So nice to see a video showcasing Meta - it seems like all the lolita content on UA-cam is AP AP AP, with maybe a little indie stuff sprinkled in. Thank you for this retrospective!

the window print OP is fully shirred and super comfy for me, but i recommend it for under 100cm bust because the skirt loses volume much after that

Music Note OP: I LOVE IT!! So comfy!! I am 110 bust and 96 waist and there’s plenty of room and it is one of my FAVORITE pieces!!

I love seeing content about Meta! Meta and ETC are my favorite brands and I don't see nearly enough content about either of them.

38:40 I owned this OP, it was the first brand dress I got. I was a dutch size 42-44 at the time and I'm 164cm tall. The shirring isn't as generous as it might seem. It's also quite short (I recommend for people 160cm tall or under). The Lolibrary page recommends being under 100cm bust, being under 80cm waist. I think that's a recommendation you should follow otherwise it's not going to be comfortable and it's not going to look as good.
I'm sure for this design the less generous shirring was on purpose as to not distort the print too much. There are solid shirred dresses from the era that had much more generous shirring.
A more generously shirred printed dress from 2003 would be the Window Print OP, which went to 120cm bust and 110cm waist. It was very popular at the time with the plus sized crowd.
I loved the ivory colorway but didn't get it because it was another high waisted dress and not long enough for me.
The plus sized friendly era really kicked off with the release of Shirring Tiered Ribbon JSK in 2004 which was insanely popular, got multiple rereleases (most busty or plus sized people had at least one). It was also longer and not high waisted. I've seen people claiming it goes up to 130cm bust and other people claiming it maxes out at 145cm bust. Always ask the seller to do their own measurements to confirm.

Omg the Meta Bridal OP was/is my dream dress and I just managed to get it a few weeks ago in black!! The texture of the shantung satin is really cool, it has a bit of a pattern to it on its own. Also the skirt portion of it is surprisingly spacious for petticoats
Lovely video would love to see more!!

Lmao at 20:09 because my main wardrobe theme is hearts! 😆 it's okay, i'll be a tacky heart queen forevaaa〰 😘
Don't have a source but from my early days of being a meta fan, "cynical neo-princessism" was kind of like their coined term for their vibe of lolita, in the way moi meme moitie coined "elegant gothic lolita"
The ad at 45:55 has always given me a queer murderous vibe, like they're side-eyeing each other in a flirty yet sinister way, like she's gonna let them in the lodge but not let them out? i always get a good giggle out of that one

Oooooh! Thank you, I’ve always wondered what Neo Cynical Princessism meant haha. And I completely agree about the vaguely queer side-eye lol.

Super well done video, it seems like so much work went into this and I really appreciate it! I look forward to any potential future installments! I’ve been getting really into old school lately and so many of these early meta pieces have stolen my heart😭

I had Thorn Print! The one that I owned isn’t even listed in Lolibrary and has a detachable bustle piece, also fully shirred. I recently sold it to Ally, it’s quite short, I’m not even tall but it was quite scandalous on me 😂
I use to own the cherry print skirt in white, the Crown Print white OP and the pink camo print. There’s a few pieces not recorded for the camo series. One is the apron/apron skirt, and the op which had detachable sleeves that turned into a jsk. The piece I owned was the OP.
The pieces I currently still own are the Rose Cross OP in wine and Window Print OP. Both OPs are fairly plus size friendly but probably top out around 110-115cm. To add to your blurb about Rose Cross though was that it also came as a jsk. I’m not sure what the skirt or Jsk fabric is like, but the OP is weird, it’s flannel with flocking. I was really surprised when it arrived to me in person.
One piece that I use to own that you didn’t mention was this weird hot pink furry leopard print skirt. I only got one coord and one photo before I sold it. I loved it and it was so unique but it was just too weird for me I wasn’t sure how to wear it and do it justice 😂

44:56 sometimes a dress with sleeves was called a sleeved jsk if it was intended to be worn with a blouse underneath. Something a little different are dresses that came with detachable upper sleeves, so you could turn it from a sleeveless dress into a dress with sleeves. Btssb did at least one of those.

I really like the tote bags (Thorn Lesson & Music Note series) - wish there was a pattern for sewing them, like in a GLB or somewhere!

Thank you for these Meta retrospective videos, they're so interesting and I love to see content for Meta on YT ! I'm wondering if you'd know about the Old Rose series ? Lolibrary has a few listings for it that indicate 2010 as the year of release, but I recently acquired a skirt with that print that has the same wide cross lace as some early 2000s pieces ?? I'm very confused about that :')

    • @michemagius
      @michemagius  2 місяці тому +1

Sorry for the late response! Meta has used the same types of lace for long stretches of time so I think that’s the most likely explanation. Old Rose is an original print and from what I can tell all of the main pieces were released in 2010 or later. It’s possible that your skirt was from a lucky pack, those sometimes have lace that’s different from the original release.

@@michemagius Thank you for the useful info ! I'm lucky to have found this skirt, the lace is to die for
