Watching from the UK. This place fascinates me, the story of how it was built and the men who worked on it and the engineering behind it. I only recently became aware of how low the water is. Must be worrying for the people in the South West for both water and power.☹️

John m , In this video, he focused mostly on the structure of the dam and the big geographical features. What’s not shown too much are the beautiful Art Deco details. The dark-colored angel statues he showed are part of that, but there’s a lot of beautiful, small architectural touches that are just beautiful. It’s not only an amazing engineering feat, it’s also a work of art, imo.

A lot of it has to do with people refusing to get rid of grass and pools as well as water demanding crops in California 🤷‍♂️. Here in Phoenix, AZ they literally flood their yards daily to keep them green, so much wasted water. There are also golf courses everywhere 🙄.

Thank you for taking us with you on your visit to the Hoover Dam. I drove over the dam several times when I lived in Vegas in the early 90’s. Memorial I love the changes that they made to the visitor center and the memorial plaza. When I left Vegas in ‘94 there was a small bathtub ring around the lake. It is unbelievable the hubris, of the National Park and the state governments the river supplies, to wait until the lake reaches such lows before they act.
A new states pact should be done with the exclusion of California (the largest benefactor of Lake Mead water),as their state government just voted down any Desalination plants as the plants could harm some unknown sea animal/fish. 🇺🇸🇺🇦🇩🇪🇪🇸

this is the most important part of Nevada and everyone lives in this state, I prayed for more rains to fill out the lakes, it's okay, we need the flooding to save more water, Nevada is a desert, the most rain the better, lake Mead needs support from the Mississippi river, it's very important to build a pipe line that will feed the Colorado River All the way to Las Vegas, Now Vegas casinos need water at the Bellagio to do that fountain show, that show is good but the Bellagio needs to comply with federal authority,

I don't recall the year, (circa-Late70's early 80's?) but I was lucky enough to be there the first time they ever (had) to open the floodgates. The sound and power of the water was both deafening and violent. Standing on the edge overlooking the rim you could feel the mist from the water spray in your face as it crashed onto the Arizona side of the Colorado River below. They had a tour to explore the Turbines encased deep within the bottom of the massive structure, requiring an elevator ride deep into the dark bowels of one of the greatest engineering feats of all time.

I went across the Hoover dam in 1964 and the water was going in the spillways and the lake was so missive.

I am so terrified of heights sitting here in my car and still freaking out when you pointed the camera down 😬😂

So cool! We just did that exact same thing. The tours had opened up just 2 days before.

Great video and the camera must have impressed you when you played it back never too dark or light. Really enjoyed the commentary too. Thanks ✌️

In 2000 I rode my motorcycle from Augusta GA, when I crossed the dam I was burnt up coming from Vegas it was 120 degrees on the desert.

Back in the late 60’s or early 70’s I was living in Chandler Arizona and I remember going on a school field trip to a dam I think it was this one. Back then the tour of the dam was free.

Every time a relative visited us in Vegas we would have to make a trip to Hoover dam. It is fun for a couple of times but not so much now. I live 900 miles from there now so no issue. Great video.

I have a book about Hoover dam, built by the six companies. Last time I was there was back in 1999 drove over it. And before that was back in 1974. We took a tour through the inside of it. Then we went through a tunnel with the van I was in and we dropped off our canoes at the base of the dam and went down the Colorado river for a few days.
