I'm really tired of pointing this out but criminology is NOT forensics. Criminology studies the mind, motivations etc of the criminal. Forensics studies how they get away with the crime. The mistakes this guy made are FORENSIC in nature.
Yes, but remember his undergrad degree was in cloud-based forensics. All of this camera footage of his own car and cell phone data really were sloppy mistakes…
Then you are not surprised how stupid most of the commenter on here are. They are either in 7th grade or never made it past 6th grade. They say the dumbest things.
There can be sexual motivations for murder without the killer actually committing sexual assault. Sometimes (for sickos) the murder itself provides the sexual release.
Surprises me that people are making guesses about details we dont know. Almost everything we thought was true was wrong. police did a great job of keeping details quiet in order to catch this monster.
I’m so disappointed in Ashleigh. She blasted LE at the beginning for saying they had no suspects and now that they’ve made an arrest she’s blasting LE for taking so long. I’m surprised she’s not complaining he’s not on trial yet. The fact is LE handled this case perfectly from the very beginning when they called in the FBI to help. There’s a lot of people who owe them an apology.
In my opinion this case was solved very quickly. What does she mean LE took weeks so arrest him? Does she not know they need sufficient evidence? Why doesn't Ashleigh talk about all the cases that still haven't been solved even after decades? I will have more respect for her if she does that! She is annoying! She is constantly putting down LE.
DNA takes time to process! The subpoenas for cellphone records, device searches, searching a LOT of camera footage to assemble his movements across a wide grid because he tried to be evasive. Honestly, it seems quick.
I wish Ashley would talk less and ask more questions of her guests. I'm always wanting to hear from the experts she has on, but she often holds court with her own thinking process for so long that it leaves less time for her expert to offer his thoughts.
I don't understand why this women seems to think arresting him on just the stops an car alone would be enough. They really needed to wait for all the evidence an testing to come back to point to him an the more the better,so he has a less chance of getting off of this somehow. The amount of work they did an the amount of evidence pointing to this monster is impressive an I hope to God is more than enough now to secure a conviction. They needed to make sure they had enough pointing to him to finally catch this monster an the more an more they got is pointing to him like crazy. No way anyone else did this! The Police did an amazing, amazing Job❤️
But why were they allowing the father to be in the car going from Idaho to Pennsylvania Wouldn't the father be unknowingly tampering with the hes son DNA. That doesn't make sense eighter.
@@CrzyAsianz Never said that. He was clearly spooked after he committed this crime because he changed his lisecnse plate an everything,an than drove across the country to hide out in the woods. I don't believe it was just for the Holidays. I also live only an hour away from his parents house,it's all wood's up in that area. I don't think he was going to kill someone else during that time period because of how careful he was trying to be not to get caught. The Police did the right thing because with a crime to this extent you need all the evidence you can get, especially if he crossed state lines like he did. By not waiting you never know he may have gotten off if they didn't gather the amount they did before going in an taking him into custody, which may have made him get off an kill again. Everyone is entitled to their opinion but the Police did absolutely everything right in this case.
@@CrzyAsianz also,if they wouldn't have gathered so much evidence before taking him into custody he may have gotten off on bail an would have fled again, killed someone,or himself an than these families wouldn't get justice.

LE did an awesome job. They arrested the suspect in 6 weeks and they had thousands of tips to go through. They have my utmost respect. I don't care if they missed a SA initially. They got a very dangerous man off the streets and they should be commended, not picked apart for mistakes that might have been made.
It took over 5 years to solve the Delphi murders even with a video clip of the killer on one of the victim's phones. So this case was solved amazingly fast with enough solid evidence to convict. Happy for LE that Holes acknowledged that.
yes! i've also followed the delphi case for years, even after 5 years investigators didn't come up with as much evidence as they did with bryan. it was extremely well built in only about 7 weeks time

Delphi was a botched investigation.

