@Cheyenne-yv3zw In many of the 1A videos I've watched, it seems MOST COPS act instinctual anyway no matter what state they pull you over in. So it's ALWAYS DANGEROUS when dealing with the cops. They are so afraid of everyone every time they contact people who, they think are doing something SUSPICIOUS and they are already "on allert " and afraid. 🤬
I've met several cops and when in high school, there was a police training academy there for those interested in signing up after high school. There were a few nice, stand up dudes in there, but a majority were the bullies. Why were they there? Because they had behavioral problems & their parents wanted them to be straightened out. All they learned was to be better disciplined at bullying.
So I was recently pulled over and notified the Trooper I was carrying. He responded I know and if I don't show him mine, He wouldn't show me his. Now I have 17yrs of Law Enforcement experience, and have done thousand's of traffic stops, this is the best response I have ever ever heard. I didn't have a problem. Big thanks to the Texas Trooper that told me that. Huge respect for his response. Wish I had heard this while I was a traffic cop. It saved all the other questions, like where is it? Telling the person to keep there hands visible and always worrying where is the gun or pulling them out and disarming them, something I was NEVER a fan of. He made his point clear from the fist few words we exchanged. Good job Texas Troopers!!!!
@@steveladner4346 All they have to do is state they thought they smelled, saw, heard, magically divined, or even imagined the person had a gun and they feared they might use it. A cop can literally imagine you have a gun and it is a valid defence for them shooting you. I am not kidding. Go read the law governing the sorts of things that constitute a get out of jail free card for a police officer murdering somebody. We had a case where I live where a cop shot some poor guy multiple times because he imagined the cellphone in his hand was a gun. In another incident it was a hair brush, and in another it was nothing at all. In each case the cop walked away with nothing but a paid vacation while the police investigated themselves to ensure everything was on the up and up and they did nothing wrong. Can you imagine what would happen to you if you told the cops or the judge you were innocent because while you were taking a walk in the park and you emptied your 9mm into some guy's face while he was texting his daughter because you mistook his Iphone for a Glock 19?" I assure you that you would not be getting the same nice paid vacation that the officer where I live did. Your vacation would be unpaid, about twenty years long, and the destination will be a concrete and steel cage along with Bubba, your new bestie and roommate who has a taste for tossed salad.

@@tiggerthemighty8279 You can't right a law to nullify aright. You need to amend the constitution to say your right to remain silent is superseded by laws before it can be done.
I have a carry permit and I live in a state that does not require disclosure. In fact they just passed a law that makes "constitutional carry" by everyone legal. I will never tell a cop that I am carrying. I don't answer questions because I exercise my 5th Amendment rights.
Apparently, you're not a 2A guy who carries! If I'm carrying in my car, it's in my door pocket or in my center console! BTW sir, your less likely to be a victim if you do carry!
Many states have permitless carry / Constitutional carry: Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maine, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Mexico, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Vermont, West Virginia, and Wyoming.
Good point! Stay business like, not friendly. Some may take this as weakness. Who knows what the percentage is, but many find this vocation to satisfy their power hungry demeanors.
@@mybrother1350My most feared scenario that prevents me from carrying is this exact situation, being pulled over by a cop and them drawing their weapon on me for no other reason. Like that’s a scarier scenario than encountering a criminal, not only do I risk being shot, I wouldn’t even be able to fight back since that would be a crime on my part, it’s a lose-lose situation. Cops have way too much power over us.
It’s absolutely a good idea to carry. You are your own first line of defense. You need to study laws a little more. Ohio removed its requirement to disclose about 2 years ago. Most cops around here encourage concealed carry. The 2 times that I have been pulled over while carrying I did inform at initial contact. Both times the cops attitude was like “good for you, I don’t care”.
You were lucky. Cop reaction to CCW varies with the officers. In general, rookies are more paranoid than experienced officers. However, the majority of cop shootings occur during traffic stops, and cops are fully aware of this. In general, if you are openly carrying they won't bother you - unless you are in communist states like New York or California.
