The Spiritual Power of the Feminine Qualities | Emily Baldoni

  • BahaiTeachings.org Presents... Actress, activist and Baha'i Emily Baldoni tells the tale of her 35-hour labor during a drug-free home birth-and what it taught her about the strength of her femininity. In that grueling process, she realizes the power of her own feminine qualities, of love, peace and compassion-and also realizes that the masculine power system cannot get us there on its own. Emily using the writings of the Baha'i Faith outlines the ways those crucial feminine traits, so very often belittled and devalued, can help us all-men and women-seriously question and redefine the way we relate to power.

I love how you emphasize the importance of both masculine and feminine qualities. You have given me a lot to meditate upon. It will be amazing when feminine qualities are more valued and embraced in this culture.

This is SO relevant right now while the world is in lockdown and being forced to slow down !! We will be called to build a new social order that balances masculine/ feminine. Thank you for this talk.

true power comes only and only from within, from your soul.

I think the talk mentioned a few interesting things:
    1. Birthing as the feminine power: yes birthing is a women's thing and I actually think that men have ruled because they envy women for that power. Men tried to control everything, especially the sexuality and reproduction of women, which makes the whole thing suspicious. It would take to long to describe my whole thought about this issue here, but I will try to make it clear in short. Men always knew that women are more important for babies than themselves. Not only in humans but in most of nature. Women feed the babies and birth them, men are just needed to make them, not to grow them and not to keep them alive. The experience of birth and growing life in you is a very powerful one and one that men will never know. of course women will never know what penetrating someone else feels like, but they know what am orgasm feels like. So they can at least relate. But men can never relate to the experience of giving birth. Some close male friends and my father have confessed to me that they envy women for that experience. Somehow they said they feel inferior to women because if they look in nature (or in humans) it seems that the female is much more important then the male. The female is somehow the future while males are often expendable. As for example in many mammals the males are killing each other just for sex, while the females are much more interested in keeping the species alive. Those friends often told me that they feel an inner conflict with seeing in nature and everywhere that the female is more important for the species and hearing from society tha females are inferior to men. I think it is an inferiority complex that made men the asshole they were when they completely oppressed women for centuries (and in some cultures even today). I also think that is why monolithic religions think there is a male God. This concept contrasts with mother earth, which allows life and this concept was erased. Now we have destroyed our planet. maybe just a coincidence.
    2. Birth connected with force etc.: we often see things that females should become more masculine in order to archive anything. And I think that is bullshit. We completely erased the female perspective to anything. Which is especially interesting in medicine which was originally a female domain. Especially birth and birth control where in female hands, but then science came along, the "witches" were burnt (witches were just females who knew plant medicine) and suddenly only men were able to assist while birth. although they know nothing about birthing. This last until today. And if you read historic texts about indigenous peoples the births there are described as fast, not very painful and "animal like". Also deaths did not occur often. I think it is interesting that especially death became more common when men took over and made giving birth to a medical condition which needs drugs and the pharma industry.
    3. The spirituality of femininity: by eliminating the female perspective out of every possible aspect of life, we have lost a kind of spirituality that is connected with our mother earth. We have forgotten all natural things and life in a society of science and fake. Not everything can or must be described with science. Sometimes it is perfectly fine to hear to your intuition without scientific evidence. And sometimes the natural is better than the fake. I would be amused to see a bull that does not want to fuck with the cow because the cow has not enough silicon in its udder. The male needs to impress the female that is natural we can see it in many species. And men have impressed females by producing "fake" (human made) things, but I would argue that we do have enough human made things now while our nature is suffering and declining. So let's reconnect with feminity with spirituality the sake of your future :)

I so very much love what you say. I have never thought about it like this. The example of giving birth is so powerful and symbolic! I try to inspire every woman to experience the beauty of giving birth without drugs (I gave birth to 4 children) Listing to you, I even more understand why it is so important to experience this way of feeling power. It's trusting, it's surrending to something higher, it's intuition, it's love and compassion, it's dedication, it's rythme. As I help women to connect to the sacred feminine, your speach opened my eyes on an aspect, I simply forgot. Thank you very much.

