Mr. Tiger number 6, the only # I ever wore playing ball, for over 30 years. RIP Mr. Kaline

    I'm a Tom Landry-era
Dallas Cowboys fan, watching in earnest since 1963.
Tiger Stadium was one of my favorite "enemy" stadiums.
What a crying shame it was torn down. IMO, it looks like if Fenway and Wrigley are allowed to stand,
Briggs/Tiger Stadium should have been saved as well.

I have many memories of Tiger Stadium. My 1st time going there, in '65, at the age of 11. Several annual trips with my Boy Scout troop, Kaline scoring the pennant-clinching run in '68, the Tigers winning it all in that start-to-finish year of '84, and many other others. My most vivid memory was of the day of Aug. 2nd, 1970, when my buddies and I sat in the upper deck in right field. It was Al Kaline Day. Yes, the Tigers lost a double header to the Twins and Killebrew hit 2 of the longest homers I'd ever seen. But it was Al Kaline Day..... and I can say I was there. Thank you, Tiger Stadium.

And the Illich family, city of Detroit and state of Michigan allowed this shrine to be closed, abandoned, then unceremoniously torn down. Disgraceful. Meanwhile Chicago (Wrigley) and Boston (Fenway) respected history and tradition by investing millions into the rebuilding of their shrines, preserving memories for generations.

There’s a beautiful article that was written on LIFE website that mentioned this speech. I’m so happy that it did.