There's always too much about officer safety, but not enough about citizens safety. We all know most cops are trigger happy, not all but most. Here in my state we have constitutional carry, and I also have a lifetime license to carry
@DioChavez went to police department did the paperwork and fingerprints then sent it to the state police. Of course I'm in Indiana so it may be different from where you live. Indiana is also constitutional carry and has been for a few years now, but I keep my license in case I go to another state that honors it
Officer safety is not a Law, yet. Judges have been reinforcing case law, but it's not a Law. You have a right to self defense, even from a police officer. (Plummer v State )
Perfectly explained. I’m a physician for over thirty years and when I listen to your explanations it makes me want to to go to law school and sit in a classroom and have professors teach me the law.great job.
Always record the interaction and always keep your answers terse and concise and always be respectful. A self respecting person will not allow themselves to be gaslighted, manipulated, or cast in an unfavorable light.
Here in Florida you do not have to disclose unless asked. I was advised by three different officers that I should not offer that information unless asked.
One time I had a concealed carry card (I am a good citizen TAX CARD). I provided the card with the drivers license (driving tax card) and the police officer drew down on me. ABSOLUTELY NO PROVOCATION! Do not talk to police!
Then the officer committed felony crimes in violation of Title 18 U.S.C. section 242 deprivation of rights under color of law the use, attempted use,or threatened use of a dangerous weapon, explosives, or fire shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than ten years,or both;
This is why I don't tell them shit. I have a console vault in my center console where I keep my gun. When I get pulled over I lock it so if for some reason they search my car they can't just open it
I got pulled over and had obvious signs of a firearm in my car, like targets with fresh holes from the range. The cop asked, "Do you have any weapons in the car?" I just looked at him with what was probably a stupid grin on my face and he said, "I don't really want to know, do I?" I said, "Yeah, probably better that way." I got a warning for speed and was on my way.

The state of Washington just passed a law stating that the police cannot ask you, "do you know why I pulled you over"? That question itself involves entrapment.
I just say, "Who among men knows the thoughts of a man except the spirit of the man that is in him?" It's better than saying "Do I look like I can read minds?" and leaves them rather confused as they try and figure out what was just said.
You say "never grab for a gun" - I'd expand that to "never grab for anything" around a cop. I appreciate these lessons. I'd love a "what to do if you're arrested" video. Like, I know I'm entitled to a lawyer but I don't have one now. Do I qualify for a free lawyer? I also assume there are landmines to cost you money or trouble if you don't do things correctly.
I’ve been pulled out ver twice with a gun in my car and I simply don’t tell them. It’s none of their business. I also don’t tell them I have a ham and cheese sandwich. I have no duty to to tell the police a thing. It’s my right to stay silent.
I’ve been stopped twice while carrying. The first time was over 30 years ago at night in Phoenix Az. I was relaxed, and told the officer I had a pistol. When the stop ended he said, “it’s a good thing you keep that handy. It will keep them from stealing the car right out from underneath you.” The second time was early in the morning in Fort Worth Tx. I turned on my dome light and lowered all of my windows. Again I was relaxed and respectful; and immediately informed him of my license to carry and my handgun. He actually acted appreciative, almost as though he thought, ‘this guy is on my side’. He let me go with a verbal for what, by all rights, should have been a very expensive ticket. Carrying a weapon is an insurance policy. It does you no good if you leave it at home the one time you need it.
Good officers know we're on their side. Concealed carriers are less likely to break the law than police officers. We're also likely to engage threats if the officer is attacked.

I have had many officers leave quickly without writing me a ticket after i informed them i was legally carrying. Only once did they take it and empty my chamber and magazine. I will never be disarmed like that again. I have a license for a reason. I now reply, for both our safety, it is better to leave out where it is !!! End of conversation !!!!!
Thank GOD we have constitutional carry in AZ and no requirement to notify the officer/s if stopped, though the one time I was stopped for broken tail lights I did inform and we spent 15 minutes talking guns while he admired my 1911.
Actually that's not correct. In Arizona if you have a contact with a law enforcement officer and the LEO asks if you have a firearms you're required by law to answer truthfully. In addition to turning on the dome light during a nighttime traffic stop, I suggest rolling down all four windows so the officer can clearly see what or who or no one is in the back seat. This would be good to do during a daytime traffic stop, too.

