My old man was the same way. Never heard him talk about his tours in Vietnam. Just one time when he was extremely intoxicated. And that story will be between him and me forever. He was a man's man. He loved to cook out and drink beer outta a cooler with ice . Never knew he was a Green Beret until my uncle's told me things about my dad. I miss him everyday.
Have a green beret uncle, tough sob. Never complained, took care of his son's & baby momma daughter when they couldn't because of drugs. I found out through work that he was SF in Vietnam. He never spoke about it
hell man I always got along with the Seal's when deployed. We operated quite often with seal teams in Iraq and always were professionally and cool as can be.
I was in the Corps and never in combat even before MARSOC the Marines were and still are the best force in readiness in the world the roles were completely different I think MARSOC was needed but I sleep better at night knowing the SEALS are out there protecting the flock EVERY man and woman in uniform are vital and necessary and above all appreciated thanks to all who serve and have served God bless the U.S.A.
Marines are pretty much SEALs with way less funding and way less opportunity for training, but they get even more action and area just as aggressive if not more aggressive than SEALs
@@PermanentHigh I was in the Marine Corps and I disagree. I believe that Marines as a whole are very well trained to the best of the Leaders appointed to each Battalion, Platoon, Squad, etc...But I do NOT believe that Basically Trained Marines could even come close to Seal Training! All the Marines I have ever been around, with the few exceptions here and there, are all highly motivated and ready to get some, myself included! And I am proud and truly honored to have said that I was a part of that at one point in my life. I would NEVER compare myself to someone with such an Honorable and Admirable career such as Mr. Shawn Ryan himself, or any of his counter parts! Semper Fi Shawn! And as Always, Thank YOU for YOUR service brother! 😊👍🇺🇸
This is by far one of the best soldier stories I've ever heard. So much appreciation for our warriors. These guy's should get the recognition pro athletes get. Thank you brother!
I'm watching all of your shows starting from number one after I watched the interview with Cody and heard his story. I'm not military but I think you and everyone you have on your show for your service and I'm very grateful. I don't care if they're 6 hours long you got me and honestly man I'm an accountant so my time is pretty costly. you're that good!!
This is a killer podcast. The Marine Corps is something special. We can only explain in words but the Corps is the ultimate adventure. It all about our legacy and tradition.
I've been in the corps for a few years now. MARSOC marines are legendary and I have a Raider patch that I look at everyday to realize how easy I have it because of this marine.
I was at the Pentagon on 9-11as a fairly young FF/Paramedic. I respect everything you guys do for our country. My son, my 9-11 baby created while on stress leave from the Pentagon, goes to Parris Island in September. I will show him this Video. The first and foremost thing he ALWAYS says is: its payback for you Dad and what happened to you on 9-11.
Mr. Kefalides. I really appreciate how humble you were in this interview! I am a Veteran also. Hope you and your son are doing great. Mr. Ryan. Love how you keep it real man. You are definitely a no nonsense type of man. I know this will sound like B.S.! But I feel like I know you better after having listened to you in your videos and podcasts. Even though I have never met you. Stay strong and healthy. Hope you and your wife are both happy and enjoying your lives. Take care. "Vigilance Elite" He'll Yeah!!
Thank you for everything you sacrificed for country and for us civilians. As a father with a young Marine just starting his career it’s enlightening to hear your stories I’m glad to hear that you came out of the side happy unsuccessful.
I had a handful of friends that deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan. My dad deployed for both Desert Storm and Shield but these interviews also show the sacrifice they give to be the absolute best of the best. Modern day GLADIATORS! People need to hear the sacrifice these men give of themselves so we can walk around and do what we do over here because of the things these men did over there for us! Thank you men for everything!!!
