    Very nice video Jessy❣️. You have done a fantastic job of describing this wonderful place❣️. Just a short distance from chaotic Greater Portland, yet still close enough to drive back in quickly if need to. Lastly the high desert sun puts everyone in a happy state of mind, looking forward to moving into the area asap for I’m already loving the area! Thanks for putting together this video ❣️😍 CC

    Im almost 40 and looking at moving to the coastal area next year. I love the whole coast, but want to find a place thats well balanced polically, while having a decent job market. And suggestions?

    • @OregonLivingwithJessyRose
      @OregonLivingwithJessyRose Місяць тому

      Hello! The job market depends on the type of work you do. There's definitely tourism and fishing based jobs, of course. As far as "balanced politically," I'm not sure there's a place on this planet that is balanced right now lol! Things seem to be very separated. The further you go from Portland and the I-5 Corridor, the more red the map gets. However, as long as you are in the State of Oregon, Dems do have a super-majority in the legislature and therefore control policy. Give me a call if you want to talk more specifics!

    By Salt Lake City standards, Portland gets no summer or winter, but rather it seems like Spring and Fall all year to me, and the rain is usually light enough that you can ride your bike all year with just a good hoodie.

    I moved here from the Midwest. If I had to do it all over again, I would have done it sooner. No sales tax, reasonable property taxes are nice. It is not true that Oregon has high taxes for everyone. Taxes are on a situational basis. Social Security is not taxed, for example. My home is estimated at $780,000. My taxes are $4000.

    I moved to Newport 30 years ago. I'm a credentialed professional. I married someone who was born here. Between us, we've raised seven children. From as early as we could discuss the issue, we've told all of them that they could not stay in Newport. Honestly, unless you have some credentials, the incomes here do not support a happy life. They have moved to the Willamette valley and California and all are doing well. The high cost of living and lack of jobs that pay a decent wage that can support a life here are a problem. There are some large businesses such as Georgia Pacific but the mainstays from the past like commercial fishing are slowly going away. Unless you're able to work remotely with the substantial income, the coast is a nice place to visit but I wouldn't recommending trying to make a life here.

    As others have said your recap of living on the coast spot on. We are fortunate to have retired a couple of years ago and live in Oceanside. There is not a day that goes by where we look left and right on the beaches and feel we are on a deserted island with beach to ourselves. The beauty is unmatched anywhere. A NatGeo photographer lives in Oceanside and claims it is the most beautiful place in the world. I am amazed however how many people do not take advantage of the outdoor activities one can do here, from fishing in the surf, rivers, and jetty’s, to kayaking, boating, crabbing, clamming, hiking, mussel foraging. I think the Oregon coast is the best kept secret. I love the fog rolling in during the summer. One thing we also notice the clouds and sky are always changing during the day and much more dynamic than the even gray that Portland has (our son lives there). And typically the high and low for the day may only vary 5-10 degrees. I have a question if I may since you are a realtor. Is it true the typical coastal realtor will only show properties they list, to perspective buyers, versus showing their buyers properties listed by other realtors as well? That is what we are experiencing in our area on the coast. Very unlike what we were used to in California. Thank you.

      Hi John! Thanks for your comment, I'm glad you love the Oregon Coast as much as I do. :) As far as Realtors only showing their own properties- I suppose realtors everywhere can choose to prioritize their own listings, but a GOOD realtor, and ethical realtor, will show a client ALL of the homes that might meet their needs, and help them decide which to make an offer on. No realtor has ALL the listings in an area, so if a realtor is only showing their own listings, I would RUN. Let me know if you're looking for a realtor that will put their client's needs first!

    @OregonLivingwithJessyRose rise in home cost happens in areas where it becomes overpopulated. It's not just due to the economy. Been living in Oregon since 2005. Prices were affordable for the first 5 years as we saw rent go up pretty fast after 2010, while people from mostly California started moving in, driving the prices way up.

    Just don't move to Oregon. It has become overcrowded and way more expensive than it should be. Everything from food to rent has doubled in the past 10 years. Good luck finding an apartment, let alone a home, you won't.

      You would hate to have been a Texan over the last 5 years. I’m not even in one of the large cities that have experienced the most boom, but for real estate and groceries to blow up by 200% and what were already low wages to have only increased in my area like 15%, we are struggling to survive in Texas with regular Texas people money.

    • @3DEditor
      @3DEditor 5 місяців тому

      @BlushingAshley Really think about the drastic weather differences. If you never heard of seasonal affective disorder, you should take that into serious consideration. People who are affected by it most, are those who are used to sunnier warmer weather year round. You either have to make drastic lifestyle changes to combat it, or you'll deal with serious health issues. Most people who can't handle the cloudy rainy weather 3/4 of the year, end up moving back to sunnier states within the first year. If you do move to Oregon, it would be a mistake to move anywhere near the Portland region within a 100 mile radius. It's overly crowded and rent has doubled, nearly tripled over the past 20 years. Part of it's due to rising inflation, while a major factor is due to overpopulation causing rise in cost of living, (median household income).

    I would seriously consider coming for an extended stay visit before considering the move to Oregon. Best to check it out during its less than desirable fall winter seasons to get a real understanding of grey gloomy rain wet and depressing climate that will be a majority of the months of the year. Also be certain to actually research the communities surrounding the area you are considering. Forget Portland or Salem both are pretty much a lost cause hell on earth. But if you enjoy the Seattle style "Chaz" lifestyle, just on a spread out city wide version, then you may actually enjoy either of these larger cities and communities. Anything west of I-5 corridor to the ocean communities would be best to be very leary about and do a lot of homework on why these towns communities are as sparse and isolated as they appear to be. Youll be shocked on who, how they are dictated and ran. City council and local government are usually very left wing liberalism heavy. And the Boss Hogs of these communities dont like giving up control by having a lot of newer non-conforming people in their tightly controlled communities. Status and titles along with the prestige of small town predominant status is key to their survival. Most are long term locals that will not defy their community masters and dislike newcomers. Just a peice of advice and my own personal opinion based on experience.