Ohio changed to, if you have a concealed carry permit, you only have to disclose you're carrying if they police ask. Otherwise you don't have to tell them
Ohio is a constitutional carry state now. You don't need a permit to carry which means you are not bound by an additional contract with the state. You do not have to inform an officer of didly sqwat.

Let's not forget the main reason for concealed carry while driving. It's not to screw with cops safety during a routine traffic stop. It's to protect yourself and your family against being hijacked, robbed, kidnapped, raped, road raged, etc. If you become involved (as a victim) in such criminal activity and you left your firearm at home, your only defense is to call the police (if you aren't dead), report the crime to the dispatcher, wait for 30 minutes or longer for the cops to arrive and file a police report. South Carolina, since March 7, 2024, H. 3594 - Constitutional Carry Guidance To Chiefs, Sheriffs, and Law Enforcement Officers This law is in effect immediately. • It allows individuals 18 years old and older to carry firearms openly or concealed without a permit. • There are no restrictions of guns inside vehicles. Guns can be stored anywhere inside the vehicle openly or concealed. • Possession of a firearm alone is NOT a reason to stop an individual. To make a stop, there must be reasonable and articulable suspicion a crime has occurred. Law enforcement officers cannot conduct a stop solely because a firearm is visible. • A CWP holder or a person carrying a firearm without a permit pursuant to this law DOES NOT have a duty to notify a law enforcement officer that they are carrying a firearm. • Insofar as there is no longer a CWP requirement, a CWP holder is not required to carry his/her CWP or disclose his/her status as a CWP holder to a law enforcement officer. So where ever you were sourcing your material, that material is wrong, and OUTDATED. H. 3594 - Constitutional Carry Guidance, Signed by Governor 3/7/24.
I live in the great state of North Carolina. when you have your CCW license here whether you are armed or not you are legally bound to verbally tell the officer. You have to show the officer your CCW permit and your driver's license at the same time. You are not legally bound to tell them if you're armed or not. I always do. I always ask how do you wish to handle this after I tell them where the weapon is located. Every single time they have said leave it there make sure your hands don't get near it. Yes Sir is my answer. Never had a problem.
I don't have a requirement to inform the officer I have a firearm. However, I always say "I have a concealed carry permit & I have a pistol holsted on my left hip". Then, I stop & let the officer tell me what to do. Also, I ALWAYS carry. I also turn off the engine, turn on dome light & keep my hands on the wheel. I also don't drink.

I am clean cut with short hair, polite, well spoken, and white…so I understand others may not have the same experience.
Back in 1994 I got pulled over and handed the officer my license and concealed carry license. He immediately pulled his weapon and told me to get out and get on the ground! He asked me where the weapon was I told him it was in my purse. He retrieved my weapon and asked if it were loaded and I said yes. He ejected the clip and ejected each round which he threw the 13 bullets and threw them in the backseat and told me I could reload my weapon when I got a mile down the road. @@Mrmajellan123 copies are completely legal to present during any traffic stops. As I stated " copies" in a holder on your visor is for your safety. Cops today are mentally unstable especially rookies and one reaching either for a wallet or going for the glovebox can and will get one "offed" in the name of "officers safety". For the safety of the citizenry it's in your best interest to have copies of all the needed documents easily reachable. Remember there is no law anywhere in the US that states that one must hand over the original documents. Also get said documents notarized for your peace of mind.
@herbthompson9530 you don't reach indiscriminately, that includes the visor. You inform the officer where your documents are and if you can get them. Also, if you switch vehicles, copies in the visor of the previous won't help.

Another thing that works to put the officer at ease is opening up all the windows so that when they walk up they can see no one's in the backseat. Additionally, put your hands on the steering wheel with emphasis on putting the hands in plain sight - forearm on the steering wheel so the right hand is visible and the left on the open window frame of the door. Weather permitting of course. I had a friend of mine who delayed pulling over so that he could pull into an overhang in a downpour. The officer asked why it took so long for him to pull over - an extra 15 or 20 seconds. He said I figured I've done anything wrong it might work in my favor if I pulled over someplace the rain wasn't drenching you. 😀 He got a warning instead of a ticket. The cop liked his thinking.