This was my favorite interview yet! Nick you'll probably never read this but Thank you man. From an everyday guy with a 8-5 job and a wife and kids, I cant thank you and others enough for all the sacrifices you've made and continue to make. I wish nothing but the best for you and your family! Thanks
This is better than entertainment. Something real and raw. Something this world lacks a lot of. I can’t get enough. It’s like listening to an audio book but all of your questions are answered because Shawn is an excellent host. Its natural and not read off a prompt. Just a great flow. Keep it up 👍🏼🇺🇸
Hey Shawn, I just found your channel and I love everything you represent bro! I got a couple of DUI’s as a teenager and was heading nowhere fast. My pops gave me the best advise ever when he told me to join the marine corps. It straightened me out and I am blessed to have served along Seal’s on a med float. You guys are the best of the best. I recently quit drinking at age 50. I feel fucking great and I love your videos. They keep me on the right path. I use my drive to keep going as a small biz owner. Barely made it out of H.S. But ended up building and later selling 3 trash companies to the big haulers. I owe a lot of this to my dad and the corps. We are crazy bastards, but the good kind of crazy! Keep doing what you do sir, because it means a lot to us old timers. We are growing soft as a country and need to take it back somehow. Semper Fi Shawn and safe travels.
One of the best shows on the internet, hands down. You’re a very astute interviewer and I love that you don’t talk over your guests. Can’t stand it when people do that. You’re awesome man. Bless you.
This intro is simply outstanding. I just want to say as a Marine pog0 my "sf" friends always gave us mad respect for our Marine Corps operational tempo supporting the division etc. Getting trigger time as a transportation marine was crazy. Especially when guys in Coronado Island are intently listening to my story in late 2004, over some beers post "cheetahs" Whoah. They're like man that's crazy. I appreciate the admiration and professionalism from tier 1's and elite warriors. Super humbling. I met Chris Kyle in Dallas just before I went away to "grown up timeout" again another exemplary leader who treated me with the upmost respect and dignity. I will aways be biased and feel that Marines in combat are killers. I watched the division in 2003 from Nasiriyah to Tikrit, 2004 Ramadi/Fallujah, 2005 Syrian boarder, Haditha dam. Hard chargers! Gung Ho M'effers. This show is ABSOLUTELY #1 Thank you brother.
As a former Marine with a combat tour in Iraq I really enjoyed this interview. Thank you gentlemen for your service to our great country. Peace and long life to you both. Semper Fi.
Its so messed up hearing about IED makers freely traveling across the border to Iran. They basically keep their important bomb makers and IED materials out of country because American forces can't go into Iran to stop them. Also it's sickening that Iran allows the terrorists to operate within their country without consequence. It proves that Iran is backing Al Qaeda and isis to cause disruption and evil acts of terrorism to help keep those 2 neighboring countries from growing big enough to cause Iran any issues
Just finished watching this podcast of Nick and Shawn for the second time! The second time was even more enjoyable than the first! Thank you both for your service and sharing your stories! God Bless!
This platform is so necessary. Thanks to Shawn and his team we're able to hear stories from these incredible warriors that we probably would of never gotten a chance to hear. I'd imagine a lot of these men don't share their story with just anyone. Since Shawn himself is such a badass in his own right it makes them more comfortable and open to talking about it. So thank you Shawn for everything you did before and everything you continue to do!
Jay that’s where the importance of being a silent professional comes into play. Operators these days have a massive craving for being a badass in the eyes of as many people as possible. Unfortunately, as a result, lots of info and tactics are available to the wrong people.
Holy shit! This vid has really opened my eyes and actually give me alittle scare. I have a lot of the same feeling. I think I may need to look into treatment. I’m a marine vet, 2003 in Iraq. This vid really hit home. God bless both of you. Shawn keep this up man. You are making a difference. Semper Fi
Shawn you have a genuine talent for finding the most brave men, and stories us laymen would never have imagined. Your interview dialogue is very intelligent and honest. Thank you for making this accessible to us.
Hearing him talk about mental health helps a lot. I haven't been in combat or through nearly as much as he has but hearing him speak on topics like depression makes you feel not alone.
I think it's extremely important for guys like this to talk about being down, and contemplating ending their lives. And the end result of carrying on and making it onto the next step- the sunrise after that darkness
Amazing story. You guys are the best of this generation. Former marine 1 bn 9th marines walking dead Vietnam 67-69. Great to see the heroes that followed us. Amazing men. Semper fi.
Listened to your first podcast, 008 when you interviewed Eddie Gallagher. I’m a military history buff and am now hooked on your podcasts. Prior it was mostly just reading books or catching specials on tv. Thank you for your service to our country. Thank you for shining the light on those who’ve kept us free!
