This was excellent. I'm a HUGE Batman fan so this was right up my street. You have some awesome choices, Hush is a belter. To my shame though, I still haven't read Dark Victory, but I will lol Have you read White Knight? It's part of DC's Black Label editions and flips the story where The Joker is the good guy and Batman is the bad guy. I recently bought it and was wondering if it was good
Yo! I just read Long Halloween and Dark Victory for the first time based on your video! What a story! Loved them both. The short interactions between Robin and Alfred in Dark Victory were awesome! Thanks for sharing video!
Your '10 Best Batman Graphic Novels' has a significant overlap with my own list. I approve! (Although...given that I was already in college during the 'Knightfall' years, hearing that style referred to as 'vintage' did make me twitch.) I'm not sure if it was ever made into a graphic novel, but back in 1990 there was a Batman Annual ("Eye of the Beholder") with a great Twoface story. If you can find it, I'd definitely recommend it! Also...If you haven't watched any of the films, btw, you would probably like the animated adaptation of 'Under the Red Hood'.
Haha my bad! Vintage is a good thing for me. That is where all the cool stuff comes from 😝. I have seen the adaptation of Under the Red Hood and it was fantastic!
Nailed it! A heap of good stuff there! I missed the Dark Knight Returns, but glad Year One made it. Pretty much all of Scott Snyder's stuff has been great, particularly Year Zero. And let's not forget Batman & Superman: Saga of the Super Sons. Super groovy stuff!
The Dark Night Returns was so close to making the list. There were a lot of good one's that were close like Batman: Earth One and Batman RIP and Batman Incorporated. Glad you enjoyed though! I was like, "I hope Mark agrees with these choices" when I published the video 😂.
This is a great video! I don't read a lot of comics, but I would definitely pick up the one where you learn Harvey Dent's villain origin! Love a good villain origin story *muahaha*
you all probably dont give a damn but does anyone know a method to get back into an Instagram account? I was stupid lost my password. I would appreciate any tricks you can give me
i am literaly watching a lot of Top 10 best Batman stories. Because i am a longtime Batman Fan for years, watched the cartoons, animated and live action movies and the Arkham Games. And after the Arkham Games, i really wanted to dive into the Comics, which the Games are partly based on and i loved them. Dark Victory, Black Mirror and Arkham Asylum are stories i didn´t readed yet. And thanks for not spoiling anything for the Dark Victory. And it is nice to see Under the Red Hood in here, because i enjoyed the story a lot. What i personally liked a lot was not mentioned here is Batman 89, which is a Sequel to the Tim Burton Batman Movies. And i think it captures the style and atmosphere of the Burton Movies really good.
ive never really read any comics but i love all the batman villains, his are the most interesting and memorable i feel. ill definitely try some one day
Like all of them, and you pretty mich nailed the top 10. Also since some of Batmans best stories have to deal with The Joker there are also a few Joker graphic novels worth getting some pretty vicious. I highly recommend a newer one called Joker by Azzarello, and Bermejo it is really good. Also one more good Batman story JLA-The Tower of Babel
Thanks!! I'm happy you like the list 😊. I will definitely have to look up these ones you are recommending. I always love Joker stories because he is such an intriguing villain.
I haven't heard about so many of these. I love DC comics more than Marvel. Marvel uses too many detours to other series and DC doesn't do that. I hate the detours. Batman Arkham Asylum sounds so good. I adored the Killing Joke. It was so so good.
You nailed it, the first 3 batman books everyone should start with, as a new reader, should always be Year One, Long Halloween and Dark Victory, in that order, one leads to another and it's great, they feel like watching a (good) movie. Might I suggest another one after reading Dark Victory? "Catwoman: When in Rome", it's a direct sequel to Dark Victory, and really worth reading, it's also by Tim Sale and Joeph Loeb, and also has a matt cover (I also love the texture on these covers). I would also suggest some books from the New 52, and a few others: • Batman (New 52): Court of the Owls and City of the Owls (the first 2 volumes) • Batman Eternal (New 52): absolutely great, mysterious and interesting to read. • Batman Broken City.. GREAT ART and Noir kind of story • Detective Comics Rebirth.. just get all 4 Deluxe Hardcovers and you won't be disappointed.
Thanks!! Glad you approve 😊. I love Catwoman so I will look into that one. I have read A Court of Owls and it almost made the list. The other ones I will look up!
