Our claim to fame about Boyes steak pie The lady who originally made the steak pie worked for my mother in law at the copper kettle cafe where she learned to make the pie from her it’s my mother in laws recipe so it is a home made recipe her name was Sylvia Norman
A Boyes with a cafe??!! Now that's posh!!! Boyes always takes me back to how shops used to be in the 70s. Love the videos, you two always make me laugh 😊
Another very enjoyable vid, Food looked great , was nice seeing all the family. Thanks James and Helen for taking us viewers with you and sharing your lifes adventures.
I’ve never come across a Boyes department store down south in London or Essex, but it looks like a great department store James and reminds me of another traditional, family store I use to know called Bodgers of Ilford that closed its doors recently after 125 yrs. And when my mum was alive she use to enjoy going there in her retirement years with her sholley to pick up bargains. Back in the day there use to be a lot more traditional department stores in the U.K. but sadly many are struggling to survive today because of the competition from online shopping.
Boyes has just opened up 3 weeks ago in my town of Blyth , my daughter has started working there , me & the wife love the channel , keep up the good work 👍
We’re now up to date with your vlogs. We started right from the beginning and have just watched this one. You’ve become more relaxed with your filming. We love your sense of humour, with the sarcasm included. All the places you’ve visited we’ve been to together or separately. It’s lovely seeing all these and how they’ve changed. And just so you know, it’s called House of Boy- ez, makes it sound posher. We’re now going to start with your sisters vlogs, right from the beginning too. Keep brining us more videos to watch. 👍🏼👍🏼
Don’t you just love Brid and the Boyes steak pie ♥️Sunday was a poor day , today has been beautiful , Brid at its best ,been to Frasthorpe beach today had a picnic lunch , then walked into Brid for an ice cream . Lol we so know how to live it up , then back on the beach to beat the tide , didn’t fancy paddling back . Seriously though there is no place like it , and everyone is friendly . Back to Barnsley tomorrow 🥲♥️love to Helen great blog ❤️
I love your vids, you are a beautiful couple and I love your content because I can relate…(I lived in Worsbrough for 3yrs & then Wombswell for another 3) i am a Leeds lad… but the people watching and the charity shops & pubs and eating reminds me so much of the love of my life… thanks guys, keep it up!
Great video and always good to see the family, hope ma and pa are well, I was going to ask about your sister but I presumed with it being the school holidays that was the reason behind her not posting. Take care and enjoy your day 😊
Love this. You're whole family are gorgeous. Loved how Dad was dumped on the chair, bless him. Beck's and H need to get on the lash in matching outfits!! Love to all xXx
That food looks amazing plus potion size ♥️ Just back from a weekend in Windsor Steak and Ale Pie French Fries and Petits Pois £36.00 plus 12% service charge. No gravy.Hope Boyes enjoy the plug xxx They will certainly get my custom when I am in the area x
Great vlog. The pie really did look home made. Our family live up north and go to Brid often son I’m going to tell them to go into Boyes and have the steak pie instead of fish and chips next time. Thanks James and Helen.
Boyes looks great! We used to have some great department stores down here in South London...Kennards, Allders, and Chiesmans...but they all shut down years ago. There used to be something magical about walking around a proper old-school department store...with a cafe at the top. Now...all we have is anonymous retail parks...with The Range, B&M, and Home Bargains. I miss so much about "how things used to be" in the 60s, 70s, and 80s. I suppose that's just called "getting old"? 😢 The pie and chips looking banging...but I would have had mushy peas instead 😊
We loveall your videos. Found the Boyes Cafe one a delight. Can’t wait to sample the pie when in Bridlington next year . We have Boyes in Nottinghamshire. No cafe though. Thanks for all the insight you give.
Used to visit Boyes all the time growing up when i used to visit my grandparents that lived there from 2000 - 2010. Haven't been back to brid much but it's not changed all that much
Never knew boyes had a cafe it looked really nice . The steak pie looked fabulous a “proper pie “ not the individual ones you normally get in other establishments . Enjoyed your escapades as per usual . 👍👍
Prices in that cafe was excellent, lovely surroundings and they are so friendly. That pie was tops! Our Boyes is sadly cafeless and one floor, not fair, I’m sulking now!🤣 So nice to see your happy family together too. Jolly vloging , cheers!
We live in Brid and used to go to Boyes cafe for steak pie every week till lockdown. got out of the habit but now go to The Stirling Castle pub for their steak pie and its as good as Boyes, The older lady working behind counter is Joan, a friend of ours, she's originally from Bradford, wonderful lady, comes to my wifes fitness classes at our dance studios on Springfield Ave near post office.