Putting all the service aside, hearing your story and struggle fathering your child, going through divorce, and your response to those difficulties, is one of the most inspiring things I've heard in a while. Thanks for the little 17 second teaser that was randomly posted today, I'm glad I heard the rest of Nick's story.
A great friend of mine was MARSOC and suggested this episode to me. Hearing all of this seems insane that I know personally one of the dudes who got it on against the enemy to such a degree. From a young Scout who never got the chance to deploy, thank you both and your peers for all you did over there. I wish I could've had my chance, but I've accepted that I need to move on. Amazing episode gents. Keeping moving forward. Recon.
Shawn needs to get on JRE. Guys like him, Mike Glover, etc are the kind of perspectives the country needs right now. Or a podcast with Jocko would be badass. Imagine that going like... Jocko - "Good" Shawn- "Roger that". Podcast over. 10 million views. Corona goes into remission.
@OUR Republic- Never Give In Joe's a pretty level headed dude though. Politics aside, he's got a huge platform. Guys like Shawn could reach an insanely large audience. Would be great for Shawn, Nick, Mike, Travis, etc stories/mentalities to be shared with that many people. Would educate millions of people.
Dude I just stumbled upon these. Watched the ed Calderon episode . Keep em coming. Better than entertainment. With men like these we can sleep better at night. God bless America and thank you for your service guys 🇺🇲
Great show: great, calm informed interviewer. No panel screeming at each-other, no panel making smartalek jokes, good choice of topics! Best interview podcast … by far!
@@blackbeard0074 it'd be sweet. I love watching vets. There humor, mannerisms. Shawn Ryan is awesome he has this stream in the back of his house and he has alpacas. That lone survivor guy Marcus lattrel has giraffes. It's awesome and I love it.
Hell yeah! Been waiting on this one. Like I wasn’t waiting on the other 3 lol. I did 20 years deployed 11 times and STILL love to hear these stories! I didn’t do shit but it amazes me the caliber of men we have in this country.

Nick #3 Kefalides is one BADASS Marine , I'm so glad he has pulled thru and is married - happy and doing Great Things for our VET's . i'm looking forward to show #5 . Nick, thank you so much for your service and telling your story and experiences. Prayers for your son. Blessing that the doctor looked into your record and started the process to diagnose TBIs. Thankful that you are getting the word out. Will help so many people that experience the same symptoms. Keep getting the truth out, Shawn. btw--my brother is a Vietnam Vet, Navy Corpsman, I was born April 1969 & he was on his 3rd tour - got shot by a sniper in Aug 1969, got purple heart, survived and was back to Saigon in a year; 20 years difference btw me & him so we weren't close and he had (has) same mannerisms as your step father, isolation, darkness, never talked about it, later diagnosed with PTSD. Sign me up if there are ways I can help our military that suffer from it.

Thank you both. Your courageous acts didn’t end when you came home. It takes real courage to open up and talk about the difficult stuff, especially this way. Your new chapters are going to be even better than the previous ones. Stay strong and welcome home gentlemen.
Of all the men that I've met that have done amazing things for this country I wish I spent more time with them after watching several of these episodes. You're helping these people and this cause so much
My dad was a Vietnam combat veteran And after some decades finally talked a little bit about his experience. He was part of a strike unit with the Big Red 1, and before that had done some training in Alaska where he met my mom, an Inupiat native. There was the ptsd which maybe didn’t have such a terminology back then when I was a kid, his mentioning of being called certain things coming back stateside, they were even shot at on a train returning, etc.. Ptsd like me going to wake him up for dinner and him jumping up ready to fight, him in a moment of anger when I was a kid saying he’d killed more people than I’ve seen. Ptsd affects generations I think. Thanks to him and thanks to this channel for your service and for dealing with what it really means.
I got huge respect for guys like this. Its ashame they fight there ass off go through literally hell. For them to come home and deal with this mess here in the states they playing. Awesome Patriots like this deserve better.
These war heros are the individuals that society should look up to versus these snicthing a** rappers. Really about that life. Thank you Shawn for your commitment on educating us on the real ones.
