007'S SEAN CONNERY'S THUMB POKE

JKD Sifu Mike Goldberg of Fort Worth learned this nasty "thumb poke" to the armpit trick a long time ago from his Green Beret Father Patrick Joseph Corcoran who served in the Korean War and decided to share the experience with his best friend and fellow JKD Sifu Raymond Bray of. The armpit area is considered a vital area because of the amount of blood that passes through it. When Ray wrapped his big arms around Sifu Mike applying the frontal bear hug Sifu Mike executed the thumb poke DEEP into the armpit area which forced Sifu Bray back shifting his weight just far enough to make it easier for Sifu Goldberg to postion his leg behind Sifu Bray's leg for a takedown to give him time to run away!!! For those of you OLD enough, you might have seen the movie called "The Presidio" with 007's Sean Connery using this thumb poke in a barroom fight. Like myself, Mr. Connery had studied Kyokushinkai Karate and I remember breaking boards with this technique when I was younger. It's a very handy tool to have in your self defense tool belt!!!

Definitely NOT Bruce, but, the poke definitely will wake up your attacker for sure.

That looks like it could work if your attacker is fairly slow/careless.

It's a great tool against a frontal bear hug which I demonstrate in a previous video where I insert my thumb into the armpit of my attacker where the carotid is located which is a fatal stab area. It's NOT a finishing blow as mentioned in the description element. Appreciate your input.

I somehow had not seen The Presidio, though I had seen Rising Sun ( you have seen that movie in which there is a scene where he uses what looks like a thumb poke to the throat of a security guard ( they don't show his thumb, only the guard wheezing after a quick move by Sean ). I will have to try this technique, as self defense skills are becoming more and more important in today's crazy world.
Just watched The Presidio scene. I like how at the end when they are walking out the door the other guy says to Sean, "About your daughter - my intentions are strictly honorable" a nod to Sean's line to Ursula Andress in Dr. No.

Thumb poke in the throat is definitely effective. It was a GREAT scene for SURE!!! But, when you watch "The Presidio" you'll see at least 12 stunt people were involved in that one scene!!! You can also take a look at Gary Dillman's pressure point view or any other practitioner that does. The poke though NOT meant to be a FINISHING move it sure an great opener in close quarters.
