And Alistair Taylor (Brian Epstein's assistant and friend of The Beatles, in particular Paul, who even stayed with him and Jane in Scotland), goes into great detail about what happened. He says the same as the others, that Paul was devastated. ''Jane’s departure shattered him. It was the only time I saw him totally distraught and lost for words.''
According to Alistair, Paul did try to get Jane to forgive him and take him back, but her mind was made up. When she mentioned their breakup on live television about a month or so after she left him, (which was said to have shocked Paul) I think he must have realised that she was not coming back. It was over. Around this time he wrote Hey Jude, Martha My Dear, Honey Pie, The Long and Winding Road, and Let It Be. I personally think they are all to do with Jane leaving him. Note the ad-lib he sings between takes of I Will called Can You Take Me Back? I Will was about Jane, penned soon after their engagement. When Paul got round to recording the song after Jane left him, the two outtakes that are available to listen to are notably negative for a positive song.
Then the lines ''I'd hate to miss the train/And if you leave me, I won't be late again'' in I've Got a Feeling. Paul began living with the Asher family in late 1963 after he missed his train home to Liverpool. Mrs. Asher suggested he stay the night, and one night became two-and-a-half years. It was the catalyst in turning their courtship into a relationship. Paul was bitter. ''Jane was the first woman to reject him, and he did not like the experience'', said Alistair.
In December 1968, six months after their split, Paul was quoted as telling a journalist that he and Jane ''were still in love with one another, but it's impossible.'' He wrote Oh! Darling around then.
Paul had abruptly lost another woman in his life. Jane reminds me of his mother, too.
Jane Asher, the one who got away...
Peter Brown (writing a second book I want) said that Jane was the only person who had any control over Paul, which basically means he respected her in the sense that he allowed her to reason with him. He also wrote that when they broke up -what humility Paul had left was gone. Time period he became a egotistical narcissist, began drinking heavy and did excessive drugs.This supports Alastair Taylor, Derek Taylor-he became "colder" and "more cynical." Derek was a great guy (Stevie Nicks fell in love with him and wrote "Beautiful child" in tribute. He wrote in his book that he had never hated anyone the way he hated Paul during the summer of 1968. He should have just said when they broke up. Paul brought this colder and more cynical attitude in the studio which eventually led to terrible consequences with the other three Beatles and the end of the group. Had their break up not happened, the Beatles would have remained together but did solo work. I believe this based on the timing and the arguments. I also found out that George and Jane continued to be close friends up until his death. There is a picture of her with George and Ravi on a boat in 1971 during a trip back to India with he and Patti. Their continued close friendship for years could have led to Paul's behavior towards George. “George was sweet, generous and always funny. He’d arrive at rehearsals [at Bray Studios, 1991] with flowers and on one occasion ordered a cake from the company of his old friend, Jane Asher. The cake, a huge replica of the stage set, complete with detailed marzipan figures of each musician, was immediately given pride of place in front of the stage." And, while I am going on and on about Paul, let us not forget that he broke Jane's heart. She said in a interview that her and Gerald favorite song was "Without You" by Harry Nilsson. Listen to the lyrics as it sounds like a response.

In 2002, PM had written a song about "trains" but did not release it. At this time he was married to Heather Mills.

People think he's "mad" but he's still waiting for her train to come in? Okay..Myself and another went through PM's entire song catalog and I would say about 90% are about Jane. Not only that, but his movie, his videos, etc.. It is so obvious.
They are not irrelevant, as they explain why the songs were written in the first place, and the meaning behind them. Jane Asher was obviously a very important person in this, and she does not get enough credit. I understand you're saying that without their breakup = no songs. But most are not aware, they seem to think the breakup meant nothing to Paul, and therefore the songs aren't about Jane. The context surrounding the songs, and just by looking at the lyrics itself, challenge their opinion.

George actually.. um.. didn’t - I don’t think, get his relationship right.. I think they were arguing right up till the end, which I think is a great source of sadness to him.. And I’m sure in the feeling of this song, that George was always planning to tell John he loved him, but time ran out. So that’s what the song is about. Just saw this and no -it was not about John or his murder. Paul went to John's house in the mid-70s. This was about the kidding showing up on SNL. But Paul continued to come over unannounced and John told him that he had a family, and he would have to ring him up. This angered Paul. In John's last interview he said he basically repeated this to the interviewer and said he did not mean it like it was taken. This tells me that they ceased speaking again. So no, there was no make up and John died. Browne wrote about this in his book -that Paul had lost that opportunity and had to live with it. The video is of India and Jane was with him. And, this song is about a marriage that never happened. His lyrics "What kind of magic might have worked if we had stayed calm (breakup), couldn't I have given you a better life?" Ah, that's Jane all day long.

This song was written during Linda years after having 3 children with her and an eventual 30 yr marriage to her. Paul and Linda had never slept apart during their entire marriage. It isn't about Peter Asher's sister Jane who was a mere 17 when she met Macca. By all evidence Linda was the love of his life.

She came in and slept with Paul. Paul told Stash and Linda to leave and they went to Graham Nash's house where they stayed for three days. Stash said that Hendrix and Roger Daughtry teased him over the phone, because "Linda got around." Can you imagine what they said, when he actually married her? I'm sure he was the brunt of jokes.