@@masha2215 Agree, very strange, to leave a knife sheath next to a body and he walked out of there, he wasn’t running or in a hurry, it is almost to simple to be true. Idk

His psychopathy/narcissism stifled him, made mistakes. I believe it’s about sex/rejection. Three primary reasons to kill: greed, revenge, sex. Women who know Bryan say he’s a misogynist.
No known contact with the girls (yet), so I don't think it was rejection. I think he's a big sicko that just get's off on killing (playing God). And he found the girls attractive and very easy targets living in a party house. Probably saw them on social media, a bar, or at their jobs and started stalking them and figured out they were easy targets pretty quick.
Interesting. Thank you for that info. I don't recall hearing of women who know him saying that, or hearing anything from women who know him, so thank you. I wouldn't be at all surprised if sexual rejection is part of this. I do seem to recall hearing something about that being routine for him. That would also be consistent with the misogyny: incels who blame or hate women for rejecting them, instead of working on their character.
4:03 The survivor's description of "bushy eyebrows" has been a 'haunting detail' since it was first reported that she stated it. It is a specific detail you would not expect to hear about a face that was masked, in particular. It stood out as a significant recollection; I knew it had the potential to be either extremely helpful or quite the opposite. I'm surprised now that Kohberger did not tweeze his eyebrows soon after he heard it. If he is the killer, I bet it ran through his mind and was a real dilemma for him to decide whether or not he should because even if he did tweeze them, having taken that action would be able to be determined after a few days in jail and he would know that. And of course, his students and classmates might notice it right away and become suspicious. On the other hand, for her recollection of the 'bushy eyebrows' to have had the opposite effect, would have been if they were not 'that' bushy in comparison to many others when it came down to it in a trial. P.S. Do we know why his father flew across the country to drive him home? Had he done this any other time?
I'm wondering about the conversations between Bryan and his father during their cross country road trip. It's hard to believe that they would not have discussed the murder, especially considering Bryan was a student of criminology and resided within 10 miles of the murders. I bet that the father knows far more than he is letting on and is probably hiding his own suspicions he might have for his son.
i bet they discussed it at length and bryan told his dad all his 'theories' - he probably loved talking about it. but i'm completely sure he did not tell his dad it was him and i'm sure the dad didn't have a clue.
@Robin Soper What evidence suggests he discussed the murder with his father? Knowing his son was a student of criminology would likely contribute to his not suspecting sons involvement. It's not in any way unusual for family members to be unaware their loved one committed, or participated in murder &/or other forms of violence. This is actually very well documented.
I'm absolutely sure the murders were discussed, especially considering how they talked about the shooting at WSU during the traffic stop. I feel for his dad, who must have struggled with Bryan all through his troubled years but his pride is so obvious when mentioning that Bryan was a PhD student, he was blind to what was going on. Denial can run so deep between loved ones. I'm sure.not perfect but I'm humbled by the love my family has shown me through the years even when I wasn't even likeable to myself. I'm sure his dad was clinging to the hope and belief that his son was doing pretty well to be in a PhD program after he had been through the issues from his younger years. I genuinely feel terrible for Bryan's family and wish people would stop saying his family created a monster, etc. That is a gross oversimplification. If Bryan is the killer, there is much more to the story and not every dysfunctional family produces murderers. Leave the poor dad out of it. He was clearly disturbed by the shooting at WSU, and seems like a normal guy who is saddened by the ailings of society. What Bryan's family must be going through is unimaginable. It's a totally different kind of grief from the murder victim's families, but Bryan's family is going to suffer this for the rest of their lives, too. Sad all around.

