Yo, imagine if someone came to you, about same the time that RDJ was in prison, (around25 years ago). “Hey! Robert Downey Jr. is going to play Iron man and Doctor Doom in the one of the most profitable franchises of all time!”
Iron man is an antihero, he was a billionaire playboy trustfund kid who inherited his fathers weapons business and let his advanced weapons which he certainly had the tech to track and trace get into the hands of literal terrorist slavers. Then after bangin tonnes of broads nd havving his assistant clean up the cum rags and their clothes went on to make her his wife mother of his children. And in the midst of that by his own hands he almost caused the end of the world from tech he alone could have made and unleashed on the world after which he joined up with the gov because super powered people were too dangerous(he was the danger) and round them up and put them in a prison in international waters and no trial just for how they were born. Meanwhile he never destroyed his tech ot the things he made that caused the near world ending event he was almost soley responsible for.... and it just keeps going. Iron man is a fun character but hes a bit of a shitbag and if he was nuked from the timeline it would probably have been a good thing!
These are the same guys who told him he should die as Ironman. Edit: for clarity we all know that RDJ as Ironman died. I'm stating the fact that the Russos were responsible for that decision.
@@stupled nah RDJ says they talked him into it. Unless you mean higher ups tried to get the directors to convince him to so they wouldn't have to keep paying for him. That's wild.
@@sdab06that’s exactly what happened. It’s leaked from interviews that that’s the reason it went down that way, because they were originally going to have Cap snap the gauntlet.
Sad to see Kang Dynasty get scrapped, he's one of my all time favorite characters. Hope they'll recast him, and still give him some kind of role, although I doubt it.
Lol and right there you see the desperation from both marvel and even Canadian lad, we can't just pretend the whole setup across multiple movies and shows never happened... And victor von Downey in only 2 avengers movies? No more new setups being prepared in other movies? Not even an F4 movie? How are they going to establish the ultimate villain in such limited venues?
The dude has played Charlie Chaplin in the 90s. A fantastic underrated performance. He also did an amazing Aussie accent in Natural Born Killers. It's amazing how people have forgotten how good he is.
My biggest fear about this is how he is playing a character who is quite literally known for never seeing his face. The fact we never see it informs so much of his character and his worldview, changing it and making them still feel like Doom is a tall order. One I'd argue is impossible. Between RDJ's star power and ego, there is NO WAY they'll let him keep that mask on the majority of his screentime. But if they do actually keep the mask, then what would be the point of bringing back? Any plot points of "Oh, this villain looks like my friend! Oh noes!" will be practically all a moot point. Also, if we create such a strong connection between this Doom and the preexisting marvel characters, would that lessen the special relationship between Reed and Doom? That can be written around, but I think it would be a misstep for them to not be the main rivalry to one another. As for RDJ's ability to play this role, I really hope he's got the chops to play someone COMPLETELY different from himself. I'm not doubting his acting talent(he got a deserved Oscar for crying out loud), but the man seems to have a level of ego that brings at least some of his "Downey-isms" into every role he's done. Ultimately, I really don't like this casting at all, but it is nonetheless interesting as hell. They need an absolutely phenomenal story that convinces me that this choice was "necessary" instead of desperate to win me over. At least with McFeely attached, I have some level of confidence it'll end up good, but honestly that is the main thing keeping me in any way hyped for this.
Agreed. RDJ just literally pulled what he did in the first film revealing " I'm Iron Man" ... in this case "I'm Doom". Now everybody knows it's him and all they'll see si RDJ+Tony Stark playing Victor Doom. BAD CASTING
It would have been VERY interesting if they just didn't really tell anyone and seeing how that worked in the movie. Im sure people would notice fairly quick, but Im curious how long it may have taken
That isn't exactly how that works when Marvel is going through one of the biggest downfalls delivering flops after flops and being super woke.. Marvel needed something to revive them. If the year was 2015, we would not have gotten such a lame reveal, but it is 2025, Marvel is failing badly. Seeing Pedro’s Reed going up against RDJ’s Doom is gonna be so fucking raw. The hero of the Multiverse Saga Vs The once hero of the Infinity Saga. I genuinely think Doom is gonna be from the same universe too so they’d already have that dynamic, it’s gonna be so nice to see.

