Wow! Thanks man. I haven't physically downloaded photos to my mac with a cable since before Apple quit using iTunes for this. I spent ages trying to download all my images saved to the iCloud (over 30000), but as I have an older Mac, the Photos app won't sync with iCloud. The alternative was to log on to iCloud over the web and try and download though that...only 1000 photos at a time though. EVEN THEN...nothing at all would download at all. I hadn't known this new method to download photos with a cable until I came across your video. Life saver!!
Can i transfer photo folders that i have on iphone and this system of recognizing portraits, map where photos were taken etc. are still availiable when photos are transfferd to Macbook / external disk?
This procedure imported my iPhone files but imported them as .heic files not jpgs or the iPhone raw files (IPhone 13 pro). You didn't say this in the video. Now I have to figure out how to convert them.

I have around 18,000 pics on my phone. Every time I do this method, somewhere around 14,000 the it stops and a random selection of 4000 or so pics aren't downloaded and there's no way to sort by which are downloaded and which aren't.
Trying to do this for my mother and I had to go get a macbook just to do this because iphone doesn't allow regular PCS to read it or copy photos even with itunes anymore from my Android it's literally plug-in drag and drop and everything gets copied or moved. The PC is optional I could just plug in a portable SSD straight to my Android and do the same thing

The Photo app and handling of photos on an iPhone are appallingly un-user-friendly. They have got worse over time. Thanks for this, it helps.
