My first thought was "why 21mm lug width?" Then I realized that $80,000 watches aren't strap monsters, I wouldn't change anything about this watch. JLC Master Control Moonphase is on my grail list. I love JLC.
My late father was a watchmaker all of his life and his favourite watches to work on were JLC, Zenith and Rolex, so that kind of backs up what you say about JLC being the watchmakers watchmaker. My father tastes have rubbed off on me as I have quite a few JLCs in my collection and I purchased a tiny, beautiful JLC vintage ladies white gold, back-wind watch with diamonds around the bezel for my wife. It is so elegant and petite. My wife absolutely loves to wear it when we go out for dinner etc and it is a complete change from the Rolex Datejust or Longines that she wears during the day. Great channel Jenni
The movement "Is the watch" .....The rest is just the face, case and bracelet. People often say that JLC don't get the attention they deserve. The reality however, is that JLC only get the attention "They want!" When JLC perfected an even superior date window system for their watches recently, they sold their old date patent to A, Lange and Sohne This is just a small example of why they are so esoterically appreciated and acquired by some of the most serious watch collectors out there.
Great review! I think the JLC Master with the moon phase has to be in the conversation for top dress watches. Would be great to compare that to the Lange and Patek equivalent watches and to something cheaper
My understanding is that tourbillons had a function in wall clocks and vertical clocks in general. In watches, gravity doesn't play always in the same way as you move your wrist all the time. For watches is a complication more on the piece of art and engineering sidd of things, than anything else 👍
It looks like there is a little defect between the hashmarks on the tourbillon movement a little left to the 12 o’clock position between the third and 4th hashes. I know it’s a macro lens, but that really surprised me.
Great video as usual. I probably will never see a watch like this in the watch hunts in Pawn Shops or Estate Sales. When priced at this level limits buyers to the 1% of the population.
Hi Jenni, wonderful to see another video of yours! After trying on several of the JLC MUT line, I must say that their proportion of dial/case is somewhat unbalanced. Big dials with small markers versus thin case with short lugs make the watches look a bit 'empty'. JLC should really bring the diameter down a few mm and increase the size of the markers & lugs, the line would be epic! When will you be doing a video on ladies watches?!
A tourbillon at its heart needs just one more gear wheel than a regular mech. watch. I think there's no reason for it to cost more than a small premium over other types of watches, especially since it actually does nothing to improve performance. Btw, whose arm is shown in the watch photos? Thanks.
Adding a tourbillion to a watch does not increase its value by 30k like these brands want you to believe. Added cost to manufacture is more like an extra 1.5k at most. Chinese can make a functional one for $350. But those profit margins are thick.
Has there ever been a manufacturer in modern times that has made a tourbillon but hasn't showed it off either by displaying it through the dial or the case back? If so, is that pointless or just interesting?
There has. I can’t remember if it was an A Lange…? But ya, since it really doesn’t help accuracy a meaningful amount, and if you can’t see it while wearing it, I guess it’s just interesting to the owner, unless you take it off to show people all the time. Beyond my budget so I’m not about to knock anyone who did buy one.
Love JLC for the dress side of watches (not a lover of the dive watches) but find it hard to understand does a Tourbillon make such an impact on accuracy, I have seen many reports of Omegas that have accuracy of 1 sec or even 0 sec , I even own a Tudor BB with in-house movement that runs -1 sec a day so do you really need a Tourbillon with its expensive price tag ?
tourbillions do nothing for wrist watches, they were designed for pocket watches that hung in a consistent orientation so the moment rotated to equalise the effect of gravity on the moment. in a wrist watch it's just a visually impressive complication
@@MrDead1975 cheers for the info that’s a lot of money to show case the complication you can make , for me all you need is a free sprung balance like Rolex use and fine tune it , dare I say even the coaxial is even OTT sorry omega fanboys I even owned a SMP coaxial and own omegas so I am not an omega hater
Guys, complications are not what makes a watch expensive. Brand name does. You can buy the most complicated watch from China for $50. Edit: Obviously an exaggeration, $350 though.