Between Deadpool and Wolverine and this, things can be better

I would definitely love to see that take where Victor enters the sacred timeline realizing a beloved hero that looks exactly like him died and takes full advantage of it to rise to the top. Plus like you said, watching Peter and all the other characters react to that would be great
So Doom is basically being reduced to "oh he looks like Tony Stark!!! It's evil Tony Stark now!!!" - really? Arguably the most integral Marvel villain and he can't even get his own name? Nothing about that sounds promising.
@@jaibruh well I don’t think him coming to the MCU again and you have everyone acting as he doesn’t look like the one dude who sacrificed his life to save everyone. Idk, I like the idea of seeing the impact it can have on characters like Peter or Sam Wilson. And no I don’t believe they will make one of the most memorable villains in Marvel just and evil Tony Stark. I’m just saying he can take advantage of the situation to elevate himself. You know what? We could see the “incident” in F4. If I recall correctly, Reed tries to stop Victor from using his machine, and Victor ends up blaming him for that as well.
Since the Marvel world has already introduced the multiverse concept, it's clear that this version of Dr. Doom, aka Victor Von Doom, is a variant from a different universe. Although he may resemble Tony Stark (a.k.a. Iron Man), he is a distinct character. The multiverse allows for endless possibilities, making it exciting to see him face off against Marvel heroes. The twist of him looking like Tony Stark but being a different person altogether will surely create a thrilling and challenging situation for the heroes to navigate.
its really cool finally after 2019 we have received some good news also I am hoping if they could bring chris evans but a some villan supporting Dr.Doom
I honestly hope he just plays a variant of Dr. Doom, a smaller role of sorts. That would be such a waste of so many other potential A-list actors. @@AychSkwairdI am highly doubtful they would reveal a small role variant of Doom being played by none other than THE RDJ at a comic con when the shock value would have more impact in film. It feels like, from the way this just went down, he will be playing the Doom our Avengers go up against, whether he’s a variant or the actual doom.
I hope that RDJ’s Doom is the story about Tony Stark/Iron Man becoming Doom in another universe. I would love to see the story of how he became the villain instead of the hero.
Would be cool to see a version of Tony that built the missile willingly and kept building missiles till he becomes doom. But whatever they decide I’m excited for
I agree this is what it should be. A version of tony stark who’s mum was killed as a kid. He tries to retrieve her soul, but when he can’t do it with technology he goes to the sanctum sanctorum to learn magic. He grows up to be really twisted and eventually conquers Sokovia, making it Latveria
One of the things I liked the least about the post-endgame mcu fandom is the impatience, you haven't even been 1 day after the announcement and they already think it's garbage, one of the worst castings in Marvel, etc. I believe that if Feige makes such an important decision it must be for more than just "easy guaranteed success", he cares about narrative and learning from some failures
To be fair the last like 10-15 movies have been nothing but build ups for secret wars. Before endgame movies actually fit in the movie and didn’t entirely rely on a build up for a bigger movie.
I'm honestly less pissed at the casting and more upset that this might mean they're completely ditching Kang after all the last 4 years of buildup. I know Anti-Man 3 did him dirty, but he's still a really interesting character and I want to see his full story, not have him just written out off-screen and hand-waved away to be replaced by Doom halfway through his own saga.
The casting of RDJ as Dr Doom is fantastic news. It’s a great way to sell the next set of avengers movies to the wider audience due to Downey’s bonafide star power. Feige said that Downey would never return as Iron Man and that they are preserving his death. They will never tarnish his death by bringing him back. However Fiege never said RDJ couldn’t return by playing another character and therein lies the ingenuity in this casting decision. He’s a great actor and I’m certain this is going to be completely unrelated/disconnected from iron man. He is essentially playing a new role and honestly it fits. Doom needs to make a grand entrance into the MCU and with Downey behind the mask, he’ll do just that.