I remember that the third floor used to have a gift shop just outside the cafe, but it was moved to the second floor to allow for more seating in the cafe And I remember the lift once decided to quit working for at least 10 minutes (thankfully there was no one in it when that happened, it eventually decided to start working again) Edit: not sure if they still have a gift shop, as the second floor is clearly different to how it was when i last went there I remember there used to be an escalator going to the second floor, but it got taken out (presumably got used for parts for the one that goes from the ground floor to the first floor)
watched the vlog last night .. but forgot to comment.. Birmingham city fc playing so you lovely peeps took second place to the footie ..🤣.. just watching vlog again the morning after the night before and a blues win .. but your teasing us all i just cant watch further . . The whole sequence of pouring dat gravy onto that plate of pie pea's n chips .. the background music was too much ..😂 it looked so GOOD .. Mmmmmmmm mmm .. only the best for your lady helen james 👍.. 🍻🍻 definitely a bitter with this meal james ..bank's bitter .. next time so "si thi" but with a Brummie accent 😜
It`s not very often I go to the pub when I am at home but, recently my brother and me did a motorbike tour round Ireland, where we discovered `splitting the G`. We were in a small village bar and got talking to a local who explained it to us, well we both did perfect examples on our first ever try 😚 the local guy couldn`t believe it🤣 and bought us a pint each. Must try a Boyes dinner when we are next up north.
😂😂 Ohhh wow I was in Boyes cafe in Brid a couple of weeks ago, I had quiche, chips & beans, that was lovely too and such good value 👍 I love Boyes, especially the Brid one 😃 Black Lion in the old town do an amazing steak pie, garden peas & gravy all homemade just like that pie in Boyes but their chips are homemade too😍 it's delicioussss, for only £8.50. Me & my husband come out of Boyes and go straight to Wetherspoons for rest of the afternoon, great minds think alike 🤭🤣🤣 best pub in Brid in our eyes lol 🍻
My Nan and mother used to be cleaners at the then Binns... what a shame it closed and turned into a trashy Boyes. That floor used to be Electrical equipment, Hifi systems etc..also bikes which I loved looking round as a kid. My parents bought me a Raleigh Boxer and I remember running into town with my mum to pick it up.
Fab wasn't it?! My auntie's fave place to shop! So was there a cafe then? Boyes is ok & has filled the Woolworths gap a bit. If you dig around you can get some bargains, they used to sell end of line designer stuff years ago but i think TKMaxx has got all that now.
My friend lives in Brid. I went there many years ago and we visited Boyes. loved it.. I'm from South and no Boyes here unfortunately.. That pie chips n peas looked good. Keep doing the great vids .. sidee 😅
The Boyes store in Brid used to be Binns, which was part of House of Fraser. It was a proper department store. There are three Boyes stores in Hull. We even have one in Hornsea. None in Barnsley though. I’m sure one would go down well. One of the old BBC buildings would make a good one.
We have just Subcribed to your sister yesterday! not knowing it was your sister!? She was doing a vlog of Sheffield. Wow what a small world lol. We have a Boyes where we live no Cafe though 😃
Nice video James & Helen. OK we don’t have the sun & palm trees (much) in the UK but we do have character and history and a beautiful & varied countryside. What you have shown me personally on your YT Channel is another side to England and a look at many places I’ve never seen before. I loved your enthusiasm and thumbs up to a meal at Boyes. All so genuine, I would buy everything you said about the meal. Two lovely people, no wonder you shine. 💕💕💕💕
Loved that video😂😂 A Boyes shop has opened up in a CO OP in Thornton, near Cleveleys, a brilliant little shop, my other half is like a kid in a sweet shop when we go in there😂 wish it had a cafe though! It's good to see proper homely cooked food 👍❤❤
Why don't you try the sea court hotel in Bridlington , we stayed there last year and it's really nice overlooking the sea, they do delicious carvery breakfast and meat carvery during day and evening xx
Loved the video and seeing the whole family was great! I think Helen and your sister would make a fantastic double act! If they EVER do it, make sure to video it please James! xx😂
Now thats a proper pie, top and bottom, filled to the brim, made on a plate/platter, real food, great to see along with knowing its made in house by the ladies that serve you, fab 🥮. Pass the Dutchie by musical youth, lead singer D S, is my next door neighbour, fab guy. Great vlog, real food, people and places.....😊
Excellent vid, I have been thinking about having a few days at Bridlington and you have made my mind up to go. Have you ever been to my home Town of South Shields? All the best to you both.👍👍❤️
I never knew that Boyes have their own cafe in Bridlington 😮 I must visit one day as love popping into my local Boyes for essentials. Their steak pie, chips and mushy peas was to die for! 😍 Very reasonable priced too. Boyes is where Dreams happen... 😅

Is it usual in Yorkshire to make steak pie with shortcrust pastry? In Scotland it normally is done with flaky pastry . It looked delicious.
