My Grandpa made a special egg nog that was the talk of the neighborhood. On Christmas morning folks would show up at the his door, asking my Grandma, "Has Mr. Reed made his egg nog yet?" My Mom made an egg nog punch garnished with scoops of vanilla ice cream.😋🥚🍶🍷
I remember buying eggnog flavored ice cream that was pretty good. I like the stuff, but drink too much when given the chance, so try to stay away from it. Not supposed to have the sugar anyway.
Eggnog lattes are one of the only ways to buy eggnog in the uk. It’s not easy to get hold of here, which is strange when you consider it came from this country
In Germany the equivalent would be "Eier Likör". It is sold all year round. More popular with older people and some pour it over ice cream. It doesn't have the spices though. Only eggs, sugar and maybe vanilla.
Dang, the editing on this video is insane! Fantastic references (Townsends, Frontier Patriot, Max Miller)! Added to which, our favorite narrator! Merry Christmas, Weird!
I made an egg nog pannukakku (Finnish pancake) this weekend. I also made a brown sugar rum sauce to go with it. The nog isn't the easiest ingredient to bake with, but the flavor is worth the effort.
Holy hell...im genuinely upset I'm just now hearing about this...after 45 yrs! All that y'all said sounds effin awesome. Im off to learn more about this delicious treat...
My recipe if anyone wants it Eggnog pannukakku: 2c old fashioned eggnog 6tbsp butter 3 eggs 1/2 sugar Salt Vanilla Dash of Cinnamon Dash of Nutmeg Preheat oven to 350° and place cooking pan with 6tbsps inside. Combine all other ingredients in a blender and blend until smooth. Once the oven is to temp and the butter is sizzling, swish the butter around the pan so it's fully coated and then pour in the batter. Bake for 40-45min and then finish on broil till desired brownness is reached. Remove from oven and transfer to a plate to cool. Slice and serve. This will be a little more custardy than a normal pannukakku, and it doesn't rise quite as well because of the cream in the eggnog. It's still very good. If you make it to impress, I suggest grinding fresh nutmeg, it's a big difference.
I prefer my eggnog cold. I usually just used eggs, milk, sweetening agent, and vanilla. My favorite however was made with heavy cream and blended strawberries.

I am retired now and look forward to it every Christmas season, WITH alcohol. I found a decent variety in my local package store that has bourbon in it. It was a hit a party I attended at Thanksgiving and I hope to get some more soon. It is addictive. I have never had home-made, but I may try to make some soon. thanks for the video - Merry Christmas!
I like it with fireball since fireball has a cinnamon taste already. Also I tried to make egg nog once and it did not turn out well. I'm absolutely sure that I messed up somewhere, probably in the mixing area. Also I used whole eggs instead of only using certain amounts of egg whites and yolks so that probably didn't help.

Good video as always
Love you guys 😊
12:20 That's the Kansas City renfest! I know some of those people!
When I was growing up in the 1960’s, I delighted in making eggnog in our Kenmore blender. Eggs, milk, sugar, vanilla and nutmeg. Loved it! Now, I wouldn’t touch the stuff!
I love eggnog, i must've been the only one drinking the McDonald's shake all those years ago, i still hope it comes back one day
I've first heard of egg nog when I was a kid. It was in the first verse of the song "Grandma Got Run Over By A Reindeer." At the time I had no idea what egg nog was. I wasn't even aware that there were an alcoholic and non-alcoholic versions of the beverage until I was an adult.
I drank eggnog when I was little and I didn't know it had that stuff in it :(
Local Dairy’s make the best EggNog
Here in Virginia some still make
Virginia Custard, it is similar kinda like vanilla nog
I love Egg Nog. Thanks for the video on its history.
It's only popular during Xmas season? Dude, they only sell eggnogs in December and we don't see them on shelfs 11 months of the year!
I and a NOG LOVER! Wooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo. Great video.
I love eggnog during the Christmas season. It’s always nice to see it appear in the grocery store this time of year. My Mom would also make it as kind of a quick breakfast for us when we were kids sometimes as well.
But tho I love eggnog? I can only drink it (nonalcoholic) in small
doses. Consequently the clips of people glugging down gallons of it at a time?! Hooo boy, that made me queasy just watching it. That could go south real fast.🤢
Hot Cocoa > Egg Nog
Speaking of which Please do The Story of Hot Cocoa
Yeah I prefer hot chocolate as well.
You can add vanilla and cinnamon to that if you want to.
Check out traditional coco tea
When I was younger and in Junior Highschool at Barbara Worth Juinor Highschool I eggnog drink, and taste really good. Now for the Weird Food History Video do something on the Candy Canes, please
🎄🎄
cause it packs in the calories, fats, and protein. great for winter in cold regions.
Over the years I've had to become Dairy and Egg free, so I also now am........
Eggnogstic
Creme de cacao in eggnog is fabulous!
I love how you used clips from drunk history. 😅
Just found egg nog today. Got a small jug. If I get a big one I usually end up puking in the middle of the night because I drank the whole thing in a 3 hour span.
I don't like egg nog but I love boiled custard which they call holiday custard in the stores. Packaged just like egg nog and they sell it only this time of year. I've been known to drink a whole quart at a time and man what a stomach ache but it's worth it. Never had it spiked which is odd considering the amount of alcohol I've consumed in the past decades.
Eggnog is delicious!
Best store bought ive ever had was made by Hood in the New England area(not sure if they're national)
I can get Hood in NY & NJ!
