Whenever I hear submerged castle I remember chuggaconroy's burst of rage and the legendary "I just had to open my mouth!" And how i didn't lose any pikmin :)
I wish the Burrowing Snarrow (mentioned in Pikmin and Pikmin 2) was the boss of the Snagret Hole. Heck, I thought it WAS until I saw that it was a Pileated Snagret.
Whenever I replay Pikmin 2, I always find that I remind myself "I have to do the Submerged Castle again..." I love that cave, but hate it at the same time.
You know, the first time I played the Submerged Castle, it felt like it went on for eternity. It was only years later that I found out it was only five floors, so it was actually one of the shortest dungeons in the game. It blew my freaking mind.
8:26 what's funny tho is the Raging Long Legs isn't a new boss if you played the 2 Player Battle mode. I think it was Angle Maze that had that boss but only the circular layout of that map
They scraped the Pikmin cave idea already, and it's easy to see why, when they went with the Pikmin 2 cave concept, they were experimenting. After Pikmin 2, they thought it was completely pointless to go into a random cave with some Pikmin just to stop time in the real world, it took away from the whole purpose of multitasking to beat the clock. That and the caves from Pikmin 2 didn't really make any sense of where in the world they were. It was like entering some other dimension. You can see why they're not in Pikmin 3.
@@ethanpeacock6933 Yeah I see your point, although I disagree. Caves provided smaller, interconnected areas in which you could face smaller, more contained challenges. It provides nice variation. While the he time stopping might be a bit jarring it's not like they had to keep it for Pikmin 2, and we haven't had a day limit since Pikmin 1 so day timers aren't even really that important any more. You're no longer actually really fighting a clock. Not to mention that they provided a change of scenery and gameplay challenges compared to the overworld. (Cave gameplay was more themed around a single thing, more like a Mario level in that regard compared to the mishmash of ideas in the overworld.) The caves also had character upgrades at the end of them, which were way more interesting in Pikmin 2 than in 3 in my opinion, and provided for a nice sense of progression.
Pikmin 2 did have a day limit, not like it's supposed to limit how long you can play, it's a reminder that, when you put down pause menu, it's time to take action, it adds to the fact that a captain has so little time a day, even with all the time in the world, multitasking can be stressful. They could've kept the timer going in the caves, but not force you to exit the cave when it's night, that means you could continue playing with your Pikmin when the day time limit starts again, and if you're out by then. And since time just freezes when you enter a cave, it just feels like a different game entirely.
@@ethanpeacock6933 I believe the whole multitasking focus isn't really important since they removed the day limit, not the time limit. You can pluck one pickmin a day and collect one treasure every hundred years in Pikmin 2, you won't ever actually run out of time. The time limit on each day is actually irrelevant. And in Pikmin 3 you collect _so much_ food that running out of time is far from an issue either. I don't think time is an essential component to Pikmin anymore. Far from it.
In case you were wondering, the clips of pikmin that were not gameplay was taken from the pikmin short movies app on the wii u and 3ds which can only be gotten from my nintendo, which i did do
I wouldn't recommend 100 yellows in the Glutton's Kitchen. You should have at least 20 purples in any cave (obviously Submerged Castle is an exception since it doesn't allow any purples at first, and in the Emergence Cave since you don't unlock them until the end). Purples don't have an elemental immunity but are instead useful for their brute strength, both in combat and collecting treasures. It's because of this that, regardless of what the elemental hazards are of a cave, the purples will be a necessity, especially in the Glutton's Kitchen for dealing with breadbugs. Though the only elemental hazard in the Glutton's Kitchen is electricity, you still need at least 20 purples like any other cave, so 80 yellows should be WAY more than enough to effectively deal with all the electricity. Also, the plates and cloths in the final sublevel might suggest it's a dining room, not a kitchen.
