@@OregonLivingwithJessyRose Do not retire just yet!!! Need to have you as my realtor or real estate consultant before the end of 2024. Coming from Oly Pen
@OregonLivingwithJessyRose rise in home cost happens in areas where it becomes overpopulated. It's not just due to the economy. Been living in Oregon since 2005. Prices were affordable for the first 5 years as we saw rent go up pretty fast after 2010, while people from mostly California started moving in, driving the prices way up.
Do you see the housing market subsiding and becoming more realistic? Seems like over the past 3-5 year period people started asking 2x - 3x the price they paid for a home, driving prices through the roof.
All of the economists I follow do not see the inflation correcting for several years. I have seen prices steady, but not necessarily decline very much. Properties are definitely staying on the market longer, instead of being snatched up in a few days. While these things do help buyers some, I just don’t see home prices reverting to what they were before Covid. I know it’s very discouraging, but try and remind yourself that we have been here before! It’s really difficult for first time homebuyers, but those who have been in the market for longer have rode the ups and downs. Real estate is still a good investment especially compared to current rental prices.
Thank you so much for the comments! Yes the market is a little crazy, but if you sell and are planning to buy a new home, you'll be faced with the same high prices. So guess it's a catch 22. We are lucky in the fact that we would be selling a home and then buying, so that helps tremendously. I do worry about the kids starting out though. Our kid will be out of college in a couple of years and wonder what the market will look like for him. Love OR, especially the Hood River area. Had to be a least 15 years since we've been there (we are in NC). Was good to catch up with friends and see how everything has changed!
Oregon is a great place to live but their financial management is really bad. They bring a lot of tax money to Salem but the distribution is not fair. If you have a home on the coast, you pay the tax but you do not get the fire, health, highway, or zoning protection that you deserve. The state regulates the zoning beyond the power of the county and it minimizes the benefits to the counties. The resources of the state are amazing but the people in charge do not no how to handle it. Timber and agriculture create tons of money which is used to enforce a failing economy in Portland. Iguana
I lived in Oregon for over 35 years. The place sucks. Portland is a filthy cesspool. The rest of the state is rainy and nasty most of the time. I don't like cold gloomy days and Oregon is always that way. July 5 - October 5 is the only nice time of year.
A coworker of mine who was from Oregon for 10+ years said that is against the law to fill your own gas without someone doing it for you. Is that true and is that still a thing?
Actually, that used to be the law! I think the idea was that it kept people employed (gas attendants) and the argument was that it was for “safety.” It’s no longer the law!
Jess, I just retired in March. Oregon might make sense since I don't need a job and I will be coming out of a couple of properties that I have equity in to purchase something. I'm sorry that happened and you were disappointed! Prices vary a LOT throughout Oregon. Brownsville is between Salem and Eugene, and along I5, so that drives up prices a bit. Are there any other locations you are interested in?
Great question! It definitely depends on where you are in Oregon. Central, Eastern, and Southern Oregon do have snowy winters, whereas the "valley" or I-5 Corridor from Portland down to Eugene tends to have mild weather. Pendleton certainly doesn't have weather like this EVERY year, but some winters are colder than others. It won't last long! I hope you're staying warm!

I moved here from the Midwest. If I had to do it all over again, I would have done it sooner. No sales tax, reasonable property taxes are nice. It is not true that Oregon has high taxes for everyone. Hello Jessie Again Can You Do A Video On All Major Hospitals Within 2 Hours Of The Capital Of Oregon And Or Portland? Trying To Get An Idea Of Where To Start My First Home Process In This New Region 😊
Give me a call and we can discuss- two hours from Salem and Portland opens up a huge area, it's about 2 hours West to the Coast, so you would be good all along the top half of the Coast. Going East, there are hospitals in Hood River and The Dalles. The mountain range blocks you from travelling East two hours from Salem, so you would be looking mostly South to Roseburg. There are Hospitals all along the I5 towns, so Roseburg, Eugene, Corvallis. Each of those towns has a unique culture and the medical centers would as well. 541-993-5936 is my number, call or text any time!

Ok so what are the Tax breaks for disabled veterans? Do they pay property tax? Also we are from Washington moved to Texas and looking at Oregon for a forever home. What areas would you suggest? Thank you
Hi Jake! The tax exemption has a few requirements: www.oregon.gov/dor/forms/FormsPubs/veteran-spouse-exemption_310-676.pdf As far as where to live, it depends on what you like. Do you prefer urban or rural areas? How do you feel about rain, snow, weather in general? You should make a list of “must have’s, wants, and deal breakers” and give me a call at 541-993-5936.