A world with a balance of feminine and masculine traits is the best. I think if you choose to live your life in your own essence - a mix of feminine and masculine traits - why one usually more dominant than the other. Masculine traits arent necessarily what it is to be male and feminine traits are solely what it is to be female. We are all a mix. But both should be encouraged. Men should tap into feminine traits they have and women should tap into masculine traits they have. And it's besutiful

    • @imatabb3646

The masculine complements the feminine and the feminine complements the masculine.
The so called balanced person does not need to have a partner. And it's part of the genderless, trans agenda of the 2030.
Biologically it translates into testosterone and estogen. Man has more tostesterone and woman more estrogen. These hormones control your body, your brain and emotions .... In a totally different way.

So strange in the Netherlands you have to beg for painkillers when you give birth :) 99% of the natural births women do without pain killers. One of my friends, she is dutch and give birth to her first child in the Netherlands and the second in the USA. She had to sign a paper when she said she don't want to have any drugs while she's giving birth to her second child and half the hospital was come looking because in 1994 this was in the USA something like a weird human being :) well we dutchies don't know any better than giving birth without any drugs.
And thanks Emily this was very good to hear as a woman in a mans job (ICT) it's hard to get a voice and place.

Base on the definition that is mentioned by your quoting from dictionary, it is another slap on critic who brought up the "omnipotence paradox" to challenge the concept of "Almighty" , they willfully misunderstand the word "all-powerful" as "can do anything", hence leads them to such a paradox, which is however not what "all-powerful" means, because "powerful" doesn't mean "can do something", but "capable to comprehensively controls over all".
Since the definition is even given in dictionary without ambiguity, I am still shocked that the so called "atheist" are still volunteering to misunderstand theology, to satisfied their ego of refusal.

And why not, as it stands, our mainland society wants the "quick fix" we're bankrupt in many areas...one obvious symptom is the of abuses of pain medication. No believes in the power of discipline anymore and how this helps to shape our brain, really the spirit (more powerful) for the the better. Very few actually believe in the power to living through pain... it's really sickening. I hate to have this belief, but this is reality.

Okay, but why is it that things like strength, independence, and confidence are supposedly "masculine" qualities. Those are gender neutral to me. And why are things like sharing, affection, and even love on her "feminine" list. Again, those are gender neutral! It's dangerous to categorize qualities that everyone should have into feminine and masculine boxes.

It’s biological. Men are significantly stronger than women. Women are more emotional than men. That is why, those will be categorised as male and female qualities.

August I get where you're coming from, I even agree with you to some extent. Thing is, its not that these qualities are present only in men or women, (clearly both sexes possess these qualities) its just that some qualities are more inherent in women than men, and vice versa.

      N. Amauri Cristiano I agree with you about men being biologically stronger than women but i don’t think women are biologically more emotional. I mean it’s social conditioning since a young age (I.e the type of toys little girls are given vs little boys) correct me if I’m wrong (not being sarcastic) and there’s a neurochemical or something that women are born with that makes them emotional?

    • @christinebadostain6887

I don't think of it as gender but as energy---men are created with certain masculine energies that are very useful if balanced by his feminine qualities and likewise women have been created as carriers of more receptive energies which should be balanced out by her masculine traits----it's all about striving for balance. However, that does not mean that we ought to strive for 50/50---wouldn't that be kind of boring? One definition of balance is "justice."

I don’t think there is such a thing as a « true nature » of femininity and masculinity, just what we have built them to be in the Western world (because no, they are not the same everywhere and they didn’t evolve the same way through time in various areas). I wish we deconstructed masculinity and femininity instead of thinking we are born a certain way because of our sex and acknowledge the impact of socialization. That’s my view as an anthropologist anyway.