Pikmin 2 is fun. So I came up with some future game ideas. 1.Pikmin Parasite: Since there's so many creatures in Pikmin, I figured players would want to use all those creatures to their advantage. Pikmin Parasite features the Parasite Pikmin, farm the Pikmin to feed to the creatures you want to control, it's not so different from the original Pikmin come to thin of it. 2. Purple Pikmin Defenders of The Plan: For all you Purple Pikmin maims, this is a game specifically for using Purple Pikmin, the game's Purple Pikmin are advanced, so they can breath underwater, and are fire resistant. But of course, they're slow, and heavy, so they can't swim like trained Blue Pikmin can. "With enough planning, you can beat any foe anywhere" is how you beat the game. Oh and story mode, somebody wants to start a civilization on Earth, and they come across Purple Pikmin, so the Purple Pikmin defend their plans. 3.Splatoon Pikmin: I'm about out of ideas, so I figured just now that growing Pikmin is like covering turf. So I came up with a PikminxSplatoon crossover. I imagine this game being like Untitled Goose Game, where you just have to cause the Inklings trouble to get the treasures you want to collect. Story mode wise, things that Splatoon has like Online Multiplayer, and stuff may be in the game too. 4. Pikmin Cave Maker: Last thing I came up with was a Mario Maker type create your own sub levels game. What do you guys think about these ideas? Knowing that I gave Purple Pikmin maims, and Parasite Pikmin maims a game, I could probably do the same for the rest of them, and let me know if there's something Pikmin related I should know for this.
I hate the Submerged Castle because of the childhood trauma it caused and the stress it induces. But I also love it because of its difficulty and how it forces you to move quickly and not linger. If you're creative, you can even use the Water Wraith to your advantage. It just gives you this challenge and sense of dread that you don't find anywhere else in the game and it's so satisfying to overcome it.
You picked a really insterresting pack of very frustrating caves xD I don't like Snagret hole that much. Bread beetles (Gluton's kitchen) can be very frustating to kill and I HATE Subterrean complex xD I hate that freaking spider xD
Top10 Challenge Mode caves would be nice. My Top5 Story Mode caves would have to be 5:Dream Den, 4:Submerged Castle, 3:Shower Room, 2:Hole of Heroes, & 1:Glutton's Kitchen.
I did a speed run right through his Murch castle and I never meant to waterways wants wants And guess how many pickle and I had coming out but I can’t remember seeing somewhere around 35 to 40 and I was a beginner
I remember while I was doing a no death pikmin run, I absolutely despised the subterranean complex because of those stupid firework shooting antelope that would regenerate and revive themselves if you weren't right on top of them
Do many people find man at legs hard? Its as easy as any other arachnorb, plays similarly to, whack the big ball boi and run away for cover Thats it, and its easy to know when to run away because he always shoots after he shakes The only thing that would actually hurt you is that sometimes man at legs targets the other group of pikmin that you left at the geyser becase you expect it to attack you while your behind some metal
Sound pretty similar to what I would rank the caves as the only difference is id maybe swap the subterranean complex with the frontier cavern but I still love the subterranean complex alot, its the best play to farm purple and white pikmin.
