I always took safety seriously and learned everything I could about the procedures, and how to keep myself safe and then, others as well! So learning the different ways to get from my Cabin to the outside deck where my the lifeboats were was a gimme! However, there were 2 higher ranking officers who would shout and belittle the crew at every opportunity! So when we had an engine fire and a real emergency, I knew what my role was and went up and beyond to ensure passenger and crew safety! It was interesting to find out that 2 officers during this crisis went AWOL and were eventually fired! And guess what? Yes they were the two who regularly abused those below them! My tip is...learn your own safety role thoroughly as you can’t always rely on those above you!
these videos are extremely helpful thankyou! i’m starting in london in august and your videos have literally been my only insight into this world for about a year now lol
Hi Lucy! Regarding the passenger drills, I heard that due to Covid, there will no longer be passenger drills where the passengers actually congregate in the assigned areas. In order to avoid large, socially congested gatherings, passengers will instead have to watch the emergency information on their cabin TVs or phones, and then check in at some point with ship staff to state they have completed the training. Love your videos!
You've mentioned that you want to make sure to take warm clothes with you in case of emergency, but when do you have time to go get them? When the emergency happens, do you go first to your cabin to get the clothes and then proceed to your emergency station?
This is one of the most important topics to me since the primary reason I do my contract s is to be able to escort shore excursions. Usually I have to go to my supervisor who has to go to the bridge in order for me to get an exemption to get off the ship. I get a supernumary blue card and number. If coast guard is inspecting I can't get exemption. Of course I have to priviously gone through several types of training when I board the ship including general harassment and fire extinguisher s
may I ask why you are able to get exemptions for participation in the evacuation drills? Do you have a medical exemption (please do not share details -- just a yes or no) Thanks :-)
@@emmib1388 Nothing medical. Working for ent dept and essentially being lead tour escort if I can show I have a tour it usually works . That is when I usually get top preference on tour choice

Can you give a view of what a carpenter job like on cruise ship
This sounds like the most stressful part of working on a ship.

It ofcourse depends on the severity of the situation but for a drill, you would go to your cabin first to get your life jacket and warm clothing.
Ah, that makes sense. Thank you both for the clarification!
