    I directed a Christmas movie, once. When Vanilla Ice showed up to the set I was a little surprised. I had told my producer that we needed an inexpensive professional wrapper for the gift opening scene.

    For a single monologue in my freshman theater class, my theater teacher, who was also a highly respected director at Houston’s Alley Theater, actually made me smoke a real cigarette. I was 14. And cigarettes were (and are) banned on campus. Another day for class she decided to have us practice spitting on the floor. We were all spitting when some hotshot alumni/big donor was brought in on a visit to meet the prestigious new theater teacher. I miss Beth.
    I had so much fun with all my theater teachers. I graduated from high school 25 years ago and the two that are still alive are still in touch. Mr. Bill saw on Facebook that I was in ICU after complications from a major thoracic surgery and he called my mom to see how I was and and wrote me the most precious letter. He’s retiring at the end of this school year. My theater teachers changed my life and I felt so cared for, and so well-mentored by these brilliant creative people, and I still do all these years later.
    I did the props for multiple shows, usually by myself. Sourcing props for Grapes of Wrath was hard, because they wanted so much real vintage stuff, but the play Box Office of the Damned, which features the firing of a prop gun, was the hardest. We also were working in a 60-year-old theater we’d already outgrown decades ago, and there wasn’t even a proper dressing room; the girls dressed in the dance studio and the boys only had the dank dark tiny backstage bathroom. The prop closet was a literal wedge-shaped closet. Then, a *year after I graduated*, the school built a multi-multi-million-dollar new huge Fine Arts Center and main theater with a fly system, enormous actual shop, a black box theater, AND THE INCREDIBLY STOCKED PROP ROOM OF MY DREAMS. I was so jealous.

    What do you know about the air rifle Kevin had in Home Alone ?
    As a lifelong airgunner, it's one thing that always stands out to me.
    I know they took a Daisy Red Ryder and modified the forearm to slide back and forth like a pump action for some reason, but I'm not sure how they might have done this or why they would do this.

      @JunkyardBashSteve 8 місяців тому

      It might've been easier for a kid to manipulate a straight back-and-forth pump over the more articulated lever? It also could've just looked better on camera because everyone around the world is familiar with a pump action. Just my thoughts

    • @TylerSnyder305
      @TylerSnyder305 8 місяців тому

      Maybe, but they could have just taken the spring out of it or cut the hook off the cocking lever ( that would have been the easiest ) since it was not actually being operated.
      But otherwise I assume the director probably just thought it was cooler.

    Years ago and before I was born, my brother had a friend over. The friend started climbing up the metal “lattice” made of rebar that was covered in ivy.
    At the top his foot slipped and he fell down - but, you guessed it, one of the top pieces of rebar went through his chin and out his mouth.
    My poor parents had to get this kid down while the ambulance was on its way. 😬
    Years later, I was outside and I thought that it would be fun to climb up the metal lattice.
    I only climbed up 2 or 3 feet before my mother came running out, yelling at me to get down.
    It was at that moment that she told me the WHOLE story, and why it was dangerous to climb the lattice.
    My brother’s friend was fine by the way. Very sore for a while, but fine - just a small scar under his chin.
