I didnt know Hancocks was a BTAC , ETL is a bit overrated, but agree with RHF over blantons but both are great.

The BT tater activity is just nuts on some of these bottles. I have been lucky enough to get a Hancock's Reserve and a regular Blanton's, but I can't find the others for LESS than $400 each, which is just the definition of insanity. I don't want to collect them, I just want to DRINK THEM! I can't even find them at bars to ***TRY*** for less than $50 a pour, which is also just as insane. I do take comfort in the fact that there are SO MANY much better whiskies out there for a lot less money and are easy to find. Some day, maybe I'll luck into them, but I won't hold my breath.
Since I know that Blanton's can be hard to find for many, I do share the one I have. It's a decent pour; a very solid, classic bourbon, that always goes over well but doesn't blow minds. I had higher hopes for Hancock, but that low proof is a real short-coming. On the upside, you can get A LOT of sips from that bottle before you notice...

Need the Elmer T. Lee to complete the set.

A friend of mine is a mash bill #2 guy and likes Blanton's. He's getting married in a couple months. His dad tracked down a Blanton's Gold for him for the wedding. I've managed to track down a Blanton's SFTB for him for the wedding. He got a pour of both Elmer T Lee and Rock Hill Farms at a local restaurant and no surprise he likes them quite a bit! Next year is his 30th birthday, so I'm trying to track down a Rock Hill Farms for him.

Originally wasn’t into 1792 BiB so put it in the back of the shelf and let it sit for a month. Tried it again and immediately went out and bought a backup bottle. Banana bomb and a relative steal at $41 around here.

For anyone that cares: Buffalo Trace store picks consistently drink better than any of these and they're often available between $30-$35 dollars. Cheers 🥃

Hard disagree. BT store picks are just about as good as regular BT imo but maybe my store just sucks

No, Buffalo Trace is barely drinkable, store pick or not.

I love to sip on Buffalo Trace, but to me it really has no complexity. Delicious, but simple.

Rock hill at my locale store is $399, but Eagle Rare 10 is only $39 and Blantons is $99

I have not been able to find Hancock’s for less than $100. I’ve passed every time. I’d pay up to $80 for a first bottle. Out of the others, RHFs is by far the best, but not worth $400. I paid $80. I’d pay up to $100 for a second bottle. ETL is excellent at $50. I paid $80 as well. Blanton’s is good and fun to have as you said. I wish we could find out the details from BT on these such as age, warehouses, barrel selection, etc. it will never happen. This was a very good video on these bottles. Thanks!

I haven't cracked my bottle of RHF yet, but did recently acquite a Blantons Gold and SFTB and concur that proof makes thta mashbill better. Had a pour of ETL and do t dfeel the need to pursue it

I’m going to different when it comes to Blanton’s. My first and only Blanton’s was mediocre at best. The nose and flavors were very muted and mine had a bitterness on the back that was horrible. I made some whiskey sours for my wife and she wasn’t impressed with it either compared to one made with EC Toasted Barrel and a Copper & Cask Rye whiskey. I did try a store pick of Blanton’s that tasted so much better than mine but once again with those muted flavors it did nothing for me. As far as the bottle goes it does nothing for me as I couldn’t care less what a bottle looks like. As far as my collection goes a regular Blanton’s does not deserve to be in it, however a gold or straight from the barrel might be in it someday.

Taking into consideration ease of access and typical mark up of pricing, I would take an eagle rare and it's in most cases a single barrel product. I know it's mash bill #1 but it's much easier to find. Of those four, I've only ever found blanton's at retail and doesn't nearly live up to the hype.

I just watched a guy pay $500 each for 2 bottles of rock hill at a whiskey auction. I guess I shouldn't be surprised in Boulder area but ffs.

Unfortunately never see any in my part of NC, but the Rock Hill piques my interest most. I got into rye whiskey cus of West coast IPAs (wanted less calories, a bit drier, sharper finish, not so sweet ) and so the others come across like they'll have that heavy caramel film. Hey will you talk about Old Scout? I only ever see the Smooth Ambler and Contradiction but would like to hear about the others!

Blantons is certainly in my top 5, I haven't tried the others yet but there's a bottle of rock hill farms that's been sitting on the shelf for a few weeks at my local store for $200, still seems a little steep though

    • @C_H_1972
      @C_H_1972 4 місяці тому

I wouldn’t do it for $200 imo. Try to negotiate $150 for a first bottle.

    • @sideshowonacid

I would pay the 200. I wouldn’t be happy about it, but they sell for 299.00 where I live, and are rarely seen.

To be honest the hype around BT/bourbon has totally turned me off to it. Sure if I winna a lotto I’ll grab something cool but I’m not wasting time looking for these
so far all the “whiskey people” I’ve met have been snobbish and walk around with a chip on their shoulder
I’m an Old Forester/Brown Forman guy from here on out
