    This is nice and all but... All anyone really needs is: Any page protector that you can find in some old notebook you find around the house. Some duct tape, either folks it over the top edge of the page protector on stick two sticky sides together, trapping the plastic in between. Make the duct tape long enough to wrap around your head with a little overlap. Staple rubber bands to the duct tape such that it will pull the duct-tape head-band tight enough to stay on. Leave in sun for several hours to disinfect.

      We have been doing some major research on what type of materials are best for face masks and have finally come to a conclusion. The melt blow filter material which is used as the internal filter and is approved by the FDA is on the way and we will have tons of spun bonded polyurethane fabric as well for the inside and outside of the face mask. As soon as all the materials arrive we plan on making a video.

    Will you guys be doing a video on how to make the Olson masks? Just curious, as I am making some now, and had to revert to my old sewing machine because it kept bunching up in the corners with the thin fabric. I know it’s got to be a matter of my tension setting or something, but haven’t figured it out yet, as I am new to having a Sailrite. I love it for heavy fabrics, but am having issues with the cotton fabrics, so was hoping for a video on that type of mask, so I can possibly see what exactly needs adjusted. I’ll re-review your other videos on the tension setting in the meantime however, as they are very helpful, as is this video!! Thanks so much!

    Thanks Sailrite! One question ...with the top sealed off by the foam, do you not get some fogging on the mask? I had made something similar a week ago and found I needed to vent the top to avoid that since breath vapor rises like steam and coats the mask. Really showed up outside where it is still below freezing here..

    • @SailriteDIY
      @SailriteDIY  4 роки тому

      Yes, you can get some fogging, but even with venting that can happen on most masks. Having the open bottom and sides reduces the fogging, but it still can happen.

    • @boa9535
      @boa9535 4 роки тому

      Sailrite: it happens when you go from warm to hot or hot to cold. So, you have to wait a moment or maybe wipe it off on the inside with a clean towelette. Then it’s harder to read with it on. But I felt safer. A lot of non believers around me. A lot of disgusted people but no one tried to pull it off, which is what I was afraid of.
      I wipe mine down with disinfectant and let it dry. I reuse it.

    This is a greatest idea. The Shield is mounted to a Head Band! You guys are the best. So the shield is based on a 15" straight line of clear bendable vinyl with velcrow extenders. Cool!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Any way we can take an elastic stretchy material under the shield with a filter on the bottom so the shield can surround you and the filter instead will be on the elastic neck part of the device instead of directly on your face? I have an idea that will work. Make sure elastic is not too tight to choke you with flexible material. Basically no way for any oxygen to get through but through the neck area that is filtered. So the shield goes 360 degrees around the head and the elastic part touches the neck and has a filter where the elastic isn't. Just like the top you stitch it on. The other way i bet this will work is with some gorilla glue or epoxy if you don't know how to sew. Let it dry before you use it. In a way it will grip like one of those choker necklaces. Air can still get through the mask around the bottom of the mask right above the elastic material. You may want to use an anti fogging material. i.imgur.com/V74QJag.png This is a bad drawing of my idea.
    Changed idea slightly. Where the blue is from bottom of ear use your fabric you can breath through. This will be attached to the shield. You can do the same thing from bottom of shield under the chin attached to your neck band or choker type necklace. The only way air will get through is through your breathable fabric filter. It will still flex by crinkling a little bit. The shield itself is a stiffer plastic. You may want this to angle slightly so there is room for air to go through the fabric filter and not close shut on you. The last thing make sure it doesn't fog up. You are now free to move head like normal. Eyes, nose, and mouth and ears are now protected. Materials are up to use to decide. I was thinking of a stiff bag material like an aldies bag for the back section to bottom of ear attached to shield there. The front of the neck was where i wanted to put the breathable filter and i needed flex so we can turn our heads like normal and still look up and down.

    I'm legally blind and I use a power chair. I as well am on a very low fixed income. It would be nice to have a face mask that is designed to be ReUsed. At the same time I have a very Low Immune System and because of my eye vision I usually wear a base ball cap. If there was a face shield that could either accommodate a base ball cap or have a Bill that can help you when you are out and about and you are wearing your mask underneath it. At the same time I don't have a sowing machine and it would be nice to know how to make a reUsable face shield that I don't need a sowing machine? I know if one is made the right way it can be cleaned properly and still stop things like Rain and other Wet droplets from destroying your mask below.

    What about for people that are not docters. You can make one with a hat so it slips on the top of the hat and goes all around your head and this gives your face some more space from the plastic. Make sure the plastic is at least two feet long down your face.

    Why make a long video when you could have done it for 3 minutes tops! Tsk tsk

      Andrea Schinnerling have you not seen a face mask before?
      cut a rectangle large enough to cover your face and pleat 3 times (at least). Evenly space the pleats. fold & sew the raw edges over cleanly. cut 2 elastic strings. sew one elastic on the top & bottom left. sew the other elastic at the top & bottom right.
      obviously, you’ll want to use a tightly knitted fabric.
      nifty just uploaded a face mask tutorial -> ua-cam.com/video/RRofKRr5_JM/v-deo.html

      Claire Conover I was hoping to see a more complex mask, something like the N 95

      Andrea Schinnerling I don’t think anyone’s going to be able to give you a diy for that.
      that one’s molded on specialized equipment. pressing store bought fabrics over a mold would likely stretch & loosen the knit.

      Claire Conover I can still ask, cant I? Plus you can’t be sure if they would or not be able to do a DIY.

      N95 is about the worst mask available. Its equivalent or MAYBE a step up from bandana.
