One of my uncles had a long jujube tree in the yard in south central Texas. They were fantastic fruit and we were allowed to eat as many as we wanted when we were kids. I never had any dehydrated ones, I think they kept those for themselves and didn't tell us kids about them.

I found your channel from John Coler's channel. I am so happy to see your videos. I live in Israel where it is dry but not as hot as Phoenix. Seeing what you plant helps me to decide on what to grow. I have no land yet as I live in an apartment but I grow lots of food in buckets on my 4 window sills. I hope to move to a place where I can have a small garden one day but it will certainly be in the dry areas. I can't take the humidity along the coast. So thanks for your videos. I am not a fan of facebook and other media but I will go through your videos. Best of luck to you.

Idk if anyone has mentioned... the fruit also has medicinal purposes and is used in tea as an energy boost (adrenal tonic), in the dried form. Just cut a few into quarters and boil for 15-20 minutes and sit for 10 min to cool/steep.

i actually am growing a small forest of Juju
    i have 2 sherwoods, 3 Li and a coco
last year i had only got a handful of fruit from 1 tree
this year i am getting dozens, and the other small trees
are just starting to produce a few.
i would say in 3 years i will be getting over 1000 fruit.
    yes... twice a year !
i like these guys a lot
i didnt think i would, because i generally do not like apples
but they are sooo much better
they are not "woody" like an apple
and they are much sweeter with ,more flavor.
    good luck on you harvest.

It's a great video for sensitising beginner gardeners, but it offers valuable insight for experienced ones as well. Way to go! I have been looking into jujube for many years. One would get conflicting information. Some people say it tastes good and some say it doesn't. The reason for this is many people don't have a complete info on jujube. Most of 'Li' jujube (actually the real ones) only taste good when fresh. When dried, they taste bland and become less sweet. There are good reasons to eat fresh jujubes. It has more vitamin C than orange. But dried jujube of certain cultivars tastes much better than the fresh ones. 'Lang' and 'Sherwood' are two examples. Some 'Li' jujube tastes very sweet when dried. However, I suspect they are not real 'Li' cultivar. I once went to a nursery that sell jujube trees. It has more than 100. 'Li' jujube trees. It was in late September and many fruits hung on the trees. I tasted dried jujube fruits from almost every each tree. (My stomach became sick from it.) The tastes ranged from deliciously sweet to bland depending on the tree. Most of them tasted bland. Some jujube cultivars only taste good fresh and some only taste good when dried. A few taste good both fresh and dried. However, half dried jujube doesn't taste good from any cultivar. Wait until it's fully cured. It may take several weeks for this to happen.

The sweetness has something to do with moisture. We like to cook Jujubes with rice pudding in bamboo leaf wraps. Before cooking them, we need to soak them in water for an hour so the dried jujubes can get fresh again. Usually, they taste very sweet.

Be warned about this tree. Its a very drought tolerant tree that sends out suckers 40feet away from the tree itself. Not sure if this tree is spineless, but they have massive sharp thorns.

@@thesnowflakediaries5267 Off shoots. However, this is only true for some and it also has to be dry too much for that. I think mine is okay because every time it rains my yard literally floods because everyone's rain flows into my yard. Great for starting an orchard.

Im loving your videos. they're so helpful. I found your channel while looking for video's on how to start growing my own food. Im not sure where to start. Also I have 2 dogs that like to eat all the grass in the yard, what's your advice on keeping them from eating the plants before they grow enough to harvest.

I just planted a 4' tall li jujube tree I bought from a nursery yesterday. I live in Illinois, zone 5. I am wondering if this li jujube tree is self pollinated or does it needs another tree to help with the pollination? also, what are some winter care tips for this plant? this is my first time planting this, hope it will survive Illinois winter.