Exactly! We are talking about a brutal murder of 4 beautiful people. They want to get this right for the victims and their families. If anything is overlooked and they jump too quickly at making an arrest. They could possibly be giving him a get out of jail free card. Law enforcement did a superb job. They wanted to make sure they had enough evidence to not only arrest but to CONVICT! 💯
Scoping out the house in his own car, driving to and from the crime in the same car, taking his cell phone through all of it, leaving the knife sheath, leaving dna, leaving an eyewitness... I can only conclude that he wanted to be caught. An average person could do a better job after watching 2 episodes of forensic files.
Maybe one the victims grabbed the sheath during the attacks, and he was unaware until he was then walking out as the survivor saw his form. He may have realized, he had lost it.
Or he could be so narcissistic, feeling smarter than the police, that he never thought about these details. When you have never done a thing, whatever it is, you never know beforehand what exactly will happen, what details will go wrong. Ask any new parent. You just read, ask others and imagine. And then you face the harsh reality. It does not matter how well prepared you are, there are still things you do not know about and that will surprise you. Like that they were not all asleep as I guess he thought they would be. That can be why he forgot the sheath in all chaos. I also think, because he was not an friend or a relative to his victims, he probably thought that the police would never find him. That they would not connect the dots.
Also, 7 weeks to arrest a quadruple homicide suspect is pretty good, in my opinion! They hadn't even had one homicide in years, let alone 4! I give them a lot of respect for knowing immediately they were in over their heads and asking for help.

LE did an incredible job here. As far as the sexual aspect, mostly likely the violence itself was his turn on, also because of how quickly he moved from victim to victim. Horrible, RIP kids.

Well now we know that young blonde women do the same things in horror movies that they do in real life when facing a masked killer. Stare at the killer, move closer towards the danger, or trip and fall.
It's a quadruple murder, so I'd imagine that law enforcement are going to gather up as much factual evidence as they can as long as they can do it, so that when they do get the guy, and they arrest him, and he goes to trial, they're not going to have to work hard with the defense to get a favorable conviction and sentencing. The more you have, the less you have to worry about down the line.
The Idaho police did so well, that nobody realized they had solved the case, but just needed evidence. They did so well, that not even the killer knew he was caught. For some reason, the press doesn't seem to understand that the police are under no obligation whatsoever to tell the press about any evidence that they may have. It's not even a very good idea to tell them where the guy is still in the wind. Why tell him what they have on him? The press will only blab irresponsibly about things they don't understand and make a laughingstock of a perfectly effective investigation. I think this was NOT the first time he’s killed people. Four people sleeping in a home he knew had 6 roommates seems mighty ambitious. I think his dna will likely match a few other cases going back to when he was a 15-17 yr old teenager, authorities should look all over the place where he has lived/ traveled for open/ cold cases.
One thing I learned in nursing school...just bcuz someone is book smart, they don't always know how to apply the concepts to real life situations. Perhaps this guy is one of those ppl.

Ashley, they have to be so careful and gather a bunch of evidence pointing to the suspect. Remember, the defense will do all they can to get evidence thrown out. They will also claim there was a rush to judgement and narrow-mindedness.
I'm really tired of pointing this out but criminology is NOT forensics. Criminology studies the mind, motivations etc of the criminal. Forensics studies how they get away with the crime.
The mistakes this guy made are FORENSIC in nature.
Forensic psychology studies the mind of the murderer. Criminology teaches forensics and psychology too.
Yes, but remember his undergrad degree was in cloud-based forensics. All of this camera footage of his own car and cell phone data really were sloppy mistakes…

There can be sexual motivations for murder without the killer actually committing sexual assault. Sometimes (for sickos) the murder itself provides the sexual release.

Media are parasites. They feed on pain.

I agree. She was down right rude!
Glad some people are thinking for themselves!
Feel horrible for the families of the Idaho murders! Prayers🙏
True! She’s so full of herself and likes to put down LE. She needs to go.

She is deaf... LE have been saying since day one they wanted a CONVICTION not just an arrest
She basically gets paid to stir the pot.

I don't think he was going to kill someone else during that time period because of how careful he was trying to be not to get caught. The Police did the right thing because with a crime to this extent you need all the evidence you can get, especially if he crossed state lines like he did.

His psychopathy/narcissism stifled him, made mistakes. I believe it’s about sex/rejection. Three primary reasons to kill: greed, revenge, sex. Women who know Bryan say he’s a misogynist.
and your sources are to your accusation are? or are you just a wannabe sleuth bored person in the basement? cmon...tell us the facts!
What women?
These drunk kids made it easy for him. Maybe they call 911 while he's in the home? What a concept!
@Robin Soper
What evidence suggests he discussed the murder with his father?