Shawn, I love what you’re doing with this channel. A friend who I served with in the Marine Corps shot me a link to the Eddie Gallagher interview over a text a couple weeks ago and I’ve been hooked ever since. Your respect for all branches and the way you allow the stories to be told is above what I expected. Keep it up, and thank you for your service.
"Some people spend an entire lifetime wondering if they made a difference in the world. But, the Marines don't have that problem". Ronald Reagan. God Bless you! Thank you very much for sharing such fascinating stories!🇱🇷❤👊
I just want to thank all branches of the US military...I'm British but my fellow countrymen have fought and died in many foreign wars for a very long time now...thank you for your service guys 🇬🇧 🙏🇺🇸
The difference in types of PTSD is awesome. I have PTSD from domestic violence. I was in denial about that until a recent diagnosis because I thought “PTSD” was for guys who’ve been through trauma like this. Your episode with Victor Marx helped me identify it in myself… 14 years after I left my abuser. GREAT SHOW!!!
Thanks for all of these interviews you've been doing, Shawn. I've gone on a binge watch through all of the episodes you have released so far. They have helped me through some tough times in these last few weeks and given me inspiration as well. Thanks for all you guys do and keep it up. We all appreciate it!
This interview was so damn good, loved every minute of it. So many vets can definitely relate to the transition from warrior to civilian, it's one the hardest things ever!
I’m hooked on this shit! You have a winner here Vigilance Elite. This podcast draws you in and I can’t stop watching. Iv always loved to listen to this type of storyline.
My name is Dan and I just want you guys to know that I really Thank you from the bottom of my heart for everything you have done. Thank you Soldiers for your Service. Your video that I just watched really hit home what you have gone through. God bless you both and to all of the veterans.
Dude this man is an absolute beast of a man who loves his country, his son, & gotten thru so much stuff in life! Thank you for your service sir! Youre an absolute hero in my eyes!!!!
I wish something like this had been available for my dad. Green Beret, 3 tours in Vietnam. He would have really benefited from these interviews. Once he separated he pretty much withdrew from society & struggled with being alone.
Next time you see your dad, please thank him for his service, and a welcome home for me. My grandfather was a Green Beret in Vietnam as well, I’m not sure as to the years. I know he volunteered to go back twice, he’s shared a few stories. Your dad may know him, SFC Hood. My grandfather is suffering from dementia, and things are not improving sadly. Lots of stories and memories are being lost to time. He was in for 27 years. Take care ma’am.
My husband came home and was having the same mental/mood difficulties after he was discharged. I think this is very common, probably more common than not. It’s a very helpless feeling as a person that loves someone who is going through this, and watching them become so self destructive. My husband lights up around the guys he served with when they visit or talk on the phone. You guys have to stay in touch with one another. I’m going to pay for my husband and some of the guys he served with to go on a fishing trip with this guy for his birthday. My husband is out of the weeds for now but you never know who else is suffering.
You are so sweet 😰💐 Paying for a fishing trip for your hubby & his ex-military friends because he lights up around them in a way he can’t elsewhere? You’re a sweet person luv, stay this way 💐
Shawn is among the very best at interviewing- and not just GWAT Vets. He proves that every podcast and this is just another example- and a damn interesting and insightful one at that. Rarely can I sit through a two hour podcast. No problem this time. I think I actually may have missed dinner….
Ive been home 15 years now, drinking made all my shit pile up and made it impossible, i struggled the last few of 7 years out the Army to quit. Had 14 months off the bottle 3 months back now 5 months off, not turning back. Alcohol does NOT help. Im lucky to have had a few people pipe up later about it, I spent alot of time alone in that bottle too, i did learn alot of what not to do. Thank you Nick for youre service and youre continued service to our fellow vets welcome home.
I have never been in the military, yet grew up in a military family who served in the second world war, and in Aden in 68. I really admire your guests who in my opinion, have been terribly treated by their own politician's and services.. Great interview, and an in depth look in to the real stories of those who defend the real higher ground and protect not only our countries, but lives of complete strangers. Thank you both Nick and Shawn for this incredible content 🙏
This podcast has become my new obsession. It’s THE best podcast out there. Simply exceptional. And I’m probably the last person anyone would expect to listen to a podcast like this. I stumbled across Shawn’s podcast and I’ve been straight up hooked ever since. Love it.