I keep the registration and proof of insurance in the glove box ...together in a plastic zip bag.....very easy to find and grip to pull out with two fingers. But I'm considering making additional copies and putting them on my drivers side sun visor... it'd be so much easier.
Right, When the plate is run the system tells the officer if the owner has a CPL. Be proactive and em first “I have a CPL” AND tell them if you do or do not have a weapon on that day. This video is chocked full of good advice and information.
Maine has two kinds of carry. Constitutional carry says you can carry a concealed weapon WITHOUT a permit. If you are carrying without a permit, you have a duty to disclose. If you DO have a permit, you do NOT have a duty to disclose.
Rule #1: NEVER ARGUE WITH THE COPS!!!! If you do, it will almost never go well for you. Never argue with the cops. You can have an attorney argue in court.
ABSOLUTELY WORTH IT. Exercise your freedoms or they will eventually be lost. You are your first responder. All what ifs with law enforcement can be mitigated by knowing how to interact while staying within the legal boundaries of the specific state you are in. In a life and death situtation or assault, you don't want the regret of I should have carried, but I didn't.
In Nevada, your CCW permit is linked to your driver’s permit. If you are asked if you are carrying you must answer truthfully and perhaps submit to a search to allow the officer to look for your piece. If you are not carrying, so state when asked.
Regardless of all the other coments this is absolute wisdom. Listen to this man. Once bullets leave a gun you cant call them back. Getting killed because you think your right or even if you absolutely are wont bring you back to life.
For me, when I am carrying, I am in, going to , or coming from an area that justifies my concerns to carry. I tick off a lot of conceal carry advocates for "not carrying every minute of the day". But I'm selective when I do carry. So yes, it is worth it. I have been pulled over before (medical condition known as race car-itis. Or heavy right foot LOL). I do a lot of the things you say. 1) Turn off the engine (I have to roll my windows down first as once the engine is off, I can't roll them down) 2) Turn on my dome lights. 3) Put both hands at 12 position on the steering wheel. 4) When they ask for license and registration I explain I would love to but my seat belt is keeping me from reaching the glove box. May I unbuckle to retrieve the registration? NEVER UNBUCKLE THE SEAT BELT UNTIL THEY GIVE YOU PERMISSION TO DO SO. I have only been asked once to get out of the car and by asking the officer how he'd like to have me exit the car so my right arm/hand never goes anywhere near the right hip, I've never had an issue. I can understand that not all officers appreciate or understand I am trying to keep "unwanted moves/surprises" from happening. Very fortunate the officers in my area do.
#22 on the last study I was able to dig up. Meanwhile, delivery driving is #6 and I've done it 10 years. Give me a car built like a tank, backup, a bullet proof vest, and a belt with an array of deadly and nondeadly weapons and I wouldn't even consider delivery dangerous.
Havent been pulled over in years. But when pulled overed i get my license, insurance. Registration, and permit ready before the cop gets close to my truck. Then i put both hands out the window. Never had a problem.
Officer safety is just an excuse to get you out of your vehicle because once they get you out of your vehicle 98% of the time you won’t be getting back in your car instead you’re going with them in their car and yours gets towed
I have a CCW permit and my state doesn't require you to tell police that you are carrying unless they ask you. I never voluntarily tell them and have never had a bad experience.
Couple things: 1) I can tell from how an officer approaches the car whether they know I am licensed to carry. If they know, I will never see their face, because they talk to me over my left shoulder. They do tend to be super polite. 2) Here at least officers have started approaching cars from the passenger side, which is safer on the highway for sure, so I wouldn't assume that a cop won't see your gun if you're right-handed.
Correction on Maine - Maine permit holders do not need to disclose if they are carrying. ONLY non-permit-holders need to disclose. "When an individual who is carrying a concealed handgun pursuant to the authority of this chapter and who does not have a valid permit to carry a concealed handgun that has been issued as provided in this chapter first comes into contact with any law enforcement officer of this State or its political subdivisions or a federal law enforcement officer during the course of any arrest, detainment or routine traffic stop, that individual shall immediately inform that law enforcement officer of the fact that the individual is carrying a concealed handgun."
