If you're editing your videos in Puerto Vallarta, you're doing something right. Those coasties are sweet looking, but that stinking SF garter!! 😍 Nice finds, Lou. Btw? Congrats on the 50K subs, blew through that like it was nothing.
San Francisco garter snakes are among the most beautiful snakes in the world, not only California. Stunning Thamnophis overall and nice rubber boas. A smaller and stupider version of the rosy boa, but still able to predate on mammals.
Congrats on the sub's - More to come! Love the Rubber Boa's, I found a road in the sierras not far from Fresno that I swear had 100 Rubber Boa's at night (It was AWESOME). Great finds and good times...
We used to get tons of sf garters on our lot in the 60’s. I had one in a cardboard box who escaped in the house . My parents flipped. Finally found it under a suitcase in parents closet. The larger ones were a bit spicy and would bite more than smaller ones.
Awesome that is such a beautiful snake. It's amazing when you zoom out how that snake does disappear even moving the colors just help it disappear.. so cool
You would actually think so you're absolutely right you would think with the colors you would be able to see that but after it moves it really blends into its area very well. It's like your eyes play tricks on you when you watch it move
I'm in an old farm house next to a swamp in west Michigan, and for almost 30 years have delt with snakes that like it inside my house better than out! Blue racers, eastern milk, and Garder to name a few, don't like them as much as you do, lol, fun video , cool that your a 747 pilot also, saw you with AVL stay safe in both adventures, thanks!
In Europe we treat natricids with more respect, even if there are two species in a given area at most. There are die-hard Natrix fans here for species that are way less colorful.
@@stefanostokatlidis4861 yeah, for us the San Francisco Garter Snake is extremely rare, living in only a very small area. I felt fortunate to see a few.
@@loub747 I was referring to garters in general. It seems that many Americans consider them too common, but Europeans generally like this family of snakes.

@@loub747 Definitely man! It’s only day one of two out here and we’ve already found 6 SF garters, 2 coast garters, 3 gophers, 1 forest sharptail, 1 arboreal salamander, a bunch of slenders and a boa shed
@@loub747 day 2 we’ve been trying for boas, santa cruz garters and Zs so far today we’ve got 12+ coasties, an SF garter, possible SC garter that got away, a YBR and 5 rubbers
Funny question but do you ever get weird looks when herping? Like does anyone stare at you because you’re flipping through a bunch of random garbage on the field? Happens to me sometimes lol 😂
All I have to do it be in the bush to get wired looks from folks, often I’m out botanizing and or mushroom hunting, if I tell them I’m out looking for snakes they think that’s wired too. Now I usually tell them I’m scouting for hunting season
Yeah, I do feel a bit strange when strangers pull up and I'm basically videoing trash. LOL. I feel even stranger videoing myself in front of other people!! Lou B
