I do refurbishing of previous loved dollies, such as Baby Borns. Whenever there are light scratches on the head or painted hair, I use a micro cloth for cleaning eye glasses, using a little bit pressure (not much) carefully. This may not work with reborns, but it certainly does with Baby Borns and Baby Alive dolls.

My artist had my Reborn head wrapped up in a diaper and then she wrapped her whole body in a fleece blanket and a thick ribbon tide across the reborn midsection and wrapped afterwards in bubble wrap.
That’s how you do it normally, I think it’s the best way!👍

I think you wld have to use a airdry sealer unless the matte varnish isnt air dry. You cant bake a baby with hair ..

Yes, I was going to say DON'T bake her vinyl now, she has product on her (gloss varnish, mohair, mohair conditioner, ect..) that should not be baked and unless you have a separate oven for baking vinyl please don't put your health at risk or your families health by baking in the oven used for food as well. Folk Art Glass and Tile medium will matte just fine. Or Liquitex Matte Medium. I probably wouldn't bother, unless it stood out a lot. The thing with vinyl is that it is a petroleum product, and it reacts to other plastics, so that is probably what has happened with it against the cling wrap. I've never used it to ship a doll, I'm not sure why anyone would, you aren't even suposed to let the baby fat silicone pellets some people use for the rump filling, touch the vinyl, as it will react.

I have never got a baby wrapped plastic wrap, Usually the artists use a diaper to protect the head. Just a little info for you

Congrats she’s beautiful! I’ve never had that happen with the wrap before but I think I’ve only had babies arrive with it around the hair. I wonder if the artist had put some product on the hair before she wrapped the head up? The oils could have run down to the face and set on the vinyl. Hopefully the mat will fix her up x

Thanks!! Me too. I believe she used air dry paints. The varnish will be air dry as well. I am getting it in the mail today and will film the process of me trying to fix her up! Hopefully it works! 😬🤞
I have used the magic eraser to get rid of the shine from the varnish wearing off maybe give that a go

A lot of artists use the cling wrap just on the hair not so much for the whole face

Yea I wouldn’t use plastic wrap, I don’t know why artists keep using that? I saw in another video the same thing happened. Just use a hat, it doesn’t hurt to brush the hair a bit upon arrival. But anyhow she’s a gorgeous baby!❤️

This seems so strange when I purchased my 1st blank silicone kit from macphersons when checking for the paints in the details it states to PREVENT wear and tear on your silicone matting,when we change our babies clothes,its advised to use siran wrap around the atms and legs before changing their clothes to prevent shiny spots where we touch most often,their hands and feet,and yes lots of artists are using siran wrap to protect the paint on their vynal reborns I dont understand I hope you get it resolved
Hmm I don't know anything about silicone babies yet but yeah, I know a lot of artists use saran wrap so its super weird what happened! I think it just came down to the products the artist used to varnish the baby, maybe 🤷♀️
My first thought every time I see a baby whose head has been wrapped in Cling wrap is that I hope they are ok because I have heard of the cling wrap causing issues with the paint during the shipping process. I’m not really sure why but I believe some type of reaction between the plastic wrap and the vinyl during temperature changes. I do not root hair on the dolls I make but if I did, I would most likely use tissue paper along with a diaper to protect the head. The cling wrap makes the hair stay in place better....but it’s just too risky 😕🤷🏼♀️

After watching the rest of your video I noticed exactly what you were seeing and NO!! I have never seen this happen in ANY BOX OPENINGS yo me it looks like it's been finished in a satin varnish,crazy I know but it's what it looks like and it's too even if that makes sense

Booboo means there is something wrong with the doll like the artist messed up or something happened to make the doll not in a perfect state anymore. Felicity is almost 19" and wears preemie best. And omg yes I love her hair!! 😍

A friend of mine bought a baby for a couple hundred dollars last year. The doll was a boo-boo baby and the seller said that the baby had some bald patches from where her hair had fallen out, she would come with a COA and she was in pretty good condition minus the bald patches etc.
The doll arrived with limbs that were melted in some places, the cloth body had a huge cut in the middle of it as though the doll's cloth body had been sliced open with a knife or with a sharp object of some kind and the doll arrived without a COA.
My friend asked for a slight discount when she was buying the doll, it was like $20-$30 which isn't very much for a doll that had some flaws etc. The doll was also reserved for a few days because she couldn't pay immediately for the doll and when she had the money, she sent the money to the seller and the baby was shipped soon after.
The seller's response to the cloth body having a hole in it was that that happened whilst the doll was in the mail to the customer... that was a total and utter lie. She said that the doll's limbs were weighted and so when the doll was in the mail, her limbs were being tossed around and they somehow managed to tear the cloth body which was made of a strong doe suede fabric which doesn't tear unless it is torn with a sharp object or unless it is torn with lots of strength - something that wouldn't happen in the mail.
I asked my friend if the doll had been through her state customs office and she said no. I asked this because sometimes, the customs officers will cut items open if they think they are suspicious with hidden illegal things inside them etc but this was not the case so we concluded that the seller must have cut the doll's cloth body out of anger before sending the doll because my friend didn't pay immediately or something. We are certain that this is the case because she was very rude to my friend right from the start and I told my friend that she shouldn't have bothered with the seller but she just wanted this doll because it was a limited edition Scarlett by Bonnie Brown doll.
The COA apparently fell out of the box when the seller was taking the doll to the post office but the box was sealed up really well so we think this was another excuse as the seller obviously forgot to package it with the doll or something.
Regarding the melted limbs... the seller accused my friend of doing that to the doll. Of course, she did not do anything to the doll and in the end she got a pathetic refund of $80. She asked me to walk her through a PayPal dispute and I told her to explain to PayPal that the seller had been cruel and had even posted about my friend online but she ignored most of what I said and ended up with a damaged doll which she still has and an $80 refund which I think isn't enough because she paid nearly $400 for the doll and she was messed around by the seller for the entire process. Not worth it at all in my opinion.
My point is with this tale that it doesn't sound like the plastic wrap on the doll's face would be the cause of shine marks ie the varnish is rubbing away, just like the fact that a cloth body doesn't end up with a huge hole in it just from moving around a bit in the box whilst it was in transit to the buyer 😅
To me, it seems like the doll was not sealed correctly with a varnish or that something went wrong in the reborning process but your baby is cute regardless. I think it will be a relatively easy thing to fix and it shouldn't be too difficult. Your baby looks to be in pretty good condition for a boo-boo baby. I have seen so many that have huge spots where the paint is missing, have missing fingers etc 😅

That's a crazy story about your friend and I'm sorry she had to experience that! That's so disheartening. I think this seller honestly didn't see it coming.. she could have easily disclosed it in the booboos as it was already a booboo baby and she went out of her way to really photograph the tiniest scratch on her cheek to properly show her booboos.. a scratch I can hardly even see with my naked eye.. so I think the shine would have picked up in her photos and she's also using this experience to warn other artists so that it won't happen to them. She uses air dry paints and a homemade varnish so I think that's what ultimately didn't do well with the saran wrap but I'm not entirely sure. She's also a very new baby who's varnish might take some more time to properly seal. I still would have jumped on this baby even if the shine was disclosed upfront, she's just that precious! Easily worth 2x what I paid!
