I love how well you explained "remove the blade cover" and didn't leave me to feel confused and frustrated for 20 minutes. 😡
I took mine back to Poundland saying the blade was missing, slightly embarrassing 😆
Lol your frustration ended up helping me, so thank you.
Sigh...me too 🤣🤣🤣
This was morw helpful than the video
I will admit I've done the same thing
So far, 1.4 million people are more frustrated after having watched/listened to this video. "Remove the blade cover" would have saved an hour of my life.
Thank you for commenting this! It helped me a ton.
From the bottom of my heart, thank you.
saved my life!
you're a real one
YES!!!
OMG Duckbrand, I’ve been looking at this idiotic gun for 10 minutes and watching your video and was only able to figure this out thanks to the comments! PLEASE do every frustrated packer a favor and change the video to show that we have to remove the little black plastic cover on the blade! I’ve been looking for the blade for 10 min and finally figured it out after reading the comments!
OMG I would have lost my mind if I had not seen this comment - thank you!
If the thing that is supposed to cut is covered i feel like its common sense and maybe they assumed people had common sense. Definitely a bad choice on their part xD
LMAOOO thank you😂😂😂🤣😆😭
Thank you SO much because I was getting super p•••••! Lol!
thank you, you're a life saver!!!!
Glad that y'all mentioned the blade cover ! I thought I had a different gun. Duh.
Grrreeeaaatttt video.... really helpful. Make sure to take the cover off the blade. If not, you will be vvv confused.
Katie Gerhard thank you for this comment lol. I was very very confused
Thanks for that comment because I was still confused...seriously
Thanks for the tip, I was one of the confused ones lol
Omigosh, thank you. & I'm in Mensa.. duh.
Thank you thank you thank you and curses to the Duck brand for including no instructions with the gun and even having the video leave out a key part.
Thank you soo much for slowing down, pausing, and CLEARLY showing what you were doing. I watched several that went so fast and didn’t clearly show how to do this before I founded your video.
I'm glad this video exists. I had no clue how the gun worked and it doesn't come with instructions.
I wanna reiterate how thankful I am as watching your youtube!
Thanks for the refresher, I just bought one of your tape guns and couldn't remember how to load it. Perfect tape laying though, just like old times!
I like when the logo move
Ty my parents had one setup wrong for yrs finally got it right 😃
I purchased this tape dispenser at Lowe's - I'm a farmer of mechanical ability & studyed the design of this gun & unless mine is missing some parts can see noway for this device to operate properly - Must be some crack heads at this companies design / engineer Dept responsible for this design! Hey wait till after work to get high - Just mind blowing how Large box store would sell junk like this!
It would help if you showed us which way to hold the gun, and when we’re putting the roll of tape on the gun which direction the sticky tape should pull off the gun so that we’re loading it on the gun in the right direction.
Does the clear plastic piece stay on? The tape just flops around and doesn't lay flat. Clearly I have not figured this out but the video was only helpful as far as getting the tape through the metal gate. I cannot figure out how to actually USE it. I've had tape dispensers before that worked fine. This is garbage!
Durden Christi i agree
Thank you for your question, Durden. Yes the clear plastic piece stays on, as this is the safety guard. Once the tape is under the roller, then you apply the end of the tape to your box. If you have not already done so, you need to remove the cap to expose the blades.
After wasting half a roll of packing tape and using all the curse words I know in one breath, I finally found this video. Thank you!!!!
Thanks duck brand ❤️
Haha this helped me load a different name brand tape gun! Greatly appreciated, I bought duck brand tape though! LOL
Amazing. Wish I watched before I struggled for 10 minutes lol
Thanks. Just what I needed. Very clear.
So what are my options if the tape gun untightens the tensioner wheel every time it's used? I can't turn down the hex bolt to lock the wheel in place, and the gun loses all tension about halfway through a single 12-inch box, needing tightened again. It's a real pain and it makes me wonder why I wasted $10 on a tape dispenser that doesn't function as designed.
