Very much appreciated the video. The JD shop wanted to charge $400+ for the job since they insisted the back end needs to be dropped in order to replace the drive belts. My dad and I completed the job with the help of your video for the cost of the belt, and some busted knuckles. Thank you for taking the time to create the video... it was both entertaining and helpful.
Good thing I found this video. Never worked on a RX75 before but I had one come in my shop that needed belts. Boy you aren't a kidding when you say they are hard to work on. Any other mower is takes me maybe 20-30 minutes top to change out the belts. That thing took me around 4 hours of cussing and alot of beer.
Bless you Taryl ❤ !!!! Couldn't have done this without you! Had a 30yo RX95... never changed drive belts. Took a couple hours but I got er done. Thanks! 🤪😇
HAPPY 8TH BIRTHDAY to this awesome video! I used it 3 years ago for my mower deck belt, and again today - July of 2024 to do my variator drive belts. Job done, $$$ saved, skills learned! Taryl, YOU ARE THE MAN! I'd buy you a beer if you didn't live on the dag-blasted internet. 😁👍
I have to say a sincere thank you for this video. I was able to do this process with relatively few mistakes based on your guidance and thoroughness. Impressive to say the least. Thanks for saving me some money and time! Bravo!
I am French I own this tractor. I was able to fix it thanks to you. I ordered the primary and secondary belts through your references in the USA. they are of very good quality. I just have the brake to repair, a pad and fell with the two small cylinders. Thanks for your help, it was really helpful! moreover I laughed a lot with the beers. good for you
Hey Taryl, Thanks for the video! I'm working on a John Deere RX63 (old dude) my father in law gave me 20 years ago. I used it for a while till a drive belt broke. I tried to fix it by raising the rear end with a block and tackle rig but it was too hard to work on like that. It's been sitting under the house for 6 or 7 years and I decided to fix her up to use at my 95 y.o. dads house after seeing your video. He uses a cane now and can"t mow so I'm hoping to use it here in Fla. It's a lot like the RX75 so your video is a masterpiece for guidance. I took the deck down yesterday and ordered new belts but they won't be here for a week. The back tires dry rotted so I have new AG tires to put on the back while I'm waiting for belts to come in. I watched your video on changing tires with the mini tire changer from Harbor Freight. I have one and going to mount it to my workbench today. It'll come in handy since I have a small boat trailer, another mower (3 wheel Ride King) and hand trucks/wheelbarrows! That video was great too! Thanks again, Dale
This mower is a pain to work on and makes me want to sell it. But thanks to your video, I was able to replace the deck belt and a pulley with a bad bearing. This might help someone - what I did with the deck pins was take a sharpie and mark which way the hole is positioned on the side. Makes it less tricky.
WOW!!....learned somethin' there. Not too sure exactly what, need to replay it again and try to focus...LOL Another great episode, you guys are the best! Cheers!!
Excellent, Gnarly Baha Muffkin Scar you got there, Taryl! Yes. I am currently going from Oldest to Newest. Hope to be finished by the end of February. Can't wait to see the end of the Slip-Sears build!
Thanks Taryl, great video. This helped more than you know. Today I changed the drive & deck belts on a John Deere GX95…..what a PITA to work on. I also installed the AM 107421 starter relay. Oil change tomorrow morning and she’s down the road. On to the next one!
This HAS to rank high on my list of all time weird, and scarily oddball, but incredibly helpful videos. Thanks for... well, the offbeat sense of humor. I'm sure preforming this maintenance WAS like a visit to the dentist's office.
I was climbing the walls trying to get the mower belt on the front sheave of RX95 and finally saw your video forcing the belt on while pulling on the arm and rotating the mower blade! Boom - its on. I actually tied the spring loaded brake are away with a chunk of rope so I could force the belt through with both hands! Thx!
Just put new deck and drive belts on a GX 85. This video was a nice primer. I put several replacement pulleys in too. Glad it was the gear drive model.
great video mr. taryl i really enjoyed this video very much i really want to learn all i can on repairing mowers and 2cycle engines thank you guys for taking the time to make great videos have a great week.
You make is look so easy; but, it was a royal pain to do it. Something that you knocked out quickly, took me 6 hours because the genuine belts I ordered were wrong. In addition, the mower belt was wrong too, as mine has the 38" deck. I'm not complaining, as it was given to me for free, but wow was it difficult. Still not done, as when I went to check that the deck belt was working properly, it wouldn't start up. I suspect it's the relay switch, but that will wait till tomorrow. Thanks again for putting out a funny and informative self help video.
I just bought a 1988 rx95 and I have all three belts to change! I better grab a 12 pack first. After watching your video 4 times I think I might just be able to do this.
Brilliant, so well explained that even I could understand it. Thank you so much for the time and effort you put in for people like myself. Took me about 8 times longer than the video but maybe I shouldn't have followed the beer instructions ;-) Take care
I dont mean to be offtopic but does someone know a tool to log back into an instagram account..? I stupidly lost my password. I would love any assistance you can give me!
@Briar Alaric I really appreciate your reply. I found the site thru google and I'm waiting for the hacking stuff atm. I see it takes quite some time so I will reply here later with my results.