I love Oregon. My nephew and his wife live there. My aunt lives in Washington just over the Colubia River. I would love to relocate, however, my concern is that I am a teacher. I have looked at prices of rentals and everything seems very expensive on a teacher's salary. Do you have any information regarding affordable housing that is safe and near the coast in Oregon? I also have a concern with the amount of homeless people living in the area. I grew up near a big city and this is something you see but the smaller cities in Oregon seem to have been taken over by homeless encampments. It makes me sad to see this becuase if is such a beautiful area. Also, did Oregon decriminalize drugs? These are topics that make me wonder about moving.
Hello Anne! Every town is different, but I do not see many homeless encampments in smaller towns, or towns along the Coast. This is likely because they don't have the services there that are available in Portland, Salem, Eugene, etc. As far as decriminalization, if a person is found with a small amount of drugs, they receive a ticket and the option of substance abuse treatment and counseling, rather than being put in Jail. Each town is totally different as far as teacher's salary and housing. I suggest narrowing it down to a few towns along the Coast that you are interested in, and focusing your search there. If you want to buy, you can search here: jessyrose.totalbendrealestate.com/. If you want to rent, I suggest googling property management companies, and contacting them. Good luck and let me know if I can help!
Chiloquin is beautiful! If you want to buy cheap land on the Klamath River that's where to go. You're close to Klamath Falls and a few other small towns like Bonanza. Idaho's too expensive too. The tech companies come in, take over and leave no room for middle class people, teachers. You'd think a city or community would want teachers to live in their communities. We're basically too tired to cause any trouble. These places want rich techies living their. Now Oregon is seeing the problems that big cities have always dealt with, homelessness, and they're making it worse. Who decided to decriminalize drugs? I consider myself on the liberal side but I have common sense. Who wants to pay a ton of money to live next to a homeless encampment.
@@Azazel2024 nowhere is 100% one political party or have all the same views . respecting your neighbors is all that is important, living is a bubble of like minded people is not healthy.
This realtor missed a lot of facts. Big separation in economic groups. Oregon is a VERY liberal state Lots of poverty and small towns where the mill industry has collapsed. Eastern Oregon is basically a desert. Oregon has about six months of rain every year. Beautiful summers
I would seriously consider coming for an extended stay visit before considering the move to Oregon. Best to check it out during its less than desirable fall winter seasons to get a real understanding of grey gloomy rain wet and depressing climate that will be a majority of the months of the year. Also be certain to actually research the communities surrounding the area you are considering. Forget Portland or Salem both are pretty much a lost cause hell on earth. But if you enjoy the Seattle style "Chaz" lifestyle, just on a spread out city wide version, then you may actually enjoy either of these larger cities and communities. Anything west of I-5 corridor to the ocean communities would be best to be very leary about and do a lot of homework on why these towns communities are as sparse and isolated as they appear to be. Youll be shocked on who, how they are dictated and ran. City council and local government are usually very left wing liberalism heavy. And the Boss Hogs of these communities dont like giving up control by having a lot of newer non-conforming people in their tightly controlled communities. Status and titles along with the prestige of small town predominant status is key to their survival. Most are long term locals that will not defy their community masters and dislike newcomers. Just a peice of advice and my own personal opinion based on experience.
Why did you fail to mention Southern Oregon... wineries, skiing, Shakespeare, the Britt Music Festival are all among the benefits of this area, oh and lets not forget the beautiful Rogue River forests and Crater Lake, and so much more!
Lived in Oregon for 23 years. I've completely divested from the state, moved and reinvested elsewhere. Oregon was a beautiful state, but now the people, the bureaucracy, lack of law enforcement, liberal politics etc has created a volatile environment in which to live and invest. If you want peace, it's not on the west coast and certainly not in Oregon. The weather sucks as well.
If you want to live in beauty and conservative values live anywhere except Portland, Salem, or Eugene. If you really like bad smells, filthy streets, and drugs Portland is where you will enjoy living the most
Just don't move to Oregon. It has become overcrowded and way more expensive than it should be. Everything from food to rent has doubled in the past 10 years. Good luck finding an apartment, let alone a home, you won't.
I'm sorry that has been your experience! I love living here, and I help people find homes that they love all the time. I think you are right about inflation- it has affected the entire country, though.