Hi Luke, We are sorry to hear about your tape dispenser! This is certainly not normal. Was the tape gun purchased recently?
I just brought this tape & the instructions aren't working. When I try to break the tape, it doesn't break. It just keeps getting longer. I've tightened the tape & still no luck.
Hey A.N.G.! We have a few different designs. If the teeth don't come out when you push back on the clear plastic safety guard, there might be a blade cover that needs to be removed. Hope this helps!
Thank you for the video. I had no idea how to load it but one it was done it worked fine for me.
I'd have been here all night if it wasn't for the COMMENTS...!
UA-cam be the shyt for info!!! All my life I was loading the tape the wrong way 🤦🏽♀️ What a struggle until now.... thanks a million!!!
I can’t believe a Tape Brand has thousands more subscribers than me
Thank you so much for this video!
Again, would have been super helpful if you could have mentioned the cover on the blade. It isn’t as obvious as you’d think.
Works great for me, thanks!
You’ve gotta tighten that spring way down because the blade is too dull compared to the strength of the tape and it just wants to unwind. Serrated Blade needs to be way sharper.
Sweet! Saved me some time :)
Explain why I have to rethread the tape after every use? What can be done?
Hi Tom,
Tape dispensers are designed to keep tape from falling back on the roll. Make sure you have the adhesive side down, so that after cutting the tape, the adhesive side of the tape catches on the two feet below it. This should prevent the tape from falling back onto the roll.
@@theduckbrand of course the adhesive side is down. I've used tape guns before.
Sticky side down....on the roller?
Thanks so much. I NEVER would have worked that out for myself !
blade is dull and takes a lot of effort to cut. can the blade be changed and if so where can I get one and need instructions
Hi Joan, Unfortunately, we do not have replacement parts available; however, please send an email to askus@shurtech.com with case number 975823 in the subject line for assistance.
Thank goodness for UA-cam!!! 😂
Thanks this really helped
Awesome, glad to hear it!
Nice edit ;)
What if the tape get's stuck in the metal part under the roller?
The metal part under the roller keeps the tape from rolling back to the roll. You should be able to peel the tape off of the metal part.
Bring it back to Walmart
I was sitting here puzzled like how do I cut the tape. Whole time there was a cover over the blade 😅
This sucks - which direction does the tape go in? I shouldn’t have to slow it down and replay it 20 times to this figure it out.
If it weren’t for the comments telling me to remove the black blade cover....geez. And to do that, just pull the black cover straight out. Thanks, everybody.
yes, sure would have helped and saved me 30 minutes of feeling like an idiot by saying "remove the blade cover".
Mad that people need telling to take a guard off and can’t just figure that out themselves 😅
I don't see how anyone can thumbs down this video straight forward step by step instructions thanks for the upload!
I’ll try posting this again. This is a link to another video showing how to load a tape gun. It just has a few steps extra in it that aren’t included in the video above, and if you’re like me you need those few extra steps. I know the poster meant well and I’m sure she’s helped a lot of people, but some of us need a little extra attention.

I agree with numerous other viewers and wish I had read the comments after the first try to load and use. It isn’t going to work unless you take the plastic guard off of the blade! Pretty sorry video that doesn’t mention that key fact. Even after loading it properly the blade doesn’t make a clean cut. Easier doing it all by hand without this device.
Thank you for the feedback, Thomas! We have passed your comments on to our team.
Does not CUT!! Please show how it is supposed to cut itself or do I need a scissors each time??
There is a black or grey plastic cover protecting the blade that needs to be removed.
They forgot to tell you to pull the guard off of the teeth.
please remake this and how me how to remove the guard. I had to come to youtube to watch a video on how to use this tape dispenser. Ughhhh
Said nothing about a blade cover and I wasted so much tape not knowing what I was doing wrong until I read the comments.
This almost got returned because it appeared I was missing the blade! Seriously, include INSTRUCTIONS!