Great video! Compared to other mowers, I’ve worked on, this thing was easy, and man is a cool mower, I got it on trade for another mower plus cash and I love it, very well-made
Funny short story of my own. I watched this video about two months ago and was like damn.. That's a tough job.. Couple weeks later my dad bought one. Runs great and cuts great. Problem is... It kicks off the primary every once in a great while.. Deck kicked off once too so far. So guess what.. I watched it again because guess what I'll be doing soon. You got it, this is my dinner! Thanks Tary'l and Jr. You guys are awesome! Lol. 👊👍
You’re correct I used aftermarket belts in my mower and it hardly moved forward or backwards. Bought the John Deere belts in your video works perfect now. Very informative video thank you
Just replaced all my belts on my RX73 using your video. Even with the great tips it was still a MFer LOL. I got lucky all my bearings and idlers were in great shape and am I ever glad! That idler above the transaxle for the primarty belt looks like it would be a total bastard to get off. Only way I could see to do it would be lower the transaxle a couple inches, a job for a much cooler day when the time does come. Anyway, thanks for the great tips, you saved me a fair amount of blood loss.
video was goofy but but informative and the info was right on track, Got my deck belts fixed in about 1hr 45 min. At 51 with a torn rotator cuff waiting for surgery in 2 weeks it wasnt too bad. Thanks for the video. Made a couple mistakes and had a wrong pin in the deck that cost me some time. Otherwise sailed through pretty easy after watching the vid.
Well, it certainly looks like this is going to be a pain in the keister, as you put it, but I've changed the starter and all, so just a little more involved than some of that stuff. Thanks for such a detailed and amusing video! Ordering the belts and will let ya know how it goes.
I've ended up in the dentists chair in that condition more than once. Took twenty men with pick and shovel to extract my tooth. Had to hire a cheap lawyer afterwards. (Sorry, too many Stooges references there). Changing those drive belts sure is a knuckle buster, on top of having to jerk off another mower deck. Glad there was a happy ending. Changed the belts on my J.D. last fall. Almost as painful as visiting the dentist. Thanks for another funny, educational video!
Thank you very much followed every step by step and Got her done Correctly thank you very much I didn’t know how to tackle it now I know I enjoy the tutorial how to do it and love the comedy with it thank you guys keep it up
Those little riding mowers are hard to work on. I have an R70 and it looks similar to that one. Great video again. We haven't had any real rainfall in so long over here that all my grass is dead!
Great video , couldn't have changed the belts without your help . I changed the belts 2 weeks ago , used the mower twice and saw that the secondary belt has several cracks on it's inside surface . What would cause this ?
Great video. I could add that removing the left rear wheel gives you more room. Also, removing the spring for the secondary belt idler pulley is safer. Using an automotive drum brake spring tool works fine for removing and reinstalling the spring. A lot safer than shown in the video.
Taryl, you are pure genius!! You crack me up then you teach me a ton! My only complaint is you make it look to damn easy!!! How long you been doing this here motor thing? Thanks for all your work!!
Thank you in advance August 30 2024 after two years of finding parts i now have a rx 73 running cutting grass i will have to do the drive belts may be drop the transmission and re grease it 37 year old mower cuts grass perfectly and greetings from Northeastern Alberta Canada peace and love
stumped. I have a stihl hs45 gas hedge trimmer and it's really hard to.pull..if I take the plug out its really easy..any suggestions ? thank you and yes the spark arrestor is clean
gotta battery drain issue on a rx95. theses are a pain to work on, did a carb on a rx75 and it was a great mower but thats befor i knew about taryls vids been lovin em
I had a battery drain issue too! After much ado, I found online it was a simple drain prevention harness that was added in munutes and have not had a problem since! Unfortunately, the shop had replaced hundreds of $$ in parts before I finally discovered the solution! Search online and you'll find it.
Picked up an RX75 today and someone took out a pulley for the drive belt because it was seized. Is there a pulley that attaches with a long bolt and metal spacer that goes through the left side drive axle from top to bottom? I believe I can see it in your video.
Is this the same as the sx85 more I really appreciate your help I've been watching you since I got my lawnmower Hope you can get my answer to me amor I got was in that kind of shape with somebody went to work on it and quit it since I've been tinkering forever I'm 64 years old I just enjoy working on stuff but your health is been fantastic brother hope to hear from you
I was walking my dogs and using the voice text so sorry if the words are skewed but I think you can get it you're a very smart guy and pretty handsome we got similar teeth bro
Can’t thank y’all enough for putting together this video, made changing my RX75 primary belt so much easier.
Very much appreciated the video. The JD shop wanted to charge $400+ for the job since they insisted the back end needs to be dropped in order to replace the drive belts. You’re an awesome guy. Thank you for making this video entertaining and informative my hats off to you.
I have to say a sincere thank you for this video. I was able to do this process with relatively few mistakes based on your guidance and thoroughness. Impressive to say the least. Thanks for saving me some money and time! Bravo!
Just brilliant.
Best dentist on all of UA-cam. You can tell by his workmanship!