@@chia-mingyang5804 but I’ll save you some time. The AESOP is a tourbillon that can be found for as little as $350. Sure it won’t be as nice as a 60,000 swiss, but the mechanics are NOT expensive to make. You’ve been lied to your whole life pal, and you’ve eaten it all up. 🤦♂️
The watch is ridiculously priced. There is no watch I am spending 80k on. That is way too self indulgent. People think that rich people don’t need to think about prices. I am related to very rich people and they wouldn’t give away a dime. They divide checks to the penny in restaurants and never pick up the check. The price matters to them.
Tourbillon is not my thing. It only makes a watch unnecessarily expensive. I really like JLC's Memovox function, but their current models with this function do not interest me.
60k is not a value proposition for a tourbillon. This is entry level gronefeld money. This is IWC minute repeater money. What on earth are watch reviewers smoking....
I cringe each time I hear "Jeje" LeCoultre. Yeah, Swiss, French, whatever. But FFS, this is a German name. "Jeje" may be fine for a French speaker, but internationally it sounds ridiculous.
The tourbillon is cool but the watch it self screams AliExpress generic watch design, for that it’s simply not even close to being worth it especially since their most recognizable watch ( reverso ) costs about 15 times less
@@richardattridge3182 Check out 1:33 😄 Suddenly we get this arm full of yellow hair. It's probably Jenni's husband, but she didn't explain it properly.
Hi. One of my comments under your video got a reply from account with your profile picture - someone asked me to contact him in telegram for give away. That isn't you, right ?🤔
The tourbillion is the most utterly useless complication, and technically it's not even a complication since it adds nothing to the functionality, performance or accuracy of the watch. Have you ever seen a tourbillion quoting its improved chronometric performance - no, neither have I? So it's about as useful as a cuckoo which pops out of the dial on the hour. - actually I'd pay more for one of those! So I love my JLC Master Ultra Thin Small Seconds and other high-end watches from Patek, Vacheron, Lange and Moser, but you won't find me wasting my money on a pointless tourbillion fidget spinner
@@garyboyle695 Wow, you found one, congratulations. But is there any evidence the tourbillion is actually helping the accuracy? Meanwhile there are plenty of COSC certified non-tourbillions, so what advantage is there? A more important source of inaccuracy in mechanical watches is the non-linear force in the spring, so a much cleverer and more useful feature is some type of constant force mechanism. I love fusee and chain mechanisms for clocks, but they're really quite ridiculous in watches, so I think remontoires make a lot more sense, though I guess they just don't look as fidget spinnery as a tourbillion. So when Jenni comes back to discuss remontoires I'll be more impressed. PS, FYI, my most accurate watch by far is an IWC Tribute to Pallweber, which though it technically doesn't use a remontoire achieves much the same effect using 2 separate going trains. And the 2nd most accurate, a Habring Doppel Felix which is basically a 7750, so go figure.
It does exists a 100% Swiss made skeletonized tourbillon for ~5’500 USD made of titanium grade 5, manual widing, and 105 hours of power reserve. It’s from the brand “Ba111od”, and it’s really awesome ! (And I’m not even paid for this advertising 🥲) I can share a link to purchase one of this pieces if someone is interested.

I Simply don’t like the whole in the watch dials. But I like JLC Watches and I’m looking forward to try JLC ultra in watch in gold with small seconds.
What video editing software do you use? I love the new videos’ structure
Too large, dress watches are now 38mm or smaller, it's the way it's going! I know people with larger wrists will disagree but facts are facts!!
Long time back you said, when we think of JLC nothing comes to mind other than reverso 😂😂😂
Different subject. Any thoughts about Watchmaster? I heard they were burglarized and lost more than 1000 mostly customer consigned watches.
