The elephant rock is easily visible from your car on the right as you drive slowly up the top of the hill on the paved main road (just past that parking area where you paid to get in.)

Actually, Russ, you "caught" Elephant Rock at 3:36 in your excellent video. It's at the right edge of the screen about halfway up. It's hard to make out at first because it blends in with the background, but you can see the "body" to the right and the "trunk" to the left (a small natural arch). If you look carefully as the video runs, you can see thru the arch and the background rocks appear to move relative to the "Elephant". Once you spot it, it's pretty obvious.

One quick note: the signs around the park state that f you're there after sunset, you're trespassing. However, they understand that people love to take sunset photos there, and they understand that you need time to take your sunset photos and videos, and then leave the park in a reasonable amount of time.

Nice drive thru Valley of Fire! I toured the area in the 1990's & loved it. As I recall, it was before one of the roads was built, perhaps the white dome scenic highway. I walked several areas including elephant rock & the mousetrap. I noticed you have a Mercedes Sprinter; how do you like it? I assume you decked it out yourself. I'm not sure if you have a look at your setup inside but a tour would be appreciated. Thanks for pictures & commentary. Bob from Pa.

AWESOME VIDEO !! One of your most beautiful and colorful documentaries up to now. It brings back so many fond memories of my trips to the Southwest. Concerning the spot where people take Marriage pictures (near the 7 sisters), my friend in Las Vegas told me jokingly "Elvis has left the building" ... Valley of Fire, along with Lake Tahoe up north near Carson City, are the two scenic jewels of Nevada. Now, to Mesquite and the Gorges of the Virgin River. I hope you can spare half a day to visit Zion Nat'l Park on your way north, it is loaded with tourists and heavy traffic but well worth a short stint, particularly the Tunnel and the Rock Formations. Stay safe, my friend ! RICHARD

Um, Russ, you kind of missed Elephant Rock but I can't blame you--I didn't manage to see it until my 3rd visit. Maybe next time, eh? The scenery on the road out to White Dome is just fantastic and seeing those bighorns is quite the bonus! I've camped in the park several times---the campground areas are pretty nice and they even have showers (but who knows how long that will last?) Also, more lizards than I've seen in a desert campground anywhere. So you're headed back to Sturgis? Cool! Happy trails!

I guess I miss-read the "NO DRINKING WATER PAST THIS POINT" sign last time I was there. We had plenty of water in the car, but I though we weren't allowed to drink it past that point. I would eat at about midnight sometime at that pavilion at the entrance station or at one of the picnic areas. Now there are lots of nice parks in SW Vegas I stop at. I was curious what it looked like during the day. Might try camping there someday.

A lot of holes in the desert, and a lot of problems are buried in those holes. But you gotta do it right. I mean, you gotta have the hole already dug before you show up with a package in the trunk. Otherwise, you're talking about a half-hour to forty-five minutes worth of digging.
