephites and Lamanites in the Book of Mormon shouldn't be taken at face value. It isn't likely that the Nephites were actually "white" like white Europeans, but more likely they may have simply been a lighter countenance. Most likely both Nephites and Lamanites were of a darker skin.
That bothered me too! Everyone is a Lamanite, including Nephi.
Wait just a minute....that can not be ALL of the gospel can it? What about baptizing of the dead? What about tithing? What about genealogy? Jesus forgot the most important parts of being a latter day saint.
I could feel the worthiness of this actor, as he himself a faithful member of the Church. I doesn't bother if his appearance doesn't fit well to portray the Christ.
Very good, though I have to agree with many others that this actor doesn't really portray Jesus very well. He would be good doing his own talk, but acting as Jesus probably isn't for him. I personally feel they should have brought the original actor who portrayed Jesus in the Bible videos back.
Just as there are several reasons for having multiple temple movies, there are several reasons for having multiple actors portray the Savior Jesus Christ. Every one of them that the church has chosen is someone that they have prayed about and considered. Every one of them portrays some aspect of Jesus Christ that the film committee, headed up by the apostles, have decided was the best one for the role.
I thought the original actor was incredible but he's probably too old for the role now.
But we really don’t know what Jesus looks like though. He could look and sound more like this guy. We don’t know. What’s most important is the message. But I do agree with maybe using the other guy who played Jesus in the bible videos
The actor in The Chosen, now he is the best actor I've seen portray Jesus.
You are missing the mark.
The video is great, but the costume for Jesus looks strange. The awkward V neck on the back and pointy shoulders are distracting.
Call me petty, picky, whatever, but Jesus isn't supposed to be robed in a ladies style dress, is he? It looks way too feminine, in my opinion. Other than that distraction I think it is well done. I like the intimacy between Jesus and the people, but that robe, just saying!
I don't mean to sound contentious, but this video should either be longer or be several videos and it should contain the whole teachings that Jesus gave not cut out parts that just happen to be more popular with people. I understand that divorce is very rampant today but Jesus' teachings regarding it must be made known not cut
It must be very difficult to capture the true wonder and glory of Jesus Christ and his ministry on the American continent. I so appreciate this effort and there is much I can take away from it. Thank you.
On the other hand, I do not understand why that outfit was chosen for Christ. Why is he wearing what looks like an awful, unflattering, angular and pinned v-neck and v-back woman’s dress?! I do not understand that choice at all. It’s so distracting and so hemmed in. It mirrors the set-like structures of the broken temple behind him. It just screams costume and set versus clothing and broken building. For me it is a failure.
I keep trying to love these videos and I’d just rather read The Book of Mormon itself. These are so distracting for me.