Been watching around 15 full shows past couple weeks and now starting from No1 making my way through , now on this one No4. Saw the trailer for this one first and looks like another great one. One of your videos popped up on my channel and wasn’t sure if it interested me. Couple weeks later I saw my first full video and was blown away on the interview style, content and the rest of it. Now I’m racking up one by one, simply awesome channel . Thank you. I’m in the 40’s and wanted to join the Royal Navy at school but led to other job but always regretted it ever since

Amazing episode Shawn, thanks so much for allowing me to be a part of this ! You're doing great things !!
Brother, the show would not have been the same without you. Thank you for everything. Cheers 🍻
Awesome listen thank you all for your service.
@@ShawnRyanShowUnblock me Shawn….😅
This is by far one of the best soldier stories I've ever heard. So much appreciation for our warriors. These guy's should get the recognition pro athletes get. Thank you brother!
I'm watching all of your shows starting from number one after I watched the interview with Cody and heard his story. I'm not military but I think you and everyone you have on your show for your service and I'm very grateful. I don't care if they're 6 hours long you got me and honestly man I'm an accountant so my time is pretty costly. you're that good!!
I'm not in the military or ever served in the military but I find your lessons on life very inspirational.
Thank you brother!
Agreed
I wish more ppl where as open minded and critical thinkers as you
This is a killer podcast. The Marine Corps is something special. We can only explain in words but the Corps is the ultimate adventure.
It all about our legacy and tradition.
That's awesome man. Thank you
Vigilance Elite thank you as well bro. Keep doing your thing . Supporting you on my end all day.
As a civilian, I am honored to have had the privilege to learn from these guys. Nick's "Be a Good American" statement is powerful.
I've been in the corps for a few years now. MARSOC marines are legendary and I have a Raider patch that I look at everyday to realize how easy I have it because of this marine.
Wow
You shouldn't have patches of things you didn't earn. Unless you're a raider you don't need that patch..
@Spencer Kleiman lighten up. Unless he's wearing it and claiming he is one he can own whatever patch he wants to.
@@spencerkleiman5035 notice he didn’t say he wore it he probably was given that patch
Thank you to all veteran today and every day of the year. Truly the best 6 hour show I have ever watch.
Thank god, so refreshing to hear this warriors story and not listen to covid and political opinions! Great podcast.
Thank you, we steered from the Covid/political shit on purpose.

Mr.
Thank you Troy. Cheers 🍻
Thanks
I will never forget to thank God that our country has MEN like you, true patriots, Americans, hero's!!!
Thank the men for protecting you and thank God for protecting them.

Everyone needed this. Sick of coronavirus B.S needed some entertainment.
We left the Covid/political crap out on purpose. I’m glad you appreciate that. Thank you 🙏🏻
This is better than entertainment.
Marines are some BAMFs no doubt about it.
I can’t say thank you enough for doing what you guys have done for the United States.
Just finished watching this podcast of Nick and Shawn for the second time! The second time was even more enjoyable than the first! Thank you both for your service and sharing your stories! God Bless!
Thank both of you gentlemen for all you've done. True inspirations to every American. Another top notch episode🇺🇸🇺🇸
It is a real pleasure. Thank you for watching.
18 people dislike this, dishonorable discharged
Jay that’s where the importance of being a silent professional comes into play. Operators these days have a massive craving for being a badass in the eyes of as many people as possible. Unfortunately, as a result, lots of info and tactics are available to the wrong people.
Yea man OPSEC is out the window these days. Loose lips sink ships
No they are Taliban ;)
Probably enemy psyops
@Jay Andrew i haven't seen anything on here that could be useful to another country to help their tactics or training

JRE, Jocko, True Geordie, Valuetainment, it would be epic. Those guys could ask them questions from a civilian perspective which would be cool.
@OUR Republic- Never Give In Joe's a pretty level headed dude though. Politics aside, he's got a huge platform. Guys like Shawn could reach an insanely large audience.

The difference in types of PTSD is awesome. I have PTSD from domestic violence.