Tons more evidence to come!
He probably didn’t see the witness!
Yep definitely something fishy going on 🤔
Maybe one the victims grabbed the sheath during the attacks, and he was unaware until he was then walking out as the survivor saw his form. He may have realized, he had lost it.
I wonder if the roommate had called 911 at the moment he saw BK. Could any of the victims have been saved?

Banfield saying “I don’t know your business” while trying to tell Holes his business. And why they didn’t arrest him on sight for his bushy eyebrows is baffling! 🙄 Give me a break! Monday morning quarterbacking! 😡 Great job by law enforcement and thank you to all agencies, LE officers, technicians, data analysts and so on who worked tirelessly to catch this guy and to build a solid case.
I hate it when people ask why it’s taking so long and why haven’t they caught him yet and blaming anyone and everyone, imagine the sheer amount of data that needs to be sifted though and the drip feed of intel and if they over shoot it can spook the suspect and mess up the entire case especially as this guys a crim phd, in this case the Moscow police acted pretty quickly and cleanly compared to many other cases and tbh everyone on the internet blaming everyone could’ve really jeopardised it.
The “victims” held house parties and invited everyone and their mother to that house, the delay is mostly on them.
@@hakimbandaru1915 blaming them for their own murders? Because they threw parties and knew a lot of people? Good lord
Because Goncalves hired an attorney.
Yeah they did. Tip him off by pulling him over Let him flee to PA and scrub evidence. Blow out windows and doors etc. yeah real clen for public servant!
My cousin and his fiance were murdered in 2006 in Pike County Ohio. Shot dead in their bed. It has been 16 years and no arrests. No persons of interest named in spite of eye witness statements. 7 weeks and an arrest is a miracle! I pray for all the families. May God watch over you during this troubling time.
LE did an incredible job here. (1) they put enough heat on the subject so that no other attacks were committed but not so much where he fled the Country (2) they gathered all their evidence without tripping their hand or leaving themselves open to claims of a bungled investigation (3) made a quick arrest.
As far as the sexual aspect, mostly likely the violence itself was his turn on, also because of how quickly he moved from victim to victim. Horrible, RIP kids.
Y'all are wrong for this headline.
#HEYJB come get ya News Nation girl bc this title is NOT "routed in reality." Unreal. Smh.
Exactly
So they pretty much knew who it was within a couple of weeks, keeping it very quiet from the public because they had to get there ducks in a row. They did an Fantastic Job .. Wow I can't believe what all they did in a short amount of time without it going any further.
Banfield, once again you and NewsNation are once again negatively critiquing the very outstanding investigation conducted by the Moscow PD, Idaho SP and FBI. Wondering if this is how NewsNation will function and operate with all future reporting?
Banfield, just know I'm tired of you and your shenanigans. You're the reason I stopped watching court tv, until you left. Don't make me have to stop watching news nation too🤦🏽♀️
We dont know the full story yet!