Hi - you said you do not need to disclose you have a conceal carry permit if you do not have your firearm on you…that is not what they taught in our North Carolina conceal carry class…I also asked an officer one day over a casual conversation about that and she confirmed the same. Even if you don’t have your firearm on you the law states you must disclose you have a carry permit. Odd law IMO but thought I’d mention it here in case anybody else caught that. Thanks
Tl;dr- summary of this 18 min video…treat all cops as if they are newborn infants. Only difference between cops and newborns is one carries a gun and the other does not
This has always worked for me in police interactions when carrying. "Here is my license and registration. I hold a concealed carry permit and am carrying in a holster on my right hip (or wherever my gun is). I will be keeping my hands up here where you can see them. How would you like to proceed?"
You're wrong about South Carolina. We do not need a permit and we do not have to disclose to the tyrant police that we are carrying. According to the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) document H.5394, a concealed weapons permit (CWP) holder or a person carrying a firearm without a permit under South Carolina's law does NOT have a duty to inform a law enforcement officer that they are carrying a firearm during a traffic stop or other interactions.
As a retired Police Officer I will always tell an Officer that I'm Leagally carrying! 5 times out of 10 the officer will appreciate your honesty and give you a break.
I’m sure glad I watched you video because I live in a state you listed and some rules you mentioned I was not told about in my CCW class when I took it. Thanks great information.
I’ve been pulled over for a moving violation and after the cop asked for my license and registration they asked if I had any firearms, drugs, or dead bodies in the vehicle. How the hell are you supposed to answer that. I can tell you initially laughing isn’t good but it was so random and assured when they said "dead bodies" I laughed. Next thing I knew they were claiming bits of cereal on the floorboard from the kid looked suspicious and I was ordered out for a search that lasted 40min. My grandfather was on the job 26 years and I have the utmost respect for law enforcement EXCEPT when it comes to fabricating probable cause just to be a$$holes or find something to jam you up on.
In North Carolina your CPP is linked to your driver's license record. So, when the cop runs your license they know you have a permit. Best practice, according to the instructor I had, is to hand your permit to the cop with your license - whether or not you happen to be carrying at the time.
When they run your license They can see if you have any warrants, any history of assault, or a concealed carry permit. So if you’re legally carrying it’s best to be straightforward with them and maintain your composure.
Good advice. Dome light on, window down, engine off, hands on steering wheel. I don't pull out my wallet to get license, proof of insurance, etc. until after the officer has asked for them and I've told him I have a license to carry and where they're located.
I hold a LTC in Texas. Texas also has permitless carry. My instructor advised, Stop as soon as you can safely. Open windows, place hands on steering wheel and await commands from the officer. I live in Texas and decided to keep my concealed carry permit active so I can carry in places that do not allow constitutional carry. Transitional spaces can be dangerous, and you should always be prepared.
I don't understand why anybody would get a concealed carry permit these days. Especially if you live in a state that doesn't require it. You are pointing out several reasons why I won't be getting one
I was pulled over a month ago, Handed him my permit with my license and he informed me my tags were expired , I said thank you i had forgotten to get new tags at which time he said have a nice day and sent me on my way.
I strongly feel cooperating and being forthcoming goes a long way. I've been stopped twice in TX while carrying. In both cases, i shared that i was carrying. The officers appreciated it and likely knew because i have an LTC. I drove away without a citation each time.
I’ve been pulled over twice in my adult life. Minor speeding in a speed trap (speed transitioned from 45 mph to 30 mph DOWNHILL, and expired tags on my farm truck. Both times I’ve handed the officer my driver’s license AND Carry Permit. Both times I was let off with a warning.
It's crazy that we need tips for interacting with a cop like it's a wild animal.
Maybe they are like a wild animal
@Cheyenne-yv3zw
In many of the 1A videos I've watched, it seems MOST COPS act instinctual anyway no matter what state they pull you over in.
Not really. I’ve seen too many bodycams where grandma motorist pulls a gun on a cop without any warning.
@@efreutel Funny how those body cams don't get erased, and get released isn't it.

In another incident it was a hair brush, and in another it was nothing at all. In each case the cop walked away with nothing but a paid vacation while the police investigated themselves to ensure everything was on the up and up and they did nothing wrong.