Horrible. How do you fit your fingers under the roller... Will be bringing back to lowes
I agree with Hanks, NOT easy , tape sticks to machine, it wastes a lot of tape just to get tape on machine. Much easier to forget the machine. Just buy tape and forget buying a pricey machine it sucks
Jesus Christ thank you.
I’m a real dummy I took th screw out of the gun and now I can’t get it back together
You neglected the part about uncovering the blade! Instead of saying, thanks, we'll put it in the next video, explain it here. Also mine doesn't have as much space between the roller and the metal thing, so very hard to get tape through--it sticks. I wouldn't buy this product again. And, by the way, these instructions should be included in the package--you shouldn't have to wade through youtube videos to find it.
Thank you for your feedback, Lynn! We really appreciate your comments, and we have forwarded them to our marketing team.
same here. I wouldn't buy this product again.
I think I waste my money, it happened to me also, the tape sticks to the metal every time I put down , I will return it.
It's not real clear. You need to be much clearer on where the sticky side is at each phase.
Too fast of a video, not helpful at all!
You can slow the playback in the video settings
Anyone else feel dumb for having to watch this
Got this over Scotch's version for the price. I got it to work but the roller is super slippery and wastes a lot of tape. Next time I'll just pay more for a better made design. For simple stuff this is ok, but for business where every penny matters this is a no.
Hi Alex, We are sorry you were unhappy with our tape gun. There is an adjustable tension knob on the hub where the tape goes on that controls the speed and effort needed to unroll the tape.
I sat here for 30 minutes about to throw it through a wall until I found the blade cover that needed to be removed.
This is a much better demo. I could not do it by the video above. Obviously she meant well but she just missed a couple of important steps.
ua-cam.com/video/aQFymMqDAqE/v-deo.htmlsi=sJPfAEGo80LK3kFG
so is there a conspiracy into why my tape machine done workl
HERE'S A HELPFUL VIDEO WHICH SHOWS HOW TO LOAD TAPE... ua-cam.com/video/k762Lo7q0eI/v-deo.html
Fix this video to include REMOVE THE BLADE COVER!!!
That music is just to mock us, isn't it?
Worst dispenser ever made. Buyer beware!
Honestly guys, it's not that hard at all ...
after 35 attempts.
Somehow this, and rolling your comforter in a duvet, just breaks the laws of the universe.
no..
Why do you continue to show this video which is incomplete and confusing? No where do you show that removing the blade guard is is an important and critical!
How do you people not see the cover on the blade? Did u really think a piece of black plastic was gonna magically cut the tape? Really? You didnt investigate it and see its a cover? Hm. Wow..
Unclear instructions, accidentally made myself to be a homeless...
☹
Not very helpful at the very point I needed to know where to put the tape!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Happy music, words flashing quickly on the screen and motion stops in totally useless places 👎🏽👎🏽. Just spend 1 minute explaining how to do it with coherent words. If you just have to have music, play it quietly in the background.
who else is here because the Scotch tape instructional video is so bad?!
The Scotch brand needs to take a page out of your book. Their video is useless and I now stick with Duck brand!!
It's incredibly sad that this tutorial was even necessary. What's next? A tutorial on how to breathe?😂😂😂😂
Ok. Cover everything with hands so nobody can follow...
Better yet. Get a grownup with a mechanical aptitude to do it for you.
Terrible video. Doesn't explicitly state which way to face tape which is the whole point of confusion smh
Bad video. Cut the music, show more details.
Pretty useless vid. Didn't say anything about removing the guard and they should have said 'sticky side facing OUTWARDS' instead of DOWN. Outwards is clearer I think. Ended up using a wikihow link instead.
Of course this crappy tape brand forgets to include a step.
Very poor design. It does not work properly.
I did not find this video helpful at all.
What the…? Thanks for nothing.
not helpful
👋, you should include the step for removing the blade cover. 😖
You should have included the step where you have to take off the blade cover.