Dude. Nothing's ever is enough for this woman 😂
Furthermore, I'm afraid they have all they need for a slam dunk case. What more evidence would they need? I'm jumping in the defense in this one. They did damn good. Move along.
I don t think the police have missed a thing....I think they thought of everything
Tip my hat to the Idaho authorities, and across the country ! Prayers to the families and survivor's ...I hope Idaho uses their death penalty .......
They had the DNA but didn’t match it to anything until they take rubbish from his parents home at Xmas time. That’s why they couldn’t arrest him.
The DNA took time to come back and then they could compare it to the trash & finally had more than the circumstantial case.
He wasn’t in the system. Good for the FBI.
@@MS219E So are you in the fbi data base? Then why the F should he be? He had no priors. Are you a Russian? You want everyone fingerprinted? DNA? You go first, comrade.
Why didn't they get dna from around his apartment
@@MeganMcCune Yes it confused me..DNA at scene..put into Genealogy thing n got a match I heard@!Some relative. Then his aprtmnt but got it from trash.! Any result is cool though LE have been awesome. I pray they have more DNA than the Sheath though if BK Defense is onto it..
I was extremely shocked that there was no sexual assault in this case. It's possible that police are holding evidence of that close to the best,as well
I love the look on his face when he's pulled over by the police. It's the look of sheer horror. Like he thought he was caught. I really think he was frustrated and an INCEL in a way. The girl he wanted rejected him. Maybe even made a comment to him that he didn't like. What's so baffling is why he, a criminal justice student, KNOWING there was no chance he would get away with this, that he would do it anyway. I also feel bad for his father and mother and family. Here dad has a son he's extremely proud of to have his world collapse because of what his son did.
I've read that he was a recovered heroin addict. For a parent to see their kid beat an addiction like that, turn their life around going for a PhD. Just to go and do THIS. man. They have to be devastated.
@@michael69040 I would say the parents are enablers of his OCD with replacing their cooking pots and pans but wouldn't call them monsters because they are also BK's victims. I think BK has frontal lobe issues since he didn't have healthy emotions, or emotions at all. He may be severely brain damaged,
@@michael69040 A plea deal wouldn't surprise me if he wants to avoid death penalty especially if his DNA is found under the victim's fingernails. So life in prison with no parole. But wouldn't he be in solitary since I'd suspect he'd be killed in the prison population? Either way he's a Dead Man Walking.
The police were holding details of the roommate being a witness. I am sure they have more info they are holding for the courts.
Paul Holes appears to be a very impressive man, knowledgeable in unthinkable, unimaginable, heinous, criminal actions and habits. I would appreciate hearing more of his thoughts on this case as it unfolds. I have subscribed and I hope to hear that he is coming back and when so I can watch.
Definitely read his books. 👍🏻
HIS LAST NAME IS WHAT I CALL MY WIFE!
Paul Holes stupidly thought that the East Area Rapist and the Visalia Ransacker were NOT one and the same, even though they had similar modus operendis. He didn't take down Joseph Deangelo, a genetic genealogist did.

And he is pretty handsome for a 60ish year old dude.
For someone who knows so much about how all this works he sure left enough to fry himself! He does not look that concerned about what's going on!

Burn baby burn. But some thug in PA jail threatened to take him out.
Banfield is missing the point. She has really gone off the rails since the pitito case. There have been a couple people she has shut off just on this case because they would not go with her story.
Why are we out here acting like “bushy eyebrows” isn’t at least a quarter of the male population 😂
Sorry is the word you're looking for Ashley. And if you can't say sorry, please forgive me would be next in line
If you still don´t understand why "it took so long" (it didn´t) then maybe you should start to listen to your expert guests who had to answer the same questions over and over again.
Jesus yes, so true.
He thought he had all the angles, but ended up making rookie mistakes.
Ashleigh, I enjoy your show. I watch daily, BUT sometimes your demeanor towards guests is a bit "snarky". As a viewer, coming off more "inquiring" and less "disdain" of the content, would be a better way to communicate on air . Just a suggestion from an avid viewer . :) I truly enjoy NEWSNATION.
We've heard all kinds of press B.S. insinuating that the Moscow P.D. didn't know what they were doing when in fact the P.D. had him identified and under surveillance relatively shortly after the crime. Does the press know how to do that?
I honestly feel sorry for his parents It would have to be a shock as apparent myself To be told that you raised a murderer. You just can't turn your feelings off for your kid overnight is it that would just be something that I wouldn't want to deal with. I feel sorry for the other parents too but I almost think it would be easier to lose your child than to have to see him go through dad and question yourself what you did wrong.
It must be awful and I think they will be in denial for awhile. I hope people are kind to them and give them time to see what is laid out before them.
Maybe he didn't do it
I can't imagine bringing that level of shame unto my parents that's ungrateful af

