Your overalls are so cute. I have that pattern but when I pulled it out to look at the directions the reality of having to unbutton that ginormous number of buttons in order to use the bathroom, well, my bladder would fail me. (she has no sense of humor or patience). So your zipper alteration is perfect for me. I will skip the buttons completely and place pockets on each side of the front, probably add a generous pocket on the bib as well. Thanks so much for sharing. It’s funny to hear you talk about that idea of making the inside of the garment as lovely as the outside because I heard that from other seamstresses on youtube but never heard of it growing up. I started sewing at age five, in 1957, instructed by my beloved granny and I was legally blind but my grammy accepted no excuses and I enjoyed my job. By age 8 after having numerous surgeries to tackle tumors I had functional vision and joined the neighbor’s 4-H club. She was the high school home ec teacher and expected us to sew well under her guidance, seams and hems were to be oversize in order to be let out for our ever changing sizes but she never told us to strive for that beautiful inside idea. I learned that the goal was for carefully constructed nice looking clothes with functional, adaptive insides. Most fabric pieces were cut using heavy pinking shears and all facings had narrow hems on all edges. I still enjoy sewing and her picture hangs above my home made scissor rack in my sewing room. My mom did not sew, no patience for that but she did encourage me to keep at it, buying my first ever sewing machine for $15 (used)when I was 13 which led me to sewing most of my school dresses, blouses, and pajamas. That machine was a heavy black portable singer with a finicky tension spring from early 1940’s or so. Great memories. So sorry that the women in your life tried judging your work, but it’s to your credit that you have continued to sew while learning to ignore their nonsense. New subscriber, looking forward to watching more of your videos.