nice to watch Taryl's videos and laugh afters a hard day in my shop
What a pleasant surprise when I turned the video on and got a great laugh and good advice fixing my mower.
I was climbing the walls trying to get the mower belt on the front sheave of RX95 and finally saw your video forcing the belt on while pulling on the arm and rotating the mower blade! Boom - its on. Thanks Taryl for this awesome vid, I've got an SX95 and this is exactly the help I needed!
Man, this video is reference material! Thank you! Subscribed as well.

I agree, this job is a "Pain in the keister" but this video was a great help. I successfully changed all of the belts on my SRX75. Thank you.
You make is look so easy; but, it was a royal pain to do it. Something that you knocked out quickly, took me 6 hours because the genuine belts I ordered were wrong. Thank you Taryl! I was able to figure out how to get both of my drive belts back on when I changed out my transmission out last week

Great Video, very helpful. Anyone have a manual for this mower or know where to find it? Having Trouble getting one. Cheers
earned your money on this one.
Great video. I could add that removing the left rear wheel gives you more room. Also, removing the spring for the secondary belt idler pulley is safer. Using an automotive drum brake spring tool works fine for removing and reinstalling the spring. A lot safer than shown in the video.
I thought about removing the back wheels too but haven't gotten that far yet. Waiting for belts to come in!
does the 1/2x63 belt fit a sx75?? my belt seems to have a bit too much slack
Which belt is the driven belt for tractor to run. Primary or secondary?

Picked up an RX75 today and someone took out a pulley for the drive belt because it was seized. Is there a pulley that attaches with a long bolt and metal spacer that goes through the left side drive axle from top to bottom? I believe I can see it in your video.
There is. The primary belt goes around that one.

is there a way to put the mower deck belt on the back mower pulley without removing it from the deck? Or do i have to remove it from the deck?
LMAO.... one of the best. Great job too. Keep up the good work & video
Bearing for big pulley on deck, what part number did you use?