Nice refreshing list! Too many lists are far too predictable throwing in stuff like Dark Knight or Death in the Family. Monumental moments in both Batman and comics but their name value overshadows a lot of stories that are just as good and in some cases better. I've got Long Halloween, Dark Victory and Hush to read and looking forward to them. Few suggestions that never get mentioned but are worth the time: 'Going Sane' is AMAZING. Hardly spoke about for some reason but it's a belter, and I'm sure the recent Joker film must have taken elements from it. 'Jekyll and Hyde' is a fun read incorporating Two Face, and 'Lovers and Madmen' is another fantastic take on Joker. One last thing, Dave McKeans artwork from Arkham Asylum. That was one of his first ever comic jobs, straight out of art school. Immense stuff, that and his covers for Sandman are elite examples.
Thanks man!! There are honestly so many great Batman comics out there that are yet to be discovered! And thanks for the recs you gave me. I will definitely be adding them to my list to pick up 😊. I knew his art was familiar!
My top ten Batman Comics would be Batman Earth one, Batman Year One, Batman Flashpoint, Batman the killing Joke, Batman Hush, Batman Court of Owls, Batman Three Jokers, Batman: Whatever happened to the Caped crusader, Batman Red hood:lost days and finally Batman White Knight
Court of Owls almost made the list! And someone else talked about White Knight and how great it apparently is so I need to check it out. Love your list!
I really like the rich heroes because that's actually acieveable for us mere mortals. I'm not a huge fan of Batman, but might give some of his comics a try in the future 😊
My top 10 Batman stories Batman The Long Halloween Batman The Killing Joke Batman The Man Who Laughs Batman Venom Batman Earth One Batman The Deadly Maiden Batman War Batman The Dark Victory Batman Year One Batman Hush
Year one 👌🏻 yes absolutely The long Halloween, how did I miss this one and it’s SEQUEL. Real quick question. Is the hangman called that because he hangs people? Would love to know for a trigger. This list was great! The ones I knew I love and the ones I missed I wrote down!(: A Court of Owls is a favorite of mine! So creepy and trippy 🦉 👀
Yes, they are called that because their weapon of choice is a noose so maybe avoid that one but you could replace it with Batman and Robin: Born to Kill if you haven't read that one. It was another close contender for the list. Court of Owls was very close to making the list as well 😊.
Is the Arkham Asylum comic what the game is based on? Or is that a coincidence? Never read the comics but am definitely interested in starting great vid!
I think it is loosely based on it. The comic is so cool though because it has such a unique art style that makes you feel like you are in a dream while reading it.
I don’t know much about the dark knight, but it’s your video so I will still watch! The main thing I know is that thing that goes like denenenennenene BATMAN. Lol yes I KNOW. Dumb. XD. Oooo the first year! That’s always interesting. Ooo I get it. HOLIDAY! Joker and two face huh. I honestly don’t know how twoface came to be. ROBIN!! I don’t know anyone in the comic industry sooo. I’ve heard of Arkham asylum though. Art style= artistic. I’ve heard of the killing joke too. Yeah I heard joker had a MESSED up past. Oh wait I’ve seen that cover. It scared me cause I was 7 at the time. And I still don’t want to read it because TrAumA! OOO THE FEMALE VILLAINS!!! Colors!!! My brother told me alllll the robins. NIGHTWING!! Oof yeah Jason’s death must’ve been hard! BATMANS SON!!! I watched a movie on that. Nightwing was pretty snarky and I loved it!!! Really bloody though. Ooo Barbara Gordon. You seemed so happy while explaining all of these. Markus has not been mentioned again. Oof. Loved the video! Have a wonderful day!!!
Aw Katie! You are amazing 😊. I was very happy talking about these because comics are a passion of mine so it's fun to make videos about them every once and a while even if they don't do great for views 🙂.
It depends what you prefer! I started out with paperback single issues but more recently I enjoy graphic novels that have 5 to 6 issues in them. I also prefer paperback over hardcover because I find it is easier to hold in one hand 😛.
I’ve been meaning to read The Killing Joke for a while now. I had purchased it for my dad a few years ago and it’s still in plastic 🤣🤣🤣🤣 He thinks that it’ll be worth a lot of money in the future. Oh well. Hopefully he is right lol

That makes me so happy to hear! I was very proud of this video when I put it out 😊
Omg yesss I need this!
“I kinda just want to talk about Batman” 😂 I feel that in my bones.
Haha me ALL THE TIME 😅.
Batman venom is a good one, its a prequel to knightfall and its about batman taking the drug that bane uses (venom) and he later loses control.
Oh that sounds awesome! Thanks for the rec 😊

Hi, Jess I definitely reccomend you read Poison Ivy, Harley Quinn, and Catwoman (preferably the '89 one her origin in that pretty great).

The Dark Knight Returns? Probably the best Batman comic ever.
It was on my list of options and I own it but it didn't make the cut for my top 10 🤔
