  • WHAT is OPEN? for boating camping and Boondocking Lake Mead There are many Campgrounds around Lake mead Most charge for campsites and I found an area at the Government Wash where some RVs were Boondocking Also, Las Vegas Bay Campground was nice but fee-based. Low water levels and closed boat ramps affect some areas for use

Valley of Fire State Park is a "must-see", not very far from Lake Mead. Rock formations everywhere and a very nice (though a fee-area) campground. When you exit the Park on Interstate-15, you are between Las Vegas and Mesquite. Lake Mead is starting to look like Anza-Borrego in Southern California, not scary yet but coming ! Very nice video, full of memories for me. Thank you so much ! RICHARD

Hey, Russ, great video of Lake Mead and campsites. Las Vegas gets about 74% of it's water from Lake Mead. All water from drains, etc. are funneled to a treatment facility, cleaned and returned back to the lake. I thought you'd be interested to know that. Happy Trails!

Echo bay on the lake has a nice campground, very similar to the one in this video but, they also have a tiny general store, and restaurant. I don't know how far out the launch is now . we used to take our little boat out there all the time. We haven't been in two years but always liked echo bay the best

It would be interesting to see a breakdown in where the water ends up by percentage. I know Las Vegas treats wastewater that is pumped back into Lake Mead, so they are not as heavy users as one would expect for such a large metro area. If California wasn't run by the current galaxy brains in charge, we should be able to install desalination plants along the coastal areas using solar/offshore wind to power them. Israel has implemented newer technology they use for desalination which requires far less maintenance on the filtration side compared to traditional desalination plants.

In 2012 I purchased my senior pass as I entered Yosemite at the south entrance for only $10. It's good for a lifetime and never expires and gets the holder's vehicle and occupants into any national park and some fee based national forests. Camping fees are additional. I heard the price has increased to $80 and is no longer lifetime, but that might be incorrect.