@@jessed5057 No it’s ingenious. Disney are running a business. Robert is their biggest draw. It would be cheap to bring him back as Ironman, that would tarnish and ruin his death and arc. We can all agree. However as doom he will never take the mask off. This will allow Downey to deliver a distinct performance. Completely distinguished from Ironman because by keeping the mask on, this will add to the suspension of disbelief. You have to see it from an artistic perspective. If you were an actor or producer it would make perfect sense. However you are just a fan or a spectator therefore your viewpoint is skewered. I’m genuinely disappointed that the majority of people cannot see the ingenuity in this. I never expected Downey to play doom but now I’m thrilled because he’s going to deliver. This is something worth the investment. No matter what everyone will be back to see this during release, including you my dear.
People tend to forget that we are now in the multiverse era of the MCU. Just because they cast RDJ as Dr. Doom, doesn't mean he will ALWAYS be THE Dr. Doom. My theory is that RDJ will be the main antagonist of Avengers Doomsday, but will eventually be defeated by the Avengers itself - or most likely since it's RDJ, they would somewhat "convince" him to become one of the good guys. There is however another Dr. Doom lurking behind the scenes and studying every Avengers in every universe, and how to defeat them - and that will be Cillian Murphy's Dr. Doom. I could be very wrong but I think Cillian (or another actor) playing a much superior variant of Dr. Doom will be the main antagonist on Secret Wars, and RDJ's doom will be on the side of the Avengers during that movie.
That’s the problem with multiverses.. There’s no accountability for nothing - it is lazy writing. This guy dies here, but hey, don’t be sad, we’ll bring him back over here.
That will be not good. I mean the planet of avengers are not confused by the identity. They will know the fact he is Tony stark the hype will be high. If he becomes good guy😅
@@hithere_1967 It is but marvel failed to deliver. They thought more budget has to come. But multi-verse you can add more people. Action might be low on this but marvel just lossing their mind 😅
@@hithere_1967 it's just what they've been doing with the comics. It allows them more room for creativity and more room for errors or inconsistencies. Sometimes they can completely retell a story differently. I mean if they move the comics to the screen, this actually aligns with their premise.
@Vexer70 I disagree man, so many actors started in the MCU like that and people connected almost instantly with them and bringing Cillian Murphy or someone else with an already advanced career, wouldn't have been that difficult.
@@Vexer70 i agree with william look murphy isnt a new actor either he has dropped some of the biggest banger in past and even you cannot doubt on his acting skills…look i dont mind rdj being dr doom my point is murphy would ve been way better as deadpool bought some really good hype back and seeinh cillian murphy as dr doom not as much as rdj but wouldve amazed fans a lot too + comic accurate cast
My Dude says Marvel isn't desparate @6:08 Same Dude says: "Dr Doom is not a simple character to play so any new actor would either hit ir or miss it and if they do miss it, it is game over for Marvel" It is also interesting that you are referencing Oppenheimer and Oscars cause there is someone who is also worthy to play Doom from there... Cillian Murphy and his Oscar says hi to you!
That statement does sound strange. No one that know Dr. Doom and have capability of thinking said Marvel should give Dr. Doom to newbie actor/actress, literally no one can think of that kind of crazy idea.
I love the reasons why RDJ could be Doctor Doom, but I have a more poetic reason although he would keep the name Tony as he transitions to Doctor Doom: We've seen Tony go through his Best life recovering from being a philanthropist playboy billionaire asshole with the help of Pepper Potts being his anchor and keeping him from drifting off as a horrible person as he continues making suits and wearing the name Iron Man... What if Tony Never Had Pepper in his life to keep him on the path to being a hero? Maybe she died causing Tony to lose more of his heart as he lost the one who he would devote his heart to. Maybe she never entered his life and his bachelor life continued giving him enemy after enemy throughout the Ironman series of MCU movies and he turns colder as he just Slays each of them one by one, or maybe even absorbing their life force cause he could down the line learn how to absorb particles from lifeforms such as humans. Either way, I feel like Pepper Potts would be a Great reason why Tony may become Doom as he goes down a darker path than the path we joined the original Tony on.
I love Robert Downley Jr he was so good on every Marvel movie and Avengers Endgame I cried so much when Tony Stark died and now he’s playing as the Villain basically Victor Von Doom as Doctor Doom which is going to be fun to watch
Oh I’m gonna fuckin love seeing him as Dr Doom, not to mention the reaction of the characters who finds out Doom is Tony’s doppelganger! If any of the avengers find out they’re gonna have a dilemma being reminded of Tony and his sacrifice but see someone with his face committing evil

