    My Channel is all about Warhammer 40,000 and is mainly a Necron Channel. The content on it will include 40k Battle Reports, Army Lists, Conversions, Magnetising tutorials, Painting tutorials, 40k Tactics and lots of General Hobby Tips. I have been into the hobby since 2002 and my first and largest army is Necrons and I cover all things Necrons, including Necron tactics and Tips. I also have an Eldar army, Dark Eldar army, a Tyranid army and a Space Wolves army. I'm currently working on a new Slaanesh based Emperor's Children army, but that is on hold atm as I work on the New Necron Miniatures for 9th Edition Necrons. I upload videos every week.

    I finally got one of these plastic monsters. I bought it for myself for Christmas.
    Now I need to find the correct size N52 magnets and re-watch this video about a dozen times. Can't wait! Thanks for the inspiration Nick.

    just finished building mine like this. worked a treat. made some minor changes because i was working with different sized magnets, but it still came together. a couple things i'll say:
    1) as you mentioned, the base of the c'tan prison doesnt need to be glued in because it already fits tightly onto the stem. so instead of doing more magnets on the 'head' of the prison, so that you can get inside of it, i just assembled the whole thing. then, i can take the entire prison off its stem when i need to. i had to jury rig a flying base to hold it up when its on its own, but that wasnt hard.
    2) when its in the tesseract vault formation, the panels _do_ stay up decently enough, but theres still too much wobble for my liking. so next im going to magnetize some support pieces that will connect each panel together, closer to the top. then it should be perfect. and i can use the leftover bits and scarabs from the sprues to make the supports look like reforming necrodermis.
    anyway, thanks for the great design!

Making it a lot less daunting, I wouldn't know where to start magnetising a model like this. I think I will pass this video on to my brother so he can start rebuilding his vault, after my storm surge D'd it to oblivion. Lol!

    Oh wow! Its awesome to see you made an instructional video as you did it for magnetising this awesome kit!! I magnetised mine soon as it was released and it's nice to see we had pretty much the same thought processes about where to do it, except I didn't have confidence in my ability to successfully do option 2, I went with a variation of your option 3 by cutting out a disc shaped hole, then making a green stuff mould of a section of the inner wall, then using that as a press mould for green stuff to cover it instead of plasticard. Worked just as good though! I also didn't magnetise my C'tan, as I felt no need to at the time... Except I broke the stem in the video I made so I'll likely be doing it anyway! (yes, even 4 years later, I haven't finished the model, it's semi painted xD )We did use the same size magnets, and also cut out exactly the same places and magnetised the same parts/sections! Its kind of obvious where it really needs it though.
    I also took (and credited!) inspiration from you, on how I introduced myself in the video, I'm not exactly confident at this kind of thing. Also, your video is much better quality annnnd it shows how to do it step by step! Brought back memories of the pain it was scraping out the plastic on those Y-beams and supports attached to it!Makes me want to finish painting mine now! Good job Nick!

      IDICBeer 40k I think it's great how you've ran through every bit that needs magnetising clearly, and you even managed to scrape away the plastic just deep enough for the corner sections! Have you painted this now by any chance? Do you have Flickr or something where you post pictures?

    Having had this model now for a while, are there things you would have done differently in the magnetization? Perhaps stronger, attached them differently? It's a beast of a model and not necessarily easy to predict how well the magnetization will work. And great job! I'm watching it again and again as I work with my vault.

    • @IDICBeer
      @IDICBeer  7 років тому

      I have not had any issues with it yet, so nothing I would change really, it's a tough kit to make interchangeable, but I can't see there's too much more that can be done

      Thanks for the quick reply. I have a bunch of 1.5mm x 0.5mm really thin magnets that I was considering lining the torn edges with to make the Obelix form stay tighter, but I am not sure if they can generate enough pull to make it worthwhile.

    Could you use a pin vise instead of a hobby knife for some of those holes/excavations? It seems like an easier way to go about it in some of those places, but I'm unsure if there's some issue I'm unaware of that would make it a bad idea.

    • @IDICBeer

      It's probably a bit thin for a drill piece as they usually are not flat when drilling as the drill piece has a poiint. You could try it though

    Great video, but I have a question, I have a lot of magnets that are 3x1mm or 5x2mm (and even 10x2mm) which would you recommend me to use for doing the same type of magnetise job?
    Because I fear that my 3x1mm will not be strong enough and the 5x2mm will be to thick ☹

    • @IDICBeer
      @IDICBeer  7 років тому

      Hi dude, what rating are the magnets you have? I wouldn't use anything less than N45, although N52 is the best. N38. You will find the 5x2mm magnets will be to thick to get into some of the joints. Might be worth looking at getting some 5x1mm if you can
