Drills are carried out on-board ship every week to train crew and prepare them for emergency situations. All people know their role to play and keep practicing in the drill so that same can be applied without anuy delay during actual mishappening.
No one ever thinks of abandoning a ship. This would be the worst moment for a master when things on ship gets uncontrollable such as fire on ship. However, people must be prepared for this.