• It allows individuals 18 years old and older to carry firearms openly or concealed
without a permit.
• There are no restrictions of guns inside vehicles. Guns can be stored anywhere inside
the vehicle openly or concealed.
• Possession of a firearm alone is NOT a reason to stop an individual. To make a stop,
there must be reasonable and articulable suspicion a crime has occurred. Law
enforcement officers cannot conduct a stop solely because a firearm is visible.
• A CWP holder or a person carrying a firearm without a permit pursuant to this law
DOES NOT have a duty to notify a law enforcement officer that they are carrying a
firearm.
• Insofar as there is no longer a CWP requirement, a CWP holder is not required to
carry his/her CWP or disclose his/her status as a CWP holder to a law enforcement
officer.

Not true.....I live in a town of 30,000 and drove taxi for 2 years and the cops ALL know if they see me (not where it's barred) I am carrying!!!!! They know what I CCW and WHERE it's at on my person! (I had a stalker and the cop asked me if I carry (I have a permit) I told him bcuz I'd MUCH rather had I been involved in an accident, I wanted LEO to disarm me versus a citizen or EMS personnel!)
@@shannonobrien9922 Sure that works for a small town where you're on the road al lthe time and the cops get to see you and know you. Try a metro area of 2,000,000 people and let's just say your results may vary.
I invoke the 5th!
You are a blessing to UA-cam, the Thin Blue Line, and We the People! Thank you Sir! 🙏
You are very welcome
I keep the registration and proof of insurance in the glove box ...together in a plastic zip bag.....very easy to find and grip to pull out with two fingers. But I'm considering making additional copies and putting them on my drivers side sun visor... it'd be so much easier.
Right, When the plate is run the system tells the officer if the owner has a CPL. Be proactive and em first “I have a CPL” AND tell them if you do or do not have a weapon on that day. This video is chocked full of good advice and information.
I believe the 2nd Amendment has already answered that question !
Shall not be Infringed..so back off
Maine has two kinds of carry.
Don’t try to hold court alongside road with cop.
5:35 Always asked the officers, "Are you afraid of me?" No, then no reason to get out of the car.
You're making a strong case for not getting a CCL in the state of Texas.
Lmao I take my gun everywhere. I’d rather be judged by 12 than carried by 6.
“Officer safety”
Cop- number 16 on the most dangerous jobs list.
And school crossing guard is like #6 or #7? Most people have fully bought into the propaganda.
And the vaseline?
Officer safety is just an excuse to get you out of your vehicle because once they get you out of your vehicle 98% of the time you won’t be getting back in your car instead you’re going with them in their car and yours gets towed
I have a CCW permit and my state doesn't require you to tell police that you are carrying unless they ask you. I never voluntarily tell them and have never had a bad experience.
In other words, we ain't got no rights in this country any more. Period.
Thank you for sharing this informative video. Stay safe. 😊
Pennsylvania versus Mims, cops need to articulate that the person is "armed & Dangerous" not officer safety.
Cops like it when you present your firearm in a quick manner. It helps save them time during their busy days so urgency is key :)
Thanks
Let’s cover what to do when you’re carrying a firearm in California as a non-resident. Let’s talk about “I don’t answer questions”
It’s always a good idea to carry even in a car. Always keep your tools on you.
I saw this video before and I enjoyed watching this video once again.
This is great advice! Thanks for this video. Well done!
Give them both your drivers license and your LTC.. My insurance is on my phone. Not reaching for anything until he/she says to. Things should go smoothly from there.
Never consent to a search and make it clear that you don’t consent to a search.Have it written down on construction paper in crayon if necessary.
I was pulled over a month ago, Handed him my permit with my license and he informed me my tags were expired , I said thank you i had forgotten to get new tags at which time he said have a nice day and sent me on my way.
See, the police really are our friends Yay! That was the point of this and other similar comments, right?
I strongly feel cooperating and being forthcoming goes a long way. I've been stopped twice in TX while carrying. In both cases, i shared that i was carrying. The officers appreciated it and likely knew because i have an LTC. I drove away without a citation each time.
Been pulled over a couple of times since I got my carry permit. I gave them my permit along with my license and insurance. Not a problem.
