- John Petrucci received the Sena Performers European Guitar Award in 2019. He played "Glasgow Kiss" and "Lost Without You" and had a guitar duel with his wife Rena Sands in the song "Jessica" from The Allman Brothers. His backing band was: Koen Herfst on drums,
Rob van der Loo on bass, Darius Timmer on organ and Mark Bogert on guitar. Each year The Award Show takes place in Gebouw T in Bergen op Zoom in the Netherlands. Previous Award winners were: Leendert Haaksma, Dany Lademacher, Adrian van den Berg, Jan Akkerman, Steve Lukather, Brian May, George Kooymans, Slash, Walter Trout, Steve Vai, Joe Bonnamassa and Joe Satriani,

Reyna played ABB Jessica .. for a fast tempo song track she kept up really well and exhibited some sweet bends, trills, pull offs, hammer On and some slide in lead techniques .. she didn't miss a Que either on harmony lead .. what a legacy video of their live performance for their kids to watch forever
I'm pretty envious of the fact that Rena and John are both into music like this, must be such a great thing to share such a love together. My wife's jam with me is shouting at me to stop playing as I'm riffing.

John was absolutely perfect performing Glasgow Kiss this time! The backing band also really damn good! The mixing was superb, amazing!!
Best Glasgow Kiss live EVER. That's why John has to hire a guitarist and a keyboard player to play with him live. The music is much more complete live this way.

First time I saw Petrucci live was Dream Theater's Images and Words tour. Long time ago. He seemed like he was from another planet. He had to be right? Nobody is that good or that nice. The most humble and brilliant guitarist to ever grace this planet.
Nah, I would say that one is Paul Gilbert, but both Petrucci and Satriani may be a really close second... xDxD The three of them are so extremly humble, nice to everybody, and so damn good at playing guitar.

What always strikes me about John Petrucci is that his technique is so good that everything seems so effortless, even in parts where most guitarists would sweat their ass over.

Rob is Epica's bassist. He used to play with pick, so this is the first time i watch his bluesy fingering. Unusual, but its great.

I could listen to JP playing for hours, and talking for hours as well. He's so talented and humble at the same time. Satriani and Vai are the same, they are my heroes and also an inspiration, and I don't even play guitar :D

When I was kid in Columbus years ago, I was at a Dream Theater show and I got everyone's autograph but John's and John Myung's. We were told Myung didn't really sign but that John Petrucci was beat and already in the bus. My friend and I did our best to convince Mike Portnoy to go get him.

--"Alright I'll try, but I can't promise you anything!"
--"That's cool, thanks! “
Sure enough, a few minutes later, here comes Petrucci around the corner with a scowl and a few choice words for us. But...he signed for us and I'll never forget it. Thanks to John, for being cool to a couple annoying kids. You're a class act!

This video is such a gift! If anyone deserves this award, it's Petrucci. The backing band was great, as was his wife Rena. John is such a humble and nice guy, and has recorded some of the best prog metal guitar ever laid down. He's my fav guitarist, and Dream Theater is my fav band. For anyone interested, I have a lot of DT uploads with more coming. Not hawking for subs, just wanting to share my love for DT and all things Prog. Petrucci is the man!

Nice! I took a jazz improvisation class with Rena at the New School in NYC back in the Fall of 1994. We sat next to each other every class- she was real cool and played guitar on a local cable show at that time. They were already married, and his star was bigtime on the rise, so sometimes we would talk about that and about my upcoming wedding, but mostly about guitar and the class. Great class, taught by the fantastic Woody Mann. Somehow, the second I saw a female standing next to John, I knew it was her. Cool to see her after all these years, and to see they are still together.
What a genuinely awesome dude he is! He is just BURSTING with pride watching and listening to his beloved bride just rip shit up!

I got so emotional watching this video, I have been following John’s career since I started playing guitar more than 10 years ago.. Congratulations Mr John, I wish you long life, keep rock man !!
I’ve met AND followed sooo many guitarists over the years; but John Petrucci IS, simply put...very special. EVERYTHING about him is perfect. He’s not only a great player, but also extremely humble, a great dad, wonderful husband, a teacher AND inspiration to so many all around the world. He is very worthy and deserving of these long overdue accolades and awards. Including his own guitar line with the worlds best guitar manufacturer, Ernie Ball Music Man. Can’t wait to see him again next fall at Dreamcatcher Events JPGU#3 (Whoo hoo)! Till then...Rock on JP (AND Rena too for that matter)! ☮️&💟 🤘🏻💯🤘🏻

Petrucci is awesome. Been to a few of his guitar clinics years back. Super nice guy. Best guitarist in the world as well. I've been playing guitar for 25 years, and Petrucci and Vai were the guys who got me into it and inspired me.

John should keep this live setup, especially the keyboard/organ. It bring out the epicness of his John's compositions.
The organ adds a nice "flavour" to the songs and makes the solo parts stand out more (IMHO). Kudos!

That's the way these megastar guitar players are, at least the really good ones. I watched Paul Gilbert in some music school clinic and the "best" player in the school got to jam with Paul. He could have crushed the poor kid, but Paul played down to his level and actually let the kid win in one of those classic back and forth battles. Now, we all know how it should have ended, but Paul let this 15 year old kid have his moment of glory and hung his head "in defeat" and made that kids whole year. The look on his face was like "...wait...I just beat Paul Gilbert in a guitar duel? Whoa..." So good.

Very, VERY odd to see and hear JP being backed by another guitarist and on one of his songs, at that. What an excellent job the house band did, JP seemed impressed and contented about it.

I've been a fan of John's since 1989. He keeps proving what a good artist can be. Both in his skill and artistry as well as his humble demeanor and gratitude. The last bit with him synchronizing with his wife was the cherry on top.
Damn, these songs come alive in such arrangement. Rhythm guitar and especially keyboards bring a new quality to what is, at least for me, a stripped-down version when performed as a trio. Great stuff!

This was great. John Petrucci is easily one of the very best guitarists in the world. I had no idea that his wife played guitar as well, and she is obviously really good. It was very cool to see them playing together on the last song, and it was really cool that they ended the set with Jessica by The Allman Brothers Band. The Allman Brothers Band is not the style of which John Petrucci is generally associated, so it was cool to see him throw the audience a bit of curveball.
I got to play in front of John and it was so cool!!!
I met Johns Wife when she was playing lead guitar for an all female tribute band called “Judas Priestess” at the hard rock in Myrtyle Beach, Sc. I completed her on her guitar and she said “Thanks, its my husbands prototype”. So i asked her, who her husband was and she said it was John. She had to pause the convo because he called her about buying something for their daughter at the store. Then she came back to talk more about the guitar and music. Very kind and talented folks, it was cool to meet her and John is a lucky and blessed man who slays on the guitar with his wife. It was cool that at the end of this performance they played the instrumental “Jessica” with the dual guitar harmonies written by Dickey Betts about his daughter.

I don't ever want to hear people say JP is nothing but shred. He ALWAYS thinks of the melody and the chords going by, and his melodic solos, like in Lost Without You, have SO.MUCH.FEELING! And he graces the melodies with quick little runs, just like you hear in classical music. He's the whole package.
