  • NO BIG CROWDS In May/June at The Grand Canyon At Mather Point Weather in the Grand Canyon is at its best between April and June when rainfall averages are low and temperatures have not yet reached their scorching summer highs. The park becomes extremely crowded when school lets out in June, so plan your visit before then5 Best Views Check out the Iconic Mather Point and My top 5 favorite views from this area. I am boondocking in the area and decided to explore Mather Point and the Rim Trail Early in the morning is the best time to get great views with no crowds

    WOW!! Russ. Everytime I see a video of the Grand Canyon it brings back memories of the two times I was blessed enough to see the Grand Canyon. It is the second most favorite of the NPS. The first being the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at Arlington National Cemetery..Thanks to all the service men and veterans on this Memorial Day weekend.

    Mention the eatery in the parking lot by the store. Pay for what you take and it is really good. Live at Kingman KOA. The Grand Canyon is awesome. My brother in law rode the mules to the bottom. It was on his bucket list and past away earlier this year 2022 of Alzheimer's, a great friend and he is missed. Many adventures. Now 78 and wonder how much longer I have. Now live thru your lens, thank you for your effort to bring us these videos.

    It is always nice to see the canyon from a different location. I live on/near the north rim and camp where most never go. Extremely remote, and once packed-in & set-up, if it starts to rain a decision has to be made. Leave immediately, or stay until it stops raining and the mud dries. Otherwise you can be stuck for a week or more. No cell service and no nothing else. I love it, especially being Alone. 🌝 Memorial Day Today. God Bless those who served.

    Russ: so good of you to make a trip to the Grand Canyon for your viewers. I think the last time you visited there, I wrote about a hike I took to the canyon floor in 1990, using the Bright Angle trail. Two events left lasting impressions from the trip; first, the hike was the hottest I ever encountered, 120 degrees F and second, the sheer silence of the trail leading from Indian Springs to the Colorado River. No bird sounds, no people sounds, no sound at all; it was a little creepy. Your videos are better than the hundreds of pictures I made back then. Thanks again for the memories.

    Nice to spend some time with you at the Canyon today Russ. Looking forward to the next episode as you explore more along South Rim Drive.
    "Stephen Mather...part of the National Park thing"...he was the first director of the National Park Service. There are quite a few spots in the parks named after him. I totally agree with Ken Burns when he called the National Parks "America's Best Idea".
    The vista from the Mather Point is spectacular but I think the best views are on the north rim are at Cape Royal and Toroweep/Tuweap (but that's at the end of a long rough road). Of course to really get the canyon experience you need to hike down into the canyon, even if it's just a little way to get the feeling of the place below the rim.

    • @BlueSky-ff4oy
      @BlueSky-ff4oy 2 роки тому

      Dave Carter, agreed...but there is only one problem with hiking down the canyon.... it's having to hike back up.... at increasing altitude no less.

    I'm so happy to be a part of your travels ! My husband and I are part time wanderers. 😀 Back in June we went to Grand Canyon. I had been there with my sister in 06 but he'd never been. This video is exactly where we were. My husband is retired but I have to work but we go when we're able. Next trip is to Missouri first week of September. Going to see my sister that I went to Grand canyon with. She's had 4 strokes over the past few years. Anyhow. She lives in Van Buren Missouri and Current River might be a cool location for you to check out sometime. It'd be nice to meet you !! Thank you for taking us with you on your travels. 😀

    Wasn't "Mather" the old battered tow-truck in the film "CARS" ... lol ! Magnificent video, as usual Sir. The "little pines" you saw are "Junipers" and "Pinyons". In 2019, I spent a day touring the western part of the Park on their Natural-gas powered busses. They have 2 or 3 different circuits, worth the trouble despite being crowded. I visited the Park in 2017, 18 and 19, spending a whole week there each year. I always get a campsite at Desert View campground near the Eastern Entrance (12 $ a night with restrooms to wash and shave). The viewpoint I like the most is "LIPAN POINT", I get there at 5h00 AM on clear days to admire the sunrise. It's always cool and windy and usually I'm the only witness to this magnificent spectacle, the light creating tableaux of shadows, textures and warm colors. Sunsets are magnificent too at Lipan Point, around 7h30 - 8h00 PM. The North Rim is over 200 miles away but absolutely worth a visit (Point Imperial and Mount Hayden). The only other Park that can rival the Grand Canyon is Yosemite Nat'l Park in California. Cheers !!! RICHARD