OMG! HELLO..YES, leaving out the part regarding the blade guard, lost me about half my tape & almost my religion😥🍷
Yes, caught me there too.
Your comment was what I needed.
Totally agree with others about including removing the black plastic blade cover, I figured it out, but still HELLO !! I don't understand why instructions didn't come with the tape gun dispenser. Oh well I got this now🙄
thank you for letting people know this. I couldn't figure out why my tape wouldn't rip!
you don't show the step where you take the guard off the blade that comes on it to get it to cut!! I finally figured that out. Thanks
Sorry about that, Donna. We'll be sure to share your feedback with our team for future videos.
Can you explain how to remove the guard
That is indeed how you load it. Now please explain how to make it work without the tape slipping out of the place you put it? Every single time it is used(every tape strip!) you need to reload the tape like shown here. It does not stay where it should. I am thinking it's because of the very cheap design... Even cheaper than shown here, they have made them worse now. Will definitely be returning this, it's way easier to do by hand than use this thing.
We're sorry to hear you're having trouble with your tape gun. We will be sure to share your feedback with our team. If you'd like to speak with our team directly for help, please give us a call at 1-800-321-0253 or email askus@shurtech.com. Thanks!
Thanks so much for your tutorial! I made it harder than it is! I was trying to thread the tape through the dispenser!!!!😂🤣🤪😝😜
deborah nail me too! 🤣
Me too!! Duhhhhhhh
Same
What does threading tape through dispenser means?
I love how this video pauses on the simplest instructions, like how to press down or turn left to loosen...but doesn't clearly show how to insert the tape OR even tell you to take the guard off.
That said, mine is working great now that I read the comments from people who were way more helpful than this video with its stupid upbeat music 😂
728,773 views. We're all doomed.
to cut the tape without it recoiling back into the roll, tilt it a little to one side and push down a little so it cuts left to right instead of just pushing down and cutting the whole thing at once. its like this for all tape guns.
Hi...plz reply to the following pointwise:
1. For traditional tape dispensers only inner diameter(core diametre) of roll matters whereas for handheld tape dispensers, both the inner as well as outer (tape length) matter as if outer diameter is too large it will stuck in other parts..right?. .so what is the common inner and outer diametre for handheld dispenser?..also when we search one online, it only generally talks about tape width (2''/3" etc). Why doesnt it talk about diametre also when it also matters...
2. Why does the tape roll back, I mean if we use it so it will stick..right..so how/why does it roll back..?
Traditionally the tape rolls for tape guns are on 3" diameter cores. If the tape is rolling back after cutting, tighten the red tension knob to get a snugger fit on the core of the tape.
Your video helped me tremendously. They put all the shield on there to throw you off. lol I know the cover is there for safety and I found it very quickly but, I feel like a dummy after I saw how easy it was to load. Thank you
It has actually worked well for me after realizing I needed to remove the guard, and teaching myself how to use it effectively. The blades are cutting well.
How the heck do you remove the plastic guard? Why would you not include instructions on the packaging? Epic fail.
HI Kim, The plastic guard is not removable.
It's a small think black attachment that you have to remove to expose blade!
Jeannie Lee omg THANK YOU , wasted half a roll of tape though. Duck brand never mentioned that one time in the comments.
@@mariag5084
YES! Duck brand never mentioned that we have to remove black blade guard . i am also wasted half a roll of tape.
Duck Brand you really sounded STUPID with that comment saying the blade guard isn't removable....Yes it is REMOVABLE!!!!
All of these no matter what brand don’t work at all. The tape never just cuts, you’re literally better off throwing away the dispenser and using scissors! I just got one of these idiotic things too and yet again you’d think the blade was a butter knife because it won’t cut the tape at all. The best dispensers are the simplest, why aren’t they easier to find?! It’s a roll of tape with the tiniest case around it and the blade right next to the tape. They just work, no messing around. This thing is a lesson in annoyance.