You would hate to have been a Texan over the last 5 years. I’m not even in one of the large cities that have experienced the most boom, but for real estate and groceries to blow up by 200% and what were already low wages to have only increased in my area like 15%, we are struggling to survive in Texas with regular Texas people money.
@@3DEditor it’s painfully true. I’ve lived here my entire life and as soon as my daughter finishes school, we intend to leave. Oregon is a place we really love and a big contender.
@BlushingAshley Really think about the drastic weather differences. If you never heard of seasonal affective disorder, you should take that into serious consideration. People who are affected by it most, are those who are used to sunnier warmer weather year round. You either have to make drastic lifestyle changes to combat it, or you'll deal with serious health issues. Most people who can't handle the cloudy rainy weather 3/4 of the year, end up moving back to sunnier states within the first year. If you do move to Oregon, it would be a mistake to move anywhere near the Portland region within a 100 mile radius. It's overly crowded and rent has doubled, nearly tripled over the past 20 years. Part of it's due to rising inflation, while a major factor is due to overpopulation causing rise in cost of living, (median household income).

Idaho is full as well. Try Wyoming.
@@samiamdj8603Wyoming is getting full and more expensive, go to Mexico.
LOL. Idaho beautiful, but winters too long in the north
I'm a democrat living in a red county on the east side of the Cascades, there are conservatives in abundance on the westside of southern Oregon.
And? Whats your point
Hi JP! I’ll definitely be doing videos about some of the smaller towns and Eastern Oregon as well. 😁
It's only liberal in certain areas like Portland. There's still plenty of Republicans in this state LOL
Don't California cate Oregon.
Californicate
Too late.
Do not move here.
Why did you fail to mention Southern Oregon... wineries, skiing, Shakespeare, the Britt Music Festival are all among the benefits of this area, oh and lets not forget the beautiful Rogue River forests and Crater Lake, and so much more!
You are right!! I did not mention it near enough- there is so much to say, I intend on doing an entirely separate video on that area. Stay tuned!!
Don’t mention Southern Oregon please, thank you😅 it’s already started
@@OregonLivingwithJessyRose don’t disrespect me looking like a half baked Ricki lake ya heard😂
Cute. Keeps land for the wealthy and corporations and timber companies.
It’s not for everyone!
If you want to live in beauty and conservative values live anywhere except Portland, Salem, or Eugene. If you really like bad smells, filthy streets, and drugs Portland is where you will enjoy living the most
The answer is no
Just don't move to Oregon.
@BlushingAshley Texas doesn't disappoint, when they say "Everything is bigger in Texas". That includes cost of living.
If you are coming from California, then no.
Please don't !!
Nope! Keep it to yourself please!!
That smile makes you look like a prisoner omg hell no im leaving.
If I move to Oregon from San Diego, Ca, I won't move in to the liberals areas where drugs and crimes usually occurs. lol
conservatives familiar with firearms should move here. Three cities ruin an otherwise fantastic state,
Nope didn't like living there😮 probably the worst place i have lived. Not much sun 🌞😢 just my opinion 😊
Hi Abraham! I’m sorry it didn’t work out for you! If you go East of Portland a couple of hours, past the “rain shadow,” there’s a lot more sun!
@@OregonLivingwithJessyRose don't get me wrong it's one of the most beautiful beautiful places. Lots of cool outdoor stuff to do and see. I lived in Beaverton and worked all over Oregon and Washington. Just too cold and rainy for me 😔 I like hot weather 🌡️✌️✌️✌️
Lots of sun in the southern end of the state. We are generally out of the northern rain belt.
Not if you're smart, no . But keep lying to people
Oregon sucks
The WHOLE state ???? Not likely
Hell no.
Like anything that was good, the life has been sucked out of it. Oregon is no exception to that. and right now is the best time to go. rain, homeless, drugs, overpriced real estate. taxes, lousy schools. bad roads. self serving local government. Stay away.
Tex-Ass is calling. 😂
It’s like tops, if you like modern liberalism, rain, and blue-haired lesbians.
are they fat pierced and tatted up-sounds great
Eastern Oregon votes for sanity but it’s a desert here, avoid at all costs
Anyone wanting to move very far east will want to check with the water man first for sure!
@@OregonLivingwithJessyRose Actually , this planet has PLENTY of both water and oil. There are lies by the govt saying otherwise and restricting. The truth WILL come out