RDJ auditioned for Dr Doom before but wasn’t chosen, shortly after he took on Iron Man and the rest is history. This was something that Im sure took little convincing for RDJ to come on and do something he legitimately wanted to do before. Have they not learned enough about planning? Thanos only became the enigmatic villain he was, because he has been present since the first avenger. And now they suddenly revealed a whole new villain that's never been shown anywhere, going to directly play in his own movie. This is just Kang's quantumania but with even less build up

I still dont understand. Is RDJ playing an entirely different character and he happens to look like Tony Stark because Multiverse? Or is he playing an evil version of Tony Stark that takes up the mantra of Doom?
@@TheCanadianLadThey could be adapting "Infamous Ironman", as a variant of Victor Von Doom that looks like Tony Stark. For the love of god he’s not playing a stark variant it’s just doom. MCU doom bears no relation to tony stark. Two completely different characters. Downey Junior is an actor playing two different roles. Jesus how hard is that to understand? It’s not rocket science. Many actors have played different roles and different characters in the same shared universe. It’s a thing. Like Chris Evans who’s reprised the role of playing Johnny Storm in Deadpool 3. I actually don’t think they have anything compelling enough to justify completely revamping the character of Doctor Doom. He’s not some vessel for cheap member berries stunt casting he’s an actual character with rich history and specific attributes that make him work. Excited how he portray as a villain, he’s been known as a hero since 2008.

Doesn’t fit doesn’t make sense just a cheap cop out to try to get the fans back
@@jessed5057 No it’s ingenious. Brod died a hero and still lived long enough to become a villain.
So no RDJ as an Iron Man variant in Secret Wars?
That’s the problem with multiverses.. There’s no accountability for nothing - it is lazy writing. This guy dies here, but hey, don’t be sad, we’ll bring him back over here.

I love the reasons why RDJ could be Doctor Doom, but I have a more poetic reason although he would keep the name Tony as he transitions to Doctor Doom:
We've seen Tony go through his Best life recovering from being a philanthropist playboy billionaire asshole with the help of Pepper Potts being his anchor and keeping him from drifting off as a horrible person as he continues making suits and wearing the name Iron Man...

Feige said Downey will never return to play Ironman. They are preserving his death. Dr Doom is a new chapter in the acting career of of Downey. That’s why they brought him back silly. 🤦🏿♂️ They brought him back so that he can sell the next avengers movie to the wider audience as its tentpole villain. Simple. Nothing more, nothing less
Finally! Someone who sees the potential!
Still have Tony stark vibes with that mask removal lol
I actually don’t think they have anything compelling enough to justify completely revamping the character of Doctor Doom. He’s not some vessel for cheap member berries stunt casting he’s an actual character with rich history and specific attributes that make him work. They did this purely out of desperation for Infinity Saga level hype and I’m done pretending Marvel is above this kind of cheap, soulless money grab mentality. They’re not and this proves it.
Agreed Cillian Murphy would have killed this role. He has that charming yet sinister feel.
@@ps3addictionz334Bro doom has a mask, we won’t even see his face for like 90% of the movie.
The image of RDJ as Iron Man is the biggest issue for me.i def feel like they'll make Dr Doom more like Tony Stark, who knows.
Unless they decide to keep the mask on which I doubt.
@@ps3addictionz334how do you know they didn't have a discussion with Murphy and he turned it down? Bottom line is there is a legit story you can tell that would make this make sense. There's a literal comic where doom and stark swapped bodies. Y'all can throw out all the names y'all want but they still have to sign on.
Keep yapping go cry me a river