That caption is crazy. They arrested this guy in a short time. My gosh, they have to get things correct.
I was a criminal psych major. He has absolutely studied most serial killers. I have too, so he definitely has.
Excellent coverage!
The crime occurred withn the space of 30 minutes, how do you kill FOUR people, commit a sex crime, and get away in that time?!
exactly!!
He might be a two pump chump. You never know.
some ppl can only last 30 seconds so lmao
More interesting is how the surviving witness didn't have to use the bathroom for 10 hours after being out
I've had sex with 4 people in 30 minutes
As much she has kept this case on the front page, BANFIELD has really stretched the limits of reality with some of the lines of questioning, weird theories and guests she has had on.
Monday morning quarterbacking a murder investigation is really tabloid stuff.
Paul Holes does a good job here of sticking in reality.
100%
Well, no, they did have a license plate--they had stopped it twice, once in ID and once in WA. How many white elantras in that area got stopped by police for traffic violations in the previous 3 months?
Give him a trial. Stop presuming this or that. Just looking at him…. I do think he’s guilty, but he honestly deserves a trial by evidence, not by the media.
I totally get what he is saying. I think that he found one of the girls attractive or all of them, then he started targeting the house and trying to figure out how to commit the crime. It was a residential area so him driving through there that often is a sign that he was scoping things out. The knife holder is also key evidence.
Shun…..Really.
@Jan parchanski Not strange at all, after killing four people. He didn't realize he'd dropped it, or couldn't find it, and only was thinking about getting away from the scene.
I think it was Maddie he linked up with in his head, she worked at the restaurant and they served vegan food, he may have went there and tried it and met them , Maddie could have explained the menu options and it struck a conversation.. he also was known at another bar to get beer only so he could have went to Maddie restaurant and began his victim story.. I was a server and know how easy it is to talk with others, especially if you talk with them about something your interested and passionate about, I had a guy that stocked me and looking back at it is chilling.. he only ordered a diet coke and would come in 2 times a week on my shift, he would leave a 30 dollar tip each time, he only maintained small talk and would go within an HR.. it was a 2 story pool hall and we served food. He was older but blended in with younger people to chat and then exit. When I would see him I was drawn to him because of the tip. Bryan could have done the same grooming.. it's slow and low profile, this guy would end up letting me tell him my personal drama as I was in need of making money to go back and get my children from an abusive relationships, I would keep it short and he would play the quiet type, he maintained his tips and time in the bar , one day he bought me a brand new off the lot car and surprised me, he put 500 cash in my hand paid my hotel bill where I lived and told me to go get my children and bring them back. I was 21 and so neive.. I got stuck in the state my children where in as police where called and I had to them go to court, I called him and explained.. listen I didn't even know his last name, where he lived I was a pot smoker, I drank at work I took seductive pictures and was popular with males. I had a sugar daddy and he continued without any sex, no kissing no sexual talk on phone to lavish me with 5000 a mth and cars trucks apartments, court bills .
I road it til the wheels fell off to my shame of 5 yrs.
I'm telling you this because I see all these girls and how being a tease and putting pictures of parties and getting drunk and smoking weed, taking pills, my home was like their home and I wasn't even in college, and I had to my shame 2 children in my care. The things you do in sin create more sin and your open landing strip for Satan to sift you and bring other demons in. There are way more things that these students did that may never be told but I see right into there cover up with there parents approval and financial support and applause on all there seductive pictures and parties.. they helped this night happen in major ways.. Just found out that one of Bryan's sisters starred in a Hollywood horror flick about students getting hacked to death in their beds ... so similar to what happened in Idaho ...
If you find out the name of the movie, please let me know. Thanks.

So? His sister has nothing to do with this. We should leave his family alone.

I think the police did a fabulous job getting all of the evidence together. It was pretty speedy actually
Ashley, they have to be so careful and gather a bunch of evidence pointing to the suspect. Remember, the defense will do all they can to get evidence thrown out. They will also claim there was a rush to judgement and narrow-mindedness.
All seriousness im so ecstatic that the family can begin to grieve knowing the killer was apprehended and will face justice.
Let’s hope he doesn’t get off because the LE screwed up.