Good question tho, how would I rate the Pikmin 2 caves? Well before I do, I first need to rate the bosses of the game since their contribution to the cave puts them higher on the list. Empress Bulblax Empire Bulblax Burrowing Snagret Pillaged Snagret Beady Long legs Man at Legs Raging Long Legs Water Wraith Giant Breadbug And the Titan Dweevil So first, which boss is my favorite? (All though it's supposed to be a joke for a boss) I'll have to go with the Giant Breadbug. Pikmin is mostly a math game, and the Giant Breadbug uses math as the gimmick to its battle. Without Purple Pikmin, the only way you can beat Giant Breadbug, is to drag it to your base while it's trying to dragging something to its own base, by the thing it's dragging. Like how you deal with a normal Breadbug, the number of the Pikmin dragging the thing has to be bigger than enough Pikmin to carry the thing. The Giant Breadbug literally has a great role in the whole Pikmin series, in my opinion, it wasn't given enough credit. Titan Dweevil is my second favorite, it uses all the four main hazards in Pikmin 2, while it may not require you to use the ability all the Pikmin you have, it's battle is actually interesting. Water Wraith is my third favorite, it's actually scary, attacks before the battle even begins when you have the Purple Pikmin to defeat it. Playing Pikmin 2 is just more fun with the water wraith out causing chaos. Nothing much else to say about the other bosses, except that my most hated is the Pillaged Snagret. Giving the Snagret a foot, does not even make the Snagret harder, it just allows it to move above the surface. Now that that's out of the way, how would I rate the caves? I think that my favorite cave must be more than a cave, like how Subterranean Complex was metallic, like it was made by humans, or Snagret Hole, like how part of it was an alternate entrance to the cave (outside the cave). And I think it must feature all the four main elements (fire, electricity, water, and poison). This is how I can tell that the cave is somehow important for its attention to detail, and that there's definitely hazards I should always be cautious about. So... I can confirm that the games final cave (Dream Den) is my favorite. In the game there's only one way to access it, when really there should be more than one, because the first "two" sub levels were outside the cave. It is a tough final challenge, which makes sense cause it's the final cave, and it has some importance to the Pikmin lore with the Titan Dweevil, and the rescue of Louie being part of a parasite final boss. And the last reason I feel like it's the best cave is because it's deep with lore, like a man made sub level, before a matural sub level, before a man made sub level, it's that deep with lore. Submerged Castle can only be entered with Blue Pikmin, I had trouble deciding whether Submerged Castle or Gluton's Kitchen would take this place at first, till I remembered that's the only way to enter Submerged Castle. It is a great challenge for the Pikmin series, and there are Bulbmin that the player can find later in the cave. It's also actually scary, and dangerous because when you're up against all four main hazards, and all you have is Blue Pikmin until you find the few Bulbmin... I don't think there's anything else I have to say to confirm that it's that scary, and that dangerous. And with the Water Wraith on the loose, it is a fun cave in an interesting way. Gluton's Kitchen is dangerous without your Purple Pikmin, and even they have to be careful because they're much slower than the rest of the Pikmin. The Bulbear is a nice touch to the Dwarf Bulbears in the cave, which are really Breadbugs, which are really the main antagonist of the Pikmin in the cave. The only of the four elements in the cave is Electricity, the instant Pikmin killer. It's really just another cave that activates the caution meter, and it has my favorite boss in the whole game. The Hole of Heroes I would've put higher on this list if it weren't for its lack of bosses. If Water Wraith, and the Giant Breadbug did appear again in the Hole of Heroes, this would've been my second favorite cave, but it doesn't have any of my favorite bosses. On the positive side, instead of giving the Titan Dweevil to battle again, it gives a whole new boss, the Raging Long Legs. So using the abilities of all types of Pikmin again makes for a pretty good cave. And of course, there is Bulbmin, with their immunity to all the four main elements, this cave deserves to be one of my top 4. So there you have it, my favorite caves in Pikmin 2, and favorite bosses. I'm ending this by saying the rest of the caves are average, except Snagret Hole because it lacks a stronger Snagret. Cause I really can't say they're not all even, this comment was taking too long to finish anyway. Let me hear your thoughts too.
I once collected all the treasures in the submerged castle without being long enough for the water wraith to spawn. That day I became a man

Good question tho, how would I rate the Pikmin 2 caves? Well before I do, I first need to rate the bosses of the game since their contribution to the cave puts them higher on the list.
Empress Bulblax
Empire Bulblax
Burrowing Snagret
Pillaged Snagret
Beady Long legs
Man at Legs
Raging Long Legs
Water Wraith
Giant Breadbug
And the Titan Dweevil
So first, which boss is my favorite? (All though it's supposed to be a joke for a boss) I'll have to go with the Giant Breadbug. Pikmin is mostly a math game, and the Giant Breadbug uses math as the gimmick to its battle. Without Purple Pikmin, the only way you can beat Giant Breadbug, is to drag it to your base while it's trying to dragging something to its own base, by the thing it's dragging. Like how you deal with a normal Breadbug, the number of the Pikmin dragging the thing has to be bigger than enough Pikmin to carry the thing.
