    If the brain itself is 60% fat, could eliminating fat and cholesterol from your diet do more harm than good? Especially when it comes to optimizing your brain? Here, Daniel Amen, MD shares a different way to look at cholesterol and fat, and the role each one plays in keeping the brain healthy.

    I was eating a super low fat diet based on what bodybuilding magazines were telling me. I am sure a few people did it, just not to the extreme. I did it without much cheating. What happened to me one day was that I started having seizures. Upon studying what to eat for brain health... is fat in the diet. So I have changed my diet around completely to move towards a much healthier brain and hopefully no future seizures.

    im glad the youtube algorithm is training its neural networks to optimize its video sources. Back in 2014 I searched up "the brain and cholesterol" and got a video saying that fat and cholesterol leads to brain fog. Now, I am getting different information saying that cholesterol and fat is actually a good thing.
    Good job youtube! keep training the algorithm

      Isn’t it just maddening!? And Asians eat a relatively low fat diet and they are known for their intelligence and extremely low rates of Alzheimer’s. Everything is so confusing!

    Thanks for sharing this video! To add to this, signs of not consuming or absorbing enough fat include: dry flaky skin, brittle nails back of the arm bumps, attention deficit disorder, and poor wound healing!

    Dr. Amen is spot on as usual. It would have been helpful in the video to mention who Dr Amen is to show why he is qualified to give such an insightful and factual delivery vs all the other quack doctors out there.

    You say our brains are made out of cholesterol, and then you talk about seed oils? Your brain is made out of the same stuff as eggs, butter, bacon grease, and the fat or ruminants: ANIMAL FATS.

    Oh my goodness…. The conversation about fats and colesterol started at least 10 years ago, wow. Except now we know that our fats should come 99% from animals especially ruminate/red meat.

      Everything in nature has different effects on the body, but nothing is as vital to the body as water. So when in doubt, drink water. Then...
      (At risk of saying the often more well-known sorts of things...):
      Vegetables have protein, carbs in some veggies more than others, but not quite in the concentration that grains or esp. fruit have carbs. Colorful veggies are generally really low in calories, so if you are emphasizing veggies in your diet, you may need a few other sources of calories in your diet to feel more satiated... Veggies are generally very rich in vitamins and minerals-Vit. A, C, K, calcium, etc. Nature's "hospital", basically. Herbs and spices are similar in many respects to veggies, just stronger flavors and even less calories, for the most part... Herbal tea = same deal. Mushrooms have a bit of Vitamin D... Seaweed has lots of iodine. Etc.
      Macronutrients...
      Protein helps someone not feel hungry, and are essential for countless bodily processes. Carbs increase appetite and are easy for the body to use immediately for energy. Fats help someone be mellower and more mentally relaxed, efficient, rejuvenated, feeling good, etc.
      Back to food groups...
      Avocados and seeds have all three macros-fats, protein and carbs. Vitamin E big time, plus all sorts of other nutrients, essential fatty acids, etc.
      Nuts have protein and fats. Olives are, to my knowledge, mostly fats. Also big into MINERALS like selenium, zinc, copper, biotin, also vitamin E, etc.
      Beans are protein and carbs, like veggies, but have even more fiber and calories. The carbs in beans don't really spike blood sugar... Some beans, like adzuki beans, are insanely nutritious, and have sky high levels of magnesium, potassium, etc.
      Fruits are basically carbs and fiber. Big into Vitamin C, potassium, folate, etc...
      Grains are carbs and protein, more in that order, with fiber. B vitamins, chromium, etc. Potatoes (lots of minerals, etc.) are mostly carbs, as is corn.
      Dairy and fish/eggs/poultry/meats are protein and fats. Minerals like iron and zinc, iodine in fish and eggs, fish and dairy having Vit. D generally, plus eggs, complete proteins, very filling, in 3rd place in calorie concentration (with meat, poultry and dairy) behind nuts (#2) and oils (#1). The lack of fiber in animal foods, plus the lack of bioflavinoids in animal foods (and many other such things) makes animal foods more of a "fill you up" sort of food, but not maintenance/have everything running in pristine condition, sorts of foods...
      A little dark chocolate, honey, etc. is nice too.
      So cheese and fruit? Why limit yourself? Lots of things cause anxiety. Why not eat more plant foods higher in fats, like nuts, olives and avocado?

      you are addicted to sugar. it is not possible to cut sugar cold turkey, it takes time. Almost all cell consume glucose but only liver can break fructose.

      You eat to few carbs. Increase the fruits. Like try 5 banana or 5 apples. Experiment by mixing fruits like grapes etc. Strawberry and sugar is good. Your brain wants the fat in cheese. Sat fats are bad. Eat veggie stir fry with olive oil. I roast mines with an air fryer or broiler. Eat less cheese. When you know it's the fat and carbs it is easy to figure out what to do. You just need to replace it with healthy fats and carbs. I recommend birds eye stir fry vegetables (frozen), spicy stir fry sauce from the Asian section, and add some red potatoes for carbs in an air fryer or broiler. If you want protein dice one tofurky Italian sausage into medallions (cook in a frying pan separate). You will be in heaven. Remember you want the fats and carbs. Swap them out for healthy alternatives. I had to figure it out to. This swap the nasty for the healthy alternatives worked wonders. Check an online nutrition facts search. it will teach you the macro nutrients you need to swap.

      Lol 😂 basic physiology if you can’t keep up with the conversation without demanding proof then maybe you should go do your own research. Healthy fats look like saturated fat and cholesterol. Your brain recycles fats do you want to end up with highly unstable LCPUFAs in your brain? I think not

  • @serferten
    @serferten 9 років тому +3

    This sounds sensible, yet he's in the minority. How to make real sense of it all. I've been vegan for many years and raised by fat consumption (coconut, nut butters etc) and do seem to feel better/

    • @prudniksthumb3781
      @prudniksthumb3781 3 роки тому

      PUFAs are the vegan approach to a proper diet. You need to eat mostly saturated fat and cholesterol. PUFAs are fat to unstable when they meet up with the iron overload in your tissues. This creates lipofuscin. Eat stable fats. Don’t heat any oil except coconut oil or animal fats. Not even olive or avocado

    • @prudniksthumb3781
      @prudniksthumb3781 3 роки тому

      There are many vegans supplementing beef liver just to feel better. Newsflash you have a copper deficiency and your vegetable are full of rocks from NPK fertilizer. What do they water those greens with? Filtered water? Nah I think it’s the water with 10,000 chemicals
